I'm going to cut to the chase on derringers. The types of handguns. They came out in the late 1600s I think. They are used as duelling pistols once and in the old West gamblers used derringers during card games as back up guns for extra protection, also prostitutes used them for protection as well as knives or daggers. They conceal derringers in certain places on their persons, such as bras, stockings and undergarments. The derringers are close quarters type of pistols and also they are by far the most concealable handgun there is, depending on the model and size.
Study police shooting stats most shooting occur at LESS then 12 feet . on average it will be over in 2.8 seconds . and you will only get off 2.5 rounds . a Davis style Darringer is a great back-up weapon . and as a concealed carry it offers a great surprise factor .
Had a couple of these, they do work etc, but I'd recommend getting the bond arms roughneck(mines be here next week) or NAA pug 22mag which is the next one on my list!! 5 shots of 22mag will do the job!! You gotta realize it's not the size of the bullet it's the damage it causes to organs... meaning always aim center mass you hit somebody in the chest they give either fall or try to get away from there fast to get help!!!
I’ve got a small 9mm and even it feels big in a confined space (I ride the train a lot in a large metropolitan area). The size of this pistol is definitely a plus in that environment. Much easier to deploy.
I just got one in 9mm. The trigger pull was horrendously heavy. I oiled the heck out of it with Militech and the trigger is much better. You want to use as mild a 9mm as you can find for this gun. Winchester white box is tolerable.
MY FIRST PISTOL !!! "Twas a Cobra .38 spcl derringer. Good. Not exactly a Swiss time piece but, hey it functioned & still does. I had to add some choppings of some Talon-grip-tape. The death grip on that beauty was phenominal until I put a stripe of that tape at the back of the handle/grip and also a bit on the trigger. It helps plenty !! I like the little squirt gun so much that I want to get the variety of calibers of them. Have fun with yours !!
I have this for my everyday carry. This caliber is my preference for defense as far as stopping power goes. I use to carry Ruger Sp 101 everywhere and for home defense but it became such a hassle its walking around with a tank basically, then switched to derringer for it's easy concealment, and I like its light and not a burden when I keep It on me. I still keep a lighter Ruger for home defense but not ccw, I use the derringer.
I love the Cobra, but for summer edc ccw, I go with the Glock 43. Hard to beat 7+1 in that small of a package. But yea, I dig that Derringer for pocket carry.
Love your videos Slappy Jay. I live in the Seattle suburbs so I might stop by and tell my friends about you too. Consider me a Slippy Jim fan/customer for life!
It has a rotating sear that moves back and forth from top to bottom per trigger pull, so it fires one barrel at a time. Pretty cool mechanism considering it’s over 100 years old :)
Just picked one of these up at a gun show and while I did look at some reviews before purchasing I wanted more info. To everyone saying the intro is too long, yes I agree ( I don't care about the skiing etc.) but everybody on UA-cam does this shit. Yes, it bores the shit out of me but it is what it is. Skipping all the BS, good review and it does help. Also, everyone, be aware, you can't compare a 2 shot derringer to a freakin Glock 43. Derringers are a niche as a BUG and because of their design have inherent limitations. They're not meant to compete with 10 round semi automatics. I'll take mine to the range and see what how it works out. Frankly I'm impressed that a derringer comes in 9mm or .38 specl and I'm glad that it came at a reasonable price. With the simplistic design I can't see how jamming should be an issue but we'll see. So, GTV6 guy, do a better job getting to the point and to everyone else, complain to all the other long winded You Tubers as well.
My first gun I brought in my early 20s was a Davis 22lr derringer. I owned it for over 35 years and it always fired. So compact and very easy to conceal. Feels very comfortable inside my boots, with a small holster.
I advise not to, if you have other, even an old beater heater Davis .380 or .25. But, it's better than a baseball bat or nothing at all. Just worry if someone gets the draw on you and you are caught reaching..... You have to fumble with a push-through cross-bar safety, then pull the hammer, then hopefully not shoot yourself as you intend to shoot at any enemy. It works, and it feels almost too "safe". A pack gun, for seeing on-coming trouble? Very much so, and usable. But not for battle weapon. Train to use it for 'producing' it, shooting it, and seeking cover -as a get outta Dodge scenario. If laying around and no children, I keep it off safety, hammer down, so all I have to do is pull the hammer and go to task. Lastly, because of bumping it, I do not trust the safety not pushing through and then for anything striking the hammer like a sharp drop to the ground. But I love mine very much! Mine is the black .38, 9 mm optional.
@04:15 Always keep the (fully assembled) firearm pointed in a safe direction. That includes when you think it's empty or full. That includes not pointing it toward your own hand when handling it. Firearm safety is for everyone, not just the rest of us.
I have mountains of 9mm ammo and a variety of pistols in 9mm. This is not the best option for high capacity, obviously, but when it's 90+ degrees out and you still want to conceal, it's just right.
Purpose and I want I said the same thing about not being in a gunfight and only needing one shot. I was almost dead wrong on both after putting 10 rounds of 9 m m in his chest he still shot at me
Ok ultra concealable light weight 5 shots .22 magnum I did look at the Cobras they are decent I like having 5 shots over two with more options of concealing. I got the over molded grip with the clip on it I can do IWB -OOB -Hiking boot or sneakers grant it it might not range of the 9 mm I got 3 more shots. The Cobra does look sharp though..

Those guns get scratched up sitting in the box lol don't worry about the finish, they're made with cheap pot metal, so wouldn't recommend shooting it to much
As one of the 90% who are right handed, I really dislike the layout of the safety. Your thumb can easily activate the safety but you're SOL if to need to deactivated it.
I suppose that there's a use case for these but for the same money 💵 or less , you can get, from the same company , the FS380 or the CA380 and get 7 & 5 rounds respectively. If you go to $200 , there's the Patriot 380 offering 10 rounds , all before reloading. Which brings up a obvious question. What if , while carrying this derringer , you find yourself in a situation where you need more than two shots NOW ?
cole5785 funny you mention that. My wife recently gained both her US citizenship and got her concealed carry permit. We got her a lcp for carry. Like it so much I might need one for myself

If you check out reviews for Cobra, you'll see that they often hold on to guns that need repair for months on end. This isn't a cool range toy, it's just a $120 headache. +nr3rful Yeah, no kidding. Who cares about your shorts or what you and the wife did instead of going to the range. Plus you are talking like nobody is going to read the title of the video. Painful...
My beretta Nano is lighter and holds 7 or 9 rounds, depending which magazine I use, and with the 6 round mag it's only a tiny bit larger than the Cobra Derringer 9mm. I own both and the derringer is a decent snake gun when loaded with CCI shotshells but the cocking and hard as hell trigger make it a terrible choice for self defense, IMO.

only two shots of anything is cutting it too close for my liking. a Seecamp is just as small, and a Kel-tec is lighter. each offer more shots that are much quicker to get on target, and one is of better quality than the cobra.
you are right. i was curious at the time about this firearm to see if it could possibly be any good. even a little. it was extremely finicky with ammo and the ammo it did actually fire reliably was steel case stuff, which would need to be pulled from the chamber with pliers. i still have it, but it sits on my desk at home and is used as a paperweight.

only two shots of anything is cutting it too close for my liking. a Seecamp is just as small, and a Kel-tec is lighter. each offer more shots that are much quicker to get on target, and one is of better quality than the cobra.
I totally agree. I think of it as more of a back up to a backup
Keep it simple bro.
get to the point, please. People who watch gun videos are mean, impatient guys.....
Why just why? So many better options.
you are right. i was curious at the time about this firearm to see if it could possibly be any good. even a little. it was extremely finicky with ammo and the ammo it did actually fire reliably was steel case stuff, which would need to be pulled from the chamber with pliers. i still have it, but it sits on my desk at home and is used as a paperweight.

Just get a Kahr CM9 or Sig P365
