    Your vlog is quickly becoming my favorite. A few things are really on your side. You seen to be such a great guy but you really seem like a great guy to hang with. Don't have anyone to talk poker with all the time and the way you do your vlog, it's almost got a "we're just sitting talking hands" feel to it.

    Yeah , I thought so , cause u did some vlogs from Foxwoods, a while back.. I live in NYC , but a friend mine moved from Salem MA back to Maryland where he's from , and lo & behold MD live was 5 mins. from where he bought his new place , he's 75 & I'm 65 so I have been coming down & playing there alot recently, he has done very well & so have ..I will say no more shh lol.. anyway that was a great call last night with ur pair of sevens on LATB..I said to myself he most have been watching clips of this Ramesy guy ..who loves to run over the games there... regardless it was a great call & totally caught him off guard..bravo to you , and it must have been a thrill to play with Matt Berkey in AC ..he seems like a real nice dude ..as big as plays ..he still came to play in your game..the poker world needs more people like him then all the Prima Donna's it currently has..keep up the vlog it well done , & by the way your not running like god , like these comments , u happen to play very good .. I know I have playing poker since 1986 in casinos from CA to Mississippi ..so keep up the good work !!

      Hey Michael, really appreciate all the kind words, and totally agree about Berkey being a stand up guy. He gets a lot of flack for being confident to the point of arrogance at times, but in person he is super down to earth and it was definitely nice of him to just come splash around with us at 1/2.
      I had a blast on LATB and am toying with the idea of playing tonight if a seat opens up but that'd TBD.

    Hey Matt. I've seen a lot about showing cards and I agree with your thought process, but what is the rule?
    I play with recs and there are 2 guys that will never show even if they make a large river bet and I call. I don't mind it occasionally, but it's literally every single hand.
    I don't want to force him to show in every instance, but I do want to force the show when he should be showing first.

    • @thomashylemon9975
      @thomashylemon9975 7 років тому

      accessdeniedx2 the rule is if u call them they either have to show or muck. if u want to be a dick about it. but u wanna keep your fish happy

    • @accessdeniedx2
      @accessdeniedx2 7 років тому

      Thomas Hylemon, it just irritates me after months of it. One time he bet, I tanked and then finally hero called with a low one pair. He waited. The dealer said... show me a winner and the guy responded... good call. you got it. I showed my one pair, then he flips over his same pair with a higher kicker and said... wow, I thought I was beat. Really pissed me off. I guess he didn't muck. Just since then, I never want to show first... with this guy anyways.
      But I do see your point. So maybe I'll just call to see his hand situationally.

    Can you tell me what I should have done in this situation. I think I made the wrong decision but I’m not totally sure. I play 1/3 and I’m UTG with aces and I raise to 15 get 4 callers. Flop comes 88K rainbow. I lead out for $25. And everyone folds to the big blind who usually plays 5/10 or 2-5.Definitely a regular. He then raises to $75. I decided to just call. And he puts me all in on a blank turn. I think about it and fold face up and he tells me later good fold. Later I’m thinking maybe he saw my $25 lead into $55 as weak maybe so he could put me on like q’s or j’s maybe. But considering he came out of the big blind I’m thinking it’s possible he had an 8 but I think I should have called. What do you think?

    • @MattVaughan
      @MattVaughan  7 років тому

      Small gripe but if you are getting 4 callers fairly often when you raise to $15, I would raise bigger pre. On the flop, I would also bet bigger. You only bet $25 into a ~$60 pot. Whether he thinks that looks weak or not, I can't really say, but it seems a little more likely than if you just bet $40-45 I guess.
      I think the rest of the hand is a little tricky and really player dependent. There's really no draws so you have to put him on a stone cold bluff or a weird value raise with a hand like KQ to even call the turn. I'm not sure how much the shove is for on the turn but I don't think I'm folding if I call the flop. That being said if you're thinking he can't have bluffs then I think it's a lot more likely he has an 8 than just some random K now so I don't fault a fold.
      I think in the grand scheme though if you're calling the flop you need to be calling the turn because his range shouldn't change a whole lot.

    just got back from my first time playing poker. local casino only has 2/5 with 500 max buy in. bought in 145 and made it about 10 hands. one hand was J 7, called 5 and player to my left bet 35, i folded and the flop came J 7 X. another I had Q 2, similar situation, flop came Q 2 X and the river was Q. final hand I got K 7, flop 10 K X, someone went all in for about 75, I called all in for 30 and he had K 10. how do you remember all the hands and plays, do you voice record? I made a voice recording so I could listen back later but I didn't say "fold" every time and didn't say "call" every time so its hard to know exactly. best hand was pocket 4s, and I got one A with a 4.

    • @MattVaughan
      @MattVaughan  6 років тому

      Your casino doesn't run a 1/2 or 1/3 game alongside the 2/5 game? That's pretty unusual - where do you play?
      You can't worry about the times you fold and "would have hit the flop." Once you fold, the hand is over. Just because it would have happened to hit that time doesn't mean playing the hand preflop would have been correct. So you're doing the right thing.
      Buying in for 145 it's going to be tough to be successful in a 2/5 game. That's only 29 big blinds. Was that literally your first time playing? Or have you played in home games before? You will probably find more success at least buying in for 300+ where you have room to maneuver and make decisions postflop.

My last session I lost $2900 - Just losing with over pairs / sets and flushs -My last hand I had JdJc $1200 effective in SB. Weak player opens CO goes $20 - BTN calls - I 3bet $100 in SB folds around to CO - he calls - BTN folds. Ad7d5c - I cbet $100 - he calls. Turn Jh - I bet $300 - he jams - I snap call - he has AcAs river 4c. So pretty sick hand.

    I kind of like bombing the J3 hand on the river. Since you have all 3s in your range it's more than possible to have Q3, A3 or 53. Also sure KhQx is in his range, but surely so is QxJh, and TxTh, 9x9h. All hands you could see making a thin value bet on the river and folding to a bomb. I think making it something like 250-350 probably gets him to fold his entire range (and sure, you're turning your trips into a bluff, but in this spot it's either a bluff or a bluff catcher anyway).
    I fully agree to not forcing a rec to show; it's crazy that it's almost entirely low and mid stakes pros who make a big deal about this... The top level pros all seem to be happy to turn over a winner and let their opponent muck, and recs are usually happy about it, too. Don't ever forget that sometimes players muck the best hand... They forget they had a single card to a flush, or make a gutter ball they didn't see, and end up losing a pot they would win had they shown down. I had this happen to me recently where someone mucked a straight, and we've all seen someone turn their hand over and the dealer announce it a winner when they didn't realize it. Don't make recs show to keep the game friendly, but you also might win a pot or two you otherwise wouldn't.
    Hope you're banking these wins and not stopping in the pits on the way out! Gotta prepare for the inevitable down swing.

    Let me ask you this, kinda talking about the etiquette and who shows first, does it really matter who shows first?? I’ve always just flipped my hand over immediately after any action has closed no matter if I’m the raiser or the caller as to not deal with any of the “what do you have” “you show no you show “ nonsense, should i not do that???

    • @MattVaughan
      @MattVaughan  7 років тому

      Depends how valuable you think the info of what their hand is. If you literally do that every time, then everyone gets to info-freeroll you.
      But if you don't care or you're not playing for profit then I'm not going to sit here and tell you that's wrong lol. Do what you want basically. =) I just wanted to explain my reasoning because I've gotten several comments suggesting that it was a bad idea to do what I do.

    Wow Matt you run like God. Straight flushes and sets in multiway 3bet pots. Keep up the great vlog. I think the pocket QQ is a pretty easy fold for me. You have no hearts and you could already be drawing thin against a set. You only had $60 invested so might as well let them battle. I don't hate the flop call but you have to think you're flipping at best when someone bets $150 on the flop, he happened to be bluffing with air and it was the other guy who ended up having it. I guess I run so bad that it causes me to make some overly tight folds sometimes.

      I need to disagree with your analysis a bit. I have "nothing but a bluff catcher" but I'm against a range that is going to be a LOT of bluffs. I gloss over a lot of my thought process in these videos for the sake of time and bc many people will click away if I spend more than 2 minutes on any given hand, but there's a lot going for my hand here, not the least of which is that the top card paired the turn, making a T a lot less likely. Additionally, there are a ton of hands that contain just a large spade.
      Also the statement "you're in the hand for $20" isn't super important. What matters is the EV of my decision now - regardless of what money went in earlier in the hand. If I fold all my 8x here on the turn I'm folding way too many hands given the fact that SB has a green light to bluff once the preflop raiser checks behind the flop. The more interesting decision is on the river, where tbh I could go either way.

      Thank you for your added insight. To be clear, you are 10X the player I am, and maybe I am too exploitable. Could be a big hole in my game.

      Haha thanks Eric, I don't want you to get the wrong impression - I make TONS of mistakes, and if I believe I make one I am very hard on myself about it lol.
      But I did want to make sure it was clear that I can't always discuss everything in these videos. I appreciate the input and the discussion!

    Matt my man, running should not be about breaking your record if you are focusing on distance. You sound like you are trying to do two different things. You either want to get faster or run further, focusing on both is going to fuck with your mentality.

    • @MattVaughan
      @MattVaughan  7 років тому

      Thanks for looking out. It's not particularly either right now - it's about getting to baseline healthy cardio routine. Going faster and longer is just happening naturally because both heart and muscles are getting better virtually every run, and my endurance and speed are both getting better. Without really pushing hard at all.
      In general I don't think I'll really be going much beyond 5 miles. 5k is my distance right now and I'm using an app for it so it's not like I'm randomly gonna start going like 10 miles trying to break my speed record. =)

      Ahh, was just worried you were trying to do too much at once and then it makes it much much harder to do your goal! But good luck to you! Are you planning on joining a "race" and doing a 5k? They are really good motivation to get to your goal when you start and you probably could push yourself to 5k already if you were running with other people! Much like the song thing you mentioned you are able to do crazy things when you run with others helping to push you there. Hope you get your goal soon man and keep playing good poker, good win at LATB as well! Glad to see you come out as the big winner!

    You are running insane - those are the kind of heaters you get very rarely. With the QQ hand - kind of a gross spot - I don't mind the turn jam, but really hard to get called by worse, and I think you are over repping your hand a bit, and pretty lucky the guy didn't have a flopped flush. His most likely limp calling hand is a hand like 66 or 77 with 1 heart - I would think a bare Ah would be raising and he only called because the guy went in dark and had no idea what to do.
    the 55 hand is fine - defiantly calling for the $100 but you run insane that the action went like that. Unreal.

    • @MattVaughan
      @MattVaughan  7 років тому

      Yeah in QQ hand I tried to make it clear I wasn't really trying to get a call at all. I just didn't think he ever had better. I can't go over every single read on every player but there's NO way he would raise the bare Ah on the flop.
      I hope I made it clear how aware of the run good I am lol.
