    You should react to the video "Halling Norwegian folk dance" from the channel Frikar. Then you get to see the traditional dance Halling, which fitted very well to Alexanders song and violin.

    That's a traditional Norwegian dance. Some ethnic dances are distinct like that, but they are by no means easy, so no need to be xenophobic about it just because you aren't familiar with this type of dancing. In Eurovision they often include folklore elements of their countries because it's a way to display their culture.

    • @josilijo6137
      @josilijo6137  2 роки тому

      Thank you for your feedback. I am not xenophobic so I think you misunderstood my humor. The dance looked funny to me and I made a comment about it but in no way was I trying to insult Norwegian culture and I am sorry for upsetting you. At the same time I think that you should be able to express yourself honestly and openly and the dance looked funny to me. I think that we can make fun of each other's cultures in good fun as I would hate to see the death of comedy.

    I can understand your reaction given that you seem to come from an environment named USA, a country without much history and cultural background. You simply do not have the background to understand the concept of Eurovision and what is going on. The songs in the Eurovision competitions is very often about showing off the old history, culture and uniqueness of the country the competitors represent .....channelled through their music and song traditions. Europe is a very divers spectre of culture and traditions. The music presented must be original and never published before and they often put in elements of their song and music traditions.
    "....the choreography could have been better...." ....well...than you need to change Norwegian folk dance traditions and it's history. What you saw was no made up fantasy of any choreographer ...hence no theatre. This was elements taken directly out from folk dance and this is how it has been done for hundreds of years.
    The point with that kind of dance, like the vaults and kicking down of a hat from a stick ...and so on.... was some sort of competition (accompanied by the music from the fiddle) were that the men should show off and impress the ladies of how athletic they were. 300 years back the church wanted a ban on that kind of dance/music since it had a "bad" influence on young women ....who could get some "immoral" ideas..... (That last could sound like what is going on in the extreme religious groups in USA of today.....).
    Break dance have picked up some similar elements ....maybe influenced by the Norwegian folk dance ....who knows.....
    The second point is that the instrument he use is not a violin but an instrument which is unique to Norway ....it is called Hardingfele (fele = fiddle ). It looks like a violin but has a double set of strings. It's sound is richer and different.....which is obvious to hear in the video. You wouldn't be able to get that sound our of a violin.
    The third point: Alexander Ryback is educated as classic violinist. He has written both text and music himself. The music is heavily influenced by the old folk dance music and have nearly identical sections included in his performance.
