His dad is a 1st generation immigrant from Nigeria. Kevin went to Yale as a pre-med student, but also is a classically trained cellist. All of them are amazing, but this video is definitely a Mitch-slap moment.

When they first started they made UA-cam videos on a couch. This was a throw Back to those days. They still make the occasional couch video. If you want something fun try Come Along. Oh I love that I found this within 4 hours of you guys uploading. The couch is symbolic because they basically started on UA-cam on a couch (after they won the sing off, a cappella TV competition and then won a recording contract, but their label dropped them quickly-bug mistake- they then went viral and got a better contract). You should check out their cover of Can’t hold us by Maclamore and Ryan Lewis, then check out Sing, which is an original, then check out their cover of Arianna Grande and Ziggy, problem. These guys are just flippin amazing alien unicorns! It took them 5 years to feel ready to do this song and to do it the justice that it deserves. They are all massive Queen fans. Brian May, lead guitarist from Queen, heard this song when it came out and posted a link to his socials with the one word comment 'Enjoy!' I feel like that is giving Queen's Seal of Approval right there! They also inserted a lot of references and easter eggs into this video in tribute to the original video - which by the way, if you haven't seen - you should probably check it out! Queen couldn't perform this song live because of all the layering they did in post! And not only can Pentatonix do this Live, but the Mitch Grassi Guitar has no need for a Megaphone. Mitch just saw it lying around the set and decided to use it to draw attention to who was doing the guitar solo part - the megaphone was not on, Mitch can do this live! The couch is in reference to their beginning videos where they recorded themselves on various of theirs couches to post onto UA-cam after they were dropped by Sony because they didn't think that Acapella would be popular enough to sell records. It is also a tip of the hat to Wayne's World movie scene with the car and head banging to this song which brought in a whole new generation to Queen's music! The part where Mitch is laying on the couch is in reference to Freddie's death and the members walking alongside are his coffin's Pallbearers. A lot of the visuals in here are in tribute to the original video's trippy graphics; like when they all line up and do the 'oh, oh, oh's' one after the other, and also when they line up behind Kirstie standing on the couch only to fan out behind her with their vocal parts. The shot of the sky is in tribute to Dr. Brian May who is Queen's lead guitarist and also an astrophysicist! Each shooting star represents a member of Queen. When they all collapse onto the couch with the shot from above is a homage to the cover art of Queen's record 'Sheer Heart Attack' Also I am pretty sure, Mitch is a reincarnation of Freddie Mercury - one...he can grow the Freddie Stash and looks so much like Freddie that it is kinda creepy - two...he can sing just as high if not higher than Freddie could - and three...Freddie died 8 months before Mitch was born!

👋😀PENTATONIX is formed by childhood friends "The Trio" from Arlington TX (Scott, Kirstie and Mitch) they grew up doing musical theater and choir. In High School they were known as The Trio. When Scott and Kirstie graduated hs (mitch was a year behind) Scott moved to So. California to attend USC snd joined the famous SoCal VoCals. There he met Ben Bram (Now long time PTX arranger) Ben was a scout and arranger for the then televised ACAPELLA singing competition "The Sing Off" he recognized Scott from a youtube video were The Trio performed their own arrangement of Telephone by Lady Gaga for their hs choir concert. Ben told Scott he should contact his hs friends and audition for the show. Ben also advised Scott to get a bass and beatboxer to make them sound fuller. Scott was introduced to Avi (Ah-vee) who was a music/opera major and was an AMAZING bass singer. Avi had been shown the Trio video months before and he thought "the kids" were great and YES he would love to sing with them. (Avi is only about 2 years older than the Trio. They were looking for a beatboxer but none caught their interest. Ben was shown a video of Kevin beatboxing and playing the cello at the same time (cello-boxing) At the time Kevin was a med student at YALE. It was hard to get a hold if him because he was on his pre-med finals. Scott persisted and persuaded him to audition. Scott and Ben pitched into fly Kevin to California. The 5 members finally met together as a group THE DAY BEFORE the audition. On the spot they arranged the audition song and they all clicked as a group. Scott came up with the name PENTATONIX from the word pentatonic (5 melody music scale) they competed and won season 3 of The Sing Off in 2011. They have gone on to be THE GREATEST and MOST SUCCESSFUL ACapella group of our time 3 Grammy/Multi platinum. Avi was the original bass until he left late 2017 (on good terms) and was replaced by Matt as the new bass.

There is a Behind the Scenes video of how they made the video. The white line in front of the couch was a road. They filmed it Midnight to 6am. Couch on wheels and almost tipped over. Mitch has shorter than average vocal cords that help him sing those high notes. Scott (Blonde) and Mitch met when they were 10 years old and Mitch met Kirstin around age 8. They were Community Arts Theater kids and their parents are friends also. They were blending their voices through puberty and always singing instead of talking. They order coffee by song. Kevin (Beatboxer) is Extremely talented as Scott found Kevin playing the Cello while Beatboxing. It took work to convince Kevin to join the band as he had graduated from Yale University and was headed for pre-med when Scott snatched him up 10.5 years ago. Avi is classically trained and has blown out speakers on tour. Avi left in 2017 and then Matt joined the group. He does well in "Sound of Silence" but for his full range try his "Grintch" Chistmas song. You mentioned Christmas songs, they have 7 Christmas Albums and a couple albums all original songs and a mix of everything. Evolution of Michael Jackson and all Evolution of ... songs are one take. They do about 4 timed and pick the best. Beyonce posted PTX's version of her medley on her Social Media account about 4 hours after it was released.

Supporters are called Pentaholics, they have so many amazing songs: amazing grace, the sound of silence, mary did you know, the prayer, daft punk medley (they got a grammy for it) it was recorded in mitchs closet with a ring light lol, the group came up in a competition called sing off 10+ years ago. I'm subscribing in hopes of more Pentatonix, though you need to know that their label is really aggressive about blocking. Maybe that's why you had to cut the Hallelujah video? Many reactors have solved it by altering the video (they don't seem to block audio).
Just wait. You guys are in for an amazing journey. PTX has done every genre of music. Electro, country, rock, hip-hop, rap (your favorite, his name is Mitch, he raps and so does the tall blonde, his name is Scott) just a quick tip though, one, headphones are a must (at least for your second listen) and two, there has been one member change in all of their years as a band. We lost Avi (the Jesus in a beanie guy from hallelujah) and he was replaced by Matt. They are both amazing bassists. They are different but they are both definitely better than meer mortals 😂 you may think Mitch or Kirstie are different people but it's still then they just change their appearances constantly.

Pentatonix is always awesome. I humbly suggest you react to Angelina Jordan who won Norway's Got Talent in 2014 at age 8 covering Billie Holiday. Now at 16 she is the highest priority new artist for Republic Records but her family doesn't want her promoted yet. Her genius arrangement of Bohemian Rhapsody is her most popular performance when she was 13 on America's Got Talent. Folks have given you some great suggestions below! I'd go for Imagine, but Evolution of Michael Jackson is great. Try to get the Popspring Concert 2016 version, so you can see them do it live. Mitch (high tenor) and Kirstin (mezzo-soprano), along with Scott (blond baritone) have been friends at least since high school (and on and off, they have known each other since children's theater days). They share the money equally as far as I know, and they all have side projects. 90s Dance Medley is also tremendous fun, a total bop that will have you dancing there on the couch. The 5 members finally met together as a group THE DAY BEFORE the audition. On the spot they arranged the audition song and they all clicked as a group. Scott came up with the name PENTATONIX from the word pentatonic (5 melody music scale) they competed and won season 3 of The Sing Off in 2011. They have gone on to be THE GREATEST and MOST SUCCESSFUL ACapella group of our time 3 Grammy/Multi platinum.
Avi was the original bass until he left late 2017 (on good terms) and was replaced by Matt as the new bass.

There is a Behind the Scenes video of how they made the video. The white line in front of the couch was a road. They filmed it Midnight to 6am. Couch on wheels and almost tipped over.
Mitch has shorter than average vocal cords that help him sing those high notes. Scott (Blonde) and Mitch met when they were 10 years old and Mitch met Kirstin around age 8. They were Community Arts Theater kids and their parents are friends also. They were blending their voices through puberty and always singing instead of talking. They order coffee by song.
Kevin (Beatboxer) is Extremely talented as Scott found Kevin playing the Cello while Beatboxing. It took work to convince Kevin to join the band as he had graduated from Yale University and was headed for pre-med when Scott snatched him up 10.5 years ago. Avi is classically trained and has blown out speakers on tour. Avi left in 2017 and then Matt joined the group. He does well in "Sound of Silence" but for his full range try his "Grintch" Chistmas song. You mentioned Christmas songs, they have 7 Christmas Albums and a couple albums all original songs and a mix of everything.
Evolution of Michael Jackson and all Evolution of ... songs are one take. They do about 4 timed and pick the best. Beyonce posted PTX's version of her medley on her Social Media account about 4 hours after it was released.

Glad you noticed. Kirstie jumps onto the sofa IN HEELS, then helps Mitch up. The blocking for this whole thing is so perfect, and amazingly nobody broke an ankle getting on and off of the moving couch.

Diving into the pentatonix is just massive! Supporters are called Pentaholics, they have so many amazing songs: amazing grace, the sound of silence, mary did you know, the prayer, daft punk medley (they got a grammy for it) it was recorded in mitchs closet with a ring light lol, the group came up in a competition called sing off 10+ years ago. They won of course. But all performances are available on UA-cam, try to react to them with headphones anytime you can. And you can see them live in some videos and you see they really are that amazing

Before you ask, Kevin isn't onstage in the beginning because he just did a performance on his cello "Beyoncé" and is putting her away. You see Mitch move over so Kevin can get back onstage to the right of Scott.
Fun fact - the super low note Avi hits in the beginning blew his speaker out, which is why there's distortion and you can't really hear him after that.
And Mitch goes ridiculously off the chain 😂😂😂

They made a deliberate choice not to try and imitate Freddy, feeling that would be disrespectful, cause Freddy us Freddy and no one can ever replace him. And every year Brian May posts this on his Facebook page, with "enjoy!" as a tag.
And yeah, Mitch is a very rare unicorn (he has a 6 octave range ffs!), and that megaphone is just a prop. He performs this live, using nothing but his microphone.

I'm subscribing in hopes of more Pentatonix, though you need to know that their label is really aggressive about blocking. Maybe that's why you had to cut the Hallelujah video? Many reactors have solved it by altering the video (they don't seem to block audio).

Just wait. You guys are in for an amazing journey. PTX has done every genre of music. Electro, country, rock, hip-hop, rap (your favorite, his name is Mitch, he raps and so does the tall blonde, his name is Scott) just a quick tip though, one, headphones are a must (at least for your second listen) and two, there has been one member change in all of their years as a band. We lost Avi (the Jesus in a beanie guy from hallelujah) and he was replaced by Matt. They are both amazing bassists. They are different but they are both definitely better than meer mortals 😂 you may think Mitch or Kirstie are different people but it's still then they just change their appearances constantly.

Pentatonix is always awesome. I humbly suggest you react to Angelina Jordan who won Norway's Got Talent in 2014 at age 8 covering Billie Holiday. Now at 16 she is the highest priority new artist for Republic Records but her family doesn't want her promoted yet. Her genius arrangement of Bohemian Rhapsody is her most popular performance when she was 13 on America's Got Talent. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they posted a link to it on their Twitter.

Folks have given you some great suggestions below! I'd go for Imagine, but Evolution of Michael Jackson is great. Try to get the Popspring Concert 2016 version, so you can see them do it live. Mitch (high tenor) and Kirstin (mezzo-soprano), along with Scott (blond baritone) have been friends at least since high school (and on and off, they have known each other since children's theater days). They share the money equally as far as I know, and they all have side projects. 90s Dance Medley is also tremendous fun, a total bop that will have you dancing there on the couch.
