I had one in High School. Dad had a Sedan that needed parts. Found a running ragtop for $250.00 in 1973 !! Ran Great. Straight Body. Intact Interior. Roof in good Shape. Don't miss the Bumper Jack !!
me too, same issue with the 61 and 62 Chrysler and DeSoto...not much love at all for the DeSoto, to me it borrowed a lot from the Lincoln and Continental.
I remember when I was very young like maybe 3 or 4 standing in front of one of these at about eye level with the headlamps and along with the bullet bumper guards it was scary looking to me. But, I have no issues with them now.
@@RedBud315 I remember hearing a story about a guy who had to pass a 61 Chrysler New Yorker on the way back from school everyday (when he was in elementary school or so) and he'd walk on the other side of the street when he passed it because it scared him so much. Interesting how the canted headlights have that effect on people!
My grandmother had one, a 4 door sedan in what was called "Burnished Gold" (GORGEOUS COLOR) and I was NUTS about it as a 4/5 year old. I STILL AM at 61! That model year was an IMPECCABLE exercise in restraint and beauty compared to the raging, bloated and ridiculous sideshow that was Cadillac of the same year. I've been working as an Interior Designer for years and I know originality, great geometry, gorgeous lines, shapes and fantastic juxtaposition when I see them. The '59 was the absolute best of that span from 58 to 60.
I never knew his name but he played the auctioneer in North by Northwest. My favorite movie. Which also features this car as Eve Kendall makes her escape from the Mt. Rushmore visitors center

so sorry on the wait! Trust me, it will be worth the wait.....but check out the Lincoln Commercial on Friday night, with Julia Meade...this one is amazing and i couldn't hold off on uploading it and sharing it.......it's funny in a cultural way.
My old man had a Mercury @1:37 with the Breezeway window, I would kneel on the back seat and look out behind us. I got my little fingers jammed in there, but still remember rolling my old Hot Wheels down that rear deck as we were driving along..
@@johneddy908 I feel like Ford should've given Mercury the Retractable Roofs, and the Lincoln Capri. If they had better direction they wouldn't have had to blow all that money on Edsel.
I never thought there was enough differentiation made between the Continental and the standard Lincoln for 1959. I can hardly tell them apart. It's too bad Lincoln got cold feet with the Mark ll. They should have borrowed a little from it for these Continentals. They finally did in 1961.
In 1969, the Continental Mark III was introduced. This version was a luxury coupe that was inspired by the Mark II and was the first of a series that continued for 29 years.
I hope y'all will reply to this remember the CBS live action Saturday morning series Shazam!??????...Les Tremayne was on the show he played Billy Batson's mentor who was named Mentor
I do remember it, watched it every Saturday morning for 2 years.....I remember being freaked out when the Shazam character had a new Actor portraying the part, I like the first guy better.....and this is actually when I became aware of Les Tramayne.
I think it depends on the part of the country you're in......Ford and Chevy still sell a lot of cars......The Chevy Malibu is extremely popular. I don't even know where there is a Subaru dealer here locally???

Maybe I'll finally be able to afford to buy a used gas powered car when they are outlawed in California. All I have to do is fly here and buy one for pennies on the dollar. In 13 years, that'll only be $150k - $200K for a 20 year old car at the rate we are going now. Meanwhile .... They neèd to manufacture frightening looking cars again. Dont feel weird. I'm frightened of early 1900s plumbing fixtures.
I was a child frightened by our landlord's 59 Buick!
The roll-down rear window was a distinctive Continental feature, no other car had it then, no car has had it since.
er...the Mercury Breezeway Sedans of the 1960's way out sold the Lincoln in numbers with this style rear window.
This is great and I've always liked Les Tremayne. Thank you for uploading and sharing!!
I have a ‘60 Mark V - they are beautiful - and massive.
My favorite of the three.
