    Every trick should have instant or open reset... cant keep disappearing into a cupboard to reload(!) Also Doc Eason's Bar Magic Trilogy is absolute worker gold

    Good advice. One thing I would recommend is to have tricks for events. There is always someone celebrating a birthday. I also have something for anniversaries, a new job, and in the spring a trick for graduation.

    I only worked restaurants for a few decades. Remember, You are the restaurants in Goodwil ambassador. If there’s a problem at the table you approach you’re going to find somebody to help them.
    Imo, Sunday bunch It is when you are most needed. The brunch menu so we may the words of week and then it takes longer to get out the workers having a magician feel good time when the kitchen is having a problem is solid gold. And also a good selling point.

    I know I'm super late!!!!!
    I just came across this video, and I am out there hustling to get a restaurant gig right now!!!
    Thank you for the content, and words of encouragement.
    As corny as it sounds, it's so true... you really have to believe in yourself.
    To everyone else out there trying to get booked... it's possible. Keep reaching out, keep practicing, make rejection your vitamin. Getting booked feels like the only "real" magic.

    Very cogent advice. Especially from someone who’s never worked tables. All your recommendations for research were spot on. The Doc Eason videos are a must. Even though he has a lot more room to work with .

    Michael Finney got started by doing tricks at a restaurant in the waiting area for customers. He didn’t even ask he just did it. Then later customers told the waitress Hey that’s a great magician you got in the waiting area. Wait staff had no idea what they we’re talking about 🤣. Seems like an easy natural way to get the point across of your value in a restaurant when they are super busy.

    I really regret not starting magic earlier. I think it's too late for me. I am too old. If only I knew when I was younger. I have so many obligations to deal with today. I realize the clock is really ticking on me.

    • @magicorthodoxy
      @magicorthodoxy  Рік тому +1

      wow - it's never too late. Lots of simple things you can get that are self working

      @@magicorthodoxy well, I missed out on many things in life other than magic that I am too old for now. So frustrating. I am 29 now, almost 30. A bit hard trying to get everything I want in the time I have. Self-working tricks are one thing but it’s just hard to set time to practice good magic and find a chance to eventually perform as obligations and the clock really get on me.

      @@westonding8953 29!?! Come on. I'm 58. You are young. Stop talking yourself out of stuff, talk yourself into things. May not be easy, and won't be automatic, but do it.

    I dress like the busboys ( Deli shirt houndstooth pants apron & bus tub). I walk up to a table and say "I'm a busboy here but I'm also a struggling magician can I show you something real quick?"... Fork bend, quarter bend (souvenir) an "original dessert that no one's ever heard of" Billet Peek. And anything by Scotty York. Sugar packet, salt shaker, napkin tricks.lol that definitely boosts up tips if poolled at the end of the night.

    Hi David, very informative video as always. I’ve never been to a restaurant that has had a magician, actually never been to a wedding that has had a magician. But would love to find a restaurant near me and check it out.

    Urgh, no, thank you... Thanks for the video! Now I definitely know I don't want to work at a restaurant. I've never seen a magician at a restaurant in Toronto, but my friends went to a Sushi place, and a waiter showed them some magic. He was pretty good too.
    Speaking of weddings, when do you approach a table? I assume weddings and banquets are not like restaurants, and there isn't much waiting for the food to come... I'm guessing mix and mingle time is when gloves are off, and you just approach everyone..

    • @magicorthodoxy
      @magicorthodoxy  Рік тому +1

      usually AFTER the food - most people are just sitting around - I find a lot of people don't dance - and they're just waiting for it to all be over.

    This seems really difficult. You not only have to be a good magician, but you have to be a really good salesman and you have to sell yourself every single time you want to perform, because you may be interrupting conversations or vibes from people.

      very true - but performing in the real world - is where you learn to get better

    i am looking to do magic for my inlaws in Argentina but i dont speak Spanish well. im also looking to do magic in a school of kids who are deaf. I want to do routines which do not require a translator. Tricks which have a slow buildup with an explosive visual ending leaving mouths open. Could you do a top 5 or more list in this area?

    Simple tips 👍🏽
    Listen to your workmates/Boss
    Communicate a lot, ask questions about timings of the service. So you can gauge when to finish a trick/ or a set of effects.
    Always be ready to show a trick to the guests when they ask you.
    Quick, fast and surprising effects or also a great routine ranging around 10-15minutes. (Usual waiting time)
    Different props or gimmicks and even stage magic props would be nice to utilize as well.
    Have a structure for your gig.
    Have at least 3 sets of effects/tricks which you can rotate for different tables.
    Be adaptive with the behavior of the table and the surrounding.
    Have business cards ready to be given when asked. Very important ✅ this can give you more networks, and even open up new gigs like weddings, birthdays ,or just normal parties.
    I work in Ibiza all year round, i work in restaurants, hotels, beach clubs, bars. I do shows at birthday parties, villa parties, corporate events and wedding also. If you have questions, feel free to reply or comment here.
    Have a great day everyone 💯🪄✨

    I love your content. Another great video. Only point a disagree on is children’s magic. Makes me shudder and from giggs I’ve done the adults actually prefer the show for them. Maybe that’s just us in the UK lol.
