Well done, things will get easier over time. I am sure you will all fit in fine to France and your local area. I moved over here from England 40 years ago and did take a bit of time to feel at home, but really happy I made the move. You have got a great project in the making and the best thing.....you've all got each other :)

The signing ceremony is like a large complicated wedding ceremony we felt. We also couldn't get in when we got to our home. Mon amour had to take apart a lock before we could get in. Very exciting. I hope you all manage to adapt to being a foreigner.

I, too, am a former Californian who moved to Paris about 4 years ago. I recognized your hotel as that is the street I live on, rue de L’Odeon, a great choice. I can understand your feelings of anticipation, excitement, worry, etc as that is so normal. Don’t worry about “fitting” in, as the French people are very warm and welcoming. Bonne chance and you will love it!

I will be here excitedly waiting for your every upload. Yay!!!!

You will not be foreigners forever. You are in Europe and they are very accustomed to people coming from other countries and settling there. That is an American fear that you will lose. Don’t worry. You’re going to be great. France is fabulous! 🥰🇨🇦

Glad you got that over and done with. Looking forward to the series. BUT PLEASE do not put music over your voices. Your phone or camera does not pick up your voices very well. The music makes it impossible for me with hearing difficulties to understand what you are saying. I cannot use the subtitles very well either as I am partially sighted. I hope it wil improve in time. regards & good luck from the UK

Bonne chance. Bon continuation! You have made a bold move. The responsibility is enormous. My recommendation is to learn French as quickly as possible. I moved to France nine years ago and opened a chambres d’hôtes 99% of my visitors were French so my conversational French happened pretty quickly. I would love to visit when you are open to the public visiting. The chateau is very beautiful and once you shake off the nerves you will enjoy you new lifestyle more and more. I live in the Loire vallée. Bravo to you all.

Lovely property but don’t understand the constant indignation about lack of towels, sheets, glasses, plates etc. When you buy a house in the US you would not expect the seller to leave those with the house so why would it be any different in France? I thought you were fortunate there were beds left behind.

Getting settled in your magnificent chateau, getting use to the surroundings, and as time goes by learning the lingo (French language). As everything else take baby steps. It is not the norm to leave anything behind when you sell a house. Did you leave your things behind when you sold your house? In Italy they take the kitchen, even the cabinets. 😉 The Mayor is very important to make him feel very welcome or ……. Permits can come very very slow.

Thank you for a wonderful film of your journey from USA to France and your new home. Filming was excellent. You are speaking much slower now as sometimes an American accent is difficult to understand.
Seems sad the past Owner didn’t arrange for some bedding after paying can only imagine a large sum.
France is a great country, I am English, but French people can be hard to get to know but once they know you are very helpful etc.
I wish you all the luck very different to San Diego which I loved visiting some years ago. Good luck 🤞

When you buy a furnished house it doesn't include sheets, pillows, and towels. Wouldn't these items be considered too personal to leave behind? (sort of like leaving a hair brush). I can see leaving drapery, though, because it's part of the window dressing.

Congrats! Your description of forever feeling like a foreigner will diminish as time passes,as you get comfortable with the town,& shops. However taking French language lessons so you comprehend what people are saying to you is important. Learning to speak French so you can communicate with neighbours, shop keepers, & tradesmen, will be the key to feeling at home in a new country. Making new French friends who do not speak English will force you to speak French. Adjusting to a different pace of life, where you must wait for service from tradesmen, deliveries etc will be a big adjustment. Unlike in America, things are done at a much slower pace in France. Business hours are different, shops close for lunch 12-2p.m. The norms of how many hours of work per week is regulated by the government, family life takes priority. Meal planning, grocery shopping ,food preparation, cooking, baking, and then eating and wine drinking are all a ritual. Expectations must be adjusted in a new land.

As most don't realize just how much Americans & French have in common. The French greatly impacted the independence of the US. Also each country is very proud of it's industries, craftsmanship and lovers of freedom/independence.

I ask because amid the initial excitement and joy we experienced in just having sold our gorgeous WA state home, receiving our French residency visas, shipping all our belongings across the ocean, finding a French Manor house, putting in an offer and waiting........and waiting......(it takes MONTHS to close on a property in France), we are on the cusp go getting our keys in a few days and we are incredibly overwhelmed, and honestly with regret if Im perfectly honest. The romanticized dream does not fit the reality when you finally consider all things involved. Am I really alone in this shocking reality that now unfolds, do you guys feel this way too at all?????

@@montystepura3689 Wasn't it glorious! What an unexpected, touching moment. Here we are, strangers watching this new story unfold on a vlog, and yet we're crying happy tears. It's so touching, this truth about commonality - we all wish to be touched by or celebrate in something, deep down...even if it's a proud father ringing a bell. He/This whole family has achieved a dream. How beautiful!!!

I'm right behind you!... I was in France Sept & Oct narrowing down regions for my own Chateau purchase in 2022 - I met many other Americans doing the same thing and as acommercial director I shot the entire trip also, The learning curve is very steep but I'm determined and It's so helpful to follow your journey! Cheering you on from Atlanta until we meet up in France as fellow Chatelaines!

I have been following your journey since Stephanie visited your beautiful Chateau several months ago.
It is the most glorious property.
I have lived in 4 different countries in my adult life and although challenging at times it was a very rewarding experience.
Can I suggest that before the family moves back to France to live in your magnificent Chateau you all attend (or do online) a 'positive thinking' course!?!
Unless your attitude changes you will defeat yourselves before you even start!
I wish you the best of luck for the future.

What are your plans for the further of the chateau, it seems enormous for just four persons. Did you purchase it with all furnishings. This is truly a dream come true. Like living in fairytale

I’m excited to start following this journey with you all. Not sure it’s possible, but could there be less ads? There were a ton of ad breaks during my viewing, not sure about others.

So happy for you all. What a dream come true. You did it. My husband and I have been dreaming of this for several years now. We LOVE FRANCE. Hopefully soon the pandemic will be over and we can return and begin looking. Please keep us informed of what the transition looks like for the move, medical, etc. Enjoy.

Your worries are normal, like the day before your wedding, starting a new job, any fresh venture. Don't expect to _fit in'_ exactly. Just try to be yourself, be honest, treat others equibly and learn French. Life will be fine. Challenges exist wherever you live. Put on your armor and get to work enjoying life. Live in the moment while planning for tomorrow.

try not to get too stressed out You're living the dream enjoy it appreciate the fact that you are fortunate enough to achieve this, enjoy the magnificence of the property, take a little time to give thanks to the Universe, I have no doubt it's going to be some hard work but if you think it's getting a little too overwhelming draw a little inspiration from Stephanie remember she started out by herself more or less in that chateau she's come along way you guys are there together as a family I'm definitely wishing you all success

such an emotional video. I think the former owners felt the same stress and had sleepless nights too, because they were leaving this beauty behind. It was so moving to see all the ups and downs of actually buying a chateau, with all the feelings involved, thank you for sharing. The chateau is so exquisite and it is so well maintained, as well as the garden. I look forward to see more of it. It was so beautiful to see a glimpse of the rooms when you moved in.
