I agree, I do not care who wins that game, I don't even know who the players are. I just stumbled upon the highlights, but there is no way, no way that was a red card + penalty. So stupid.

If you block the ball from entering the goal with your arm or hand, and you’re the last defender, it is a penalty whether the arm was in a natural position or not

And yet the replay in these highlights is terrible. Slow it down and you can see the ball goes downward after first contact and then out to the side of goal
Same. Fortunately we got the 4th goal so that goal wasn't technically decisive. Can't ignore the impact of being a man down though.

@corytoews5222 the tides turned when the poor call was made. There likely wouldnt have been a third or fourth goal or ANY goal for that matter if the red wasn't shown. Portland got extremely lucky with this one. San Jose got massively screwed.
The last call on the goalie was worst. The goalie was playing the ball and got football tackled by the timbers player. That was a foul on Portland 100% and cost san jose the game.

The red card for Bruno Wilson changed completely the game and it is a major mistake by the ref and the VAR team!

Go Timbers!!!!! 🌲🌲🌲 great game but we need to do a little better, defense needs to improve and also back line not give away balls so lazily. We got this though, we'll be solid this year.
Portland Timbers fan, just wanted to say that the red card was BS. Penalty kick sure okay it hit his hand, red card definitely not (no reaction time to move the hand anywhere else, and if his hand had not been there, his body was directly behind it and it would have hit his torso). Second pk though, I think that is more legit.
I'm not someone who follows a team but rather the players. I have been following Rodriguez since Cruz Azul and I'm glad he came to MLS because mexican football is so mediocre, and even though he's not a top tier player I think he has more to offer and I'm so glad he scored twice in this match.

Just from the highlights the commentating is giving me second hand embarrassment
I think the MLS and I have a very different definition of "wild comeback" . This game was an embarrassing comeback if anything. Timbers were in shambles and needed a horrendous penalty call and red card to put them up a man and crawl a goal back to set them up for a comeback. And even then they needed another penalty to go ahead. San Jose was done dirty the Timbers are better than this but were rewarded for poor play and the officiating was a masterclass in buffoonery.

@@maxvigildombeck5999 so while his hand is natural apart of his side, if you watch closely, he pulls his arm up which helps cause the contact, coaches tend to tell us to keep arms down by your side to avoid this 50/50 but he raised his arm so his fist was higher and not in a natural position 😅

Can we boycott MLS Season Pass? It's just awful. Commentators all seemingly told what to say and they clearly aren't familiar with the teams they're covering. Gf bought me a subscription last year. I deliberated for the longest time over getting it this year. At this point I'm pretty sure I'm not going to renew it for next year.
At some point all that talent in Portland is going to come together. Maybe that was tonight.

San Jose’s first goal 10000% offsides, clear cut, no doubt about it. That was the start of the awful calls, the red car for San Jose cemented it. This game branched off into a wild direction after that awful decision to not check the first goal

Where is a defender supposed to put his arms when sprinting back to defend a last ditch effort that wouldn’t result in a red card, suspension, AND pk? Maybe not even try defending and the final score is 2-1? He wasn’t trying to injure another player. It looked like he was trying to move his arm out of the way from being in a natural position. Did VAR even look at it? The ref didn’t.
A defender blocking a shot on the goal line better have his hands glued to his body or he risks exactly this call. Good defenders do it all the time. Stop acting like it’s impossible.
That said, I would have gone yellow rather than red on the DOGSO, reserving red for when a defender reaches for the ball to block it.

While I absolutely agree the first pen is a bit harsh, I think you can’t not give it. If you really slow it down and zoom in while his hand is close to his body he’s still moving it and it absolutely affects the flight of the ball. Had it hit his body instead there is no telling where the ball would have gone.

A pk AND a red is too harsh. Have the team at the benefit of it pick one or the other. Red cards completely change the complexity of the game and often make it very predictable.
What a stolen game, if you score a penalty, the most you can do is get a yellow card but these referees don't know that.

*You never see red cards/handball like this being called in the Premier league, Bundesliga, la liga, etc. The MLS has now turned into a big money making league for officials and MLS.
