I think it isn't a squat, but a quick step back before the turn. This technique seems to assume the Attacker will only use their right hand. I think it would be good to cover what happens when you go the "wrong way". This also needs a finishing/control move so that the Attacker isn't able to resume the attack later.

Does this work from a non static position, ie if she is being actively dragged about?
Yes, she has to step backward quickly and apply the technique.
