This station’s history led to some interesting consequences. As you may know, the Brighton Line’s local and express tracks merge into each other right after Ocean Pkwy. B trains short-turn at Brighton Beach because it would have to share tracks with the Q and Coney Island doesn’t have the capacity to turn around all trains from both services combined. Ocean Pkwy isn’t used as the terminus because it has no crossovers, thus leaving the express tracks there unused in regular service. The lower level of West 8th St was originally the Brighton Line’s local tracks and the upper level was its express tracks and they both ended at Coney Island on their own platforms. When the Culver Line was extended to Coney Island, it had to take over West 8th St’s lower level and the rest of the line from that point, therefore leaving the Brighton Line with just its express tracks after Ocean Pkwy and the empty trackways still exist as evidence. As a result, what was formerly just the Brighton Line’s express tracks west of Ocean Pkwy became both sets of tracks fused. This is why B trains short-turn at Brighton Beach and why the Brighton Line’s local and express tracks are fused west of Ocean Pkwy.

I need help with something. The video that I am about to share with you is a video I took of an R160 A Train. However, I need help with figuring out whether this R160 is an R160A-2 or an R160B. Although the door motors on this R160 states that it is an R160B, I'm still not certain. Unfortunately, the fleet numbers from this R160 moved way too fast to be perfectly visible on camera, and that bothers me so much! I kindly ask you for your help to tell me whether this is an R160A-2, or an R160B. I believe it is an R160B, yet I still need help!
