  • Today I'm trying to figure out how to get the colors spread 'just right' in a bespoke pen blank. It's proving to be a bit more complicated than you would think!
If you would like to learn more about kit-less (bespoke, custom crafted) pens, check out these sites / Facebook groups:
    International Pen-turners Association (IAP): www.penturners.org/
The Pen Artisan Guild (PAG): / 963060603830389
PAG can also be found at their own website, but at the time of this video going live, there were some issues with the site not coming up. PAG is a group that you must apply to be a member by producing and submitting for review, a kit-less pen.

So happy to see you back I have missed you. How about you just push the bended wire in then pull it out without turning it and see how that works.

Hi Mike just subscribed to your channel, I have watched a couple of videos and like what I see, I enjoy turning pens myself but have not got into casting my own blanks yet. Can you tell me what make of pressure pot you use. Thank you.

What do you use to print your tube labels?

Nice looking blanks. I would have only a few bends in your wire. I would also start with your wire in the tube before you pour your resin. Once poured slowly pull the wire out as you rotate. You should get a more even swirl that way. Great work though.

Excellent video. Shared it with a couple friends. Thank you for the shout outs.
You selling any of those blanks? I might even be interested in the rejects. I can always use practice blanks.
    Regards,
    Bob

I'm in the planning stages now for a website to sell pens and pen blanks. I'll let everyone know when it goes live.

what if instead of alternating the two colors, you got a funnel and poured the two somewhat simultaneously? would that over-mix them?

@@LostRiverWoodShop i think if you play with your stick some more and make it less sharp angles and fewer humps. Also the first one u showed i think.

How about wire in tube then pull out once per blank, less mixing. Blanks all looked nice.

Have you made any progress in the colour mixing/separation issue? I am relatively new to casting, I enjoy it but..... It can be frustrating hoping for a sense of achievement.

There seems to be a steep learning curve for getting 'just the right' pour. I'm still practicing, but getting better. I'll post again once I get it nailed down.

Like you said to many bend why don't take about three of them out and why not try
making like a snake and add a half turn more or maybe a full tur more keep trying you'll get something you like
