I don't find the lyrics dirty, they're just very raw and a contemporary way of expressing things that many poets have written about for centuries.
The song is a very good representation of falling for a girl who deserves better than the manner to which she allows herself to be subjected.
From an evolutionary perspective, all men "hunt" for potential mates, but some so-called men use very questionable and malicious means to achieve that goal.

Hell, actually, in retrospect, Ernest Hemingway was a brilliant poet and writer and even he had a very contemporary, "potty-mouth" style in his literature.
I thought it was more just telling a story of how guys always try to get into girls pants and how they fall for it but the narrator wonder's why they even listen at all.

as someone who listens to and writes rap music it’s more often that a rapper will write about braggadocios topics or social issues.
The closest rappers Ik that come close to this are XXXTENTESION, $uicideboy$ (especially) and Immortal Technique and none of these rappers are shit nor are over rated.
Adding to this rap is more emotionally restricted then Rock is in general.
I don’t even know how someone would be able to convert *this* into rap and have the song keep it’s over all mood.
I think I figured it out, the beginning is in 5/4, until they start the "Hunting is in our blood." when they say that it changes between 5/4 and 6/4, you can count it. 1 2 3 4 5 1 2 3 4 5 6. The same thing in Eight-Ball, Coroner's Pocket, the beginning can be counted in 11 counts, or 5 and 6.
It goes 5/4 6/4 5/4 6/4 then 5/4 5/4 5/4 5/4 then when the hunting is in our blood part comes it goes back to alternating.
The rest of the song save for the break is 6/4 at different bpm’s.
The outro is 5/4 and nothing else.

I don't think it's possible to make a song I'd wanna listen to over and over that isn't this. The sound of it is just beyond catchy and the lyrics themselves tell a story you wanna hear. Glad to see Hail the Sun has new stuff coming out too, they're amazingly talented.
God i miss listening to this album same with wake. The two albums helped me through some rough times growing up.

I'm very into Mental Knife right now, but the last part of this song is brilliant (3:15 to the end).
For some reason this ending has also always stuck with me, but it can't peak the "The 'Fun' In Dysfunction" ending for me
The beginning sounds like it's in 7/8 (we're talking the first two measures), then it transitions into 6/8, then a bridge in 4/4, then back to 6/8, then the "Now he's got her" part is in 4/4. And I can't be assed to transcribe the rest.
Took the MAX to Hawthorne theater to see these guys when this came out. Bought a CD and had a great time. Every album gets better, no pressure 😎

@@everybodysfavoritenobody for starters this isn't meant to be a positive representation. The imagery is very clear from the title testostyrannosaurus (testosterone+T-Rex). It likens this type of male courtship to predation, it being a combination of using alcohol and deception as a way to trick women into sleeping with him even though he's an awful person. The very end of the song is a repudiation of it (he's so wrong to be deceitful). How anyone could hear this and think it's some kind of endorsement is beyond me, but then again some people see fight club and American psycho and think theyre trying to create some sort of image of masculinity for men to aspire to, so... 🤷

It's really weird to listen back to this band's older stuff, because while their technical accomplishments have only blossomed, the lyrics are like... weird. Like I can't see a non-incelly way to read these lyrics which are blatantly about pickup artistry. That would be fine if there was some layer of metaphor that went beyond 'men want to fuck women like hunters wanted to hunt animals', but then it also takes the PoV of like... judging the girls who let this happen, as though it's their fault? I want really badly to draw some other meaning or conclusion from these lyrics but they just seem creepy to me.
