Yup, now with the new consoles, you don't want to have a GPU weaker than the consoles, in fact you want your CPU and GPU to be 33% faster than the consoles, because optimization for PC is general purpose, not hardcoded like consoles. For 1080p you want a GPU that is 33% faster than the Xbox Series S.

So when a RX 580 with 8GB is running on around 7 GB VRAM, the 1660 is running with only around 5GB. Thats why a RX5600 or a RTX 2060 also only have 6 GB of VRAM, because they are a lot faster. And thats why its highly recommended to buy a 8 GB model then you dont have a fast Card with GDDR6, especially looking to 2020 and forward. 4 GB will dont be enough in the future.
Some small adjustments and the 4 gig card can run everything smooth without losing gorgeous textures and the visuals of the game. Just turn off FSA and the shadows set them to medium and other stuff put low. Just keep water texthere's and a few other settings. Extremely ultra-high and turn off everything else. The game will look amazing and use less than 4 gigs of ram.

They are not exactly the same, the 8gb has faster memory clock. Also, the difference in fps in Warzone wasn't that small, It was straight up dropping to 50 fps on the 4gb model.
I have the same card on your right hand(Asus) and I'd say the 8GB is really a nice option. I play only World of Tanks atm and it's taking around 5GB+/- of VRAM on the current version. I get around 90-100 fps on ultra settings. Love this card.

ah 4gb btw makes a difference if you want to play games and stream/record at 1080p 60fps at least. overclocking would also help the 580,8gb ive got the 580.4gb and it gives me a hard time when trying to stream and play at 1080p and high framerate (144fps+)
It isn't just that Warzone is "lowering settings", it's that VRAM use is deceptive. A lot of games "use" VRAM without really using it, they'll just reserve it in such a way that Afterburner thinks it's being utilized so it'd look like it was pinned no matter how much VRAM you have.
You might run into certain games lagging hard with higher settings with the 4gb card but bumping stuff down a bit usually fixes it. And let's be honest if your card can only run it at 60 fps at medium there's really no point setting it to high.
I may be late... But maybe you read it. The 8gb card has 2000Mhz vram and the 4gb 1750Mhz vram so thats why it is a touch slower, but when cod uses 7gb+ vram it is not using it. It is just allocating it, like the game says "hey i need this, dont touch this"
There is not much in terms of performance, but you can see how video quality is affected when you use 4gb, even when it shows 60 fps video lags, that is also a cause for lags in game, recording softwer can lose quality and fps if video ram is fully used also affecting game performance. Even if you are short on budget in my opinion, save a bit and buy 8gb, its more "future proof" and you will not regret it, plus Dinki do you think RX 580 is still a best buy, or should I save money for GTX 1660 Super, I live in bannana country so RX 580 still costs around 230 euros, and GTX 1660 super is 100-150 euros more, do you think performance of GTX is worth 1/3 of a price? Why don't you overclock memory on 4gb model to 2000mhz? That will "explain" difference in fps on Far Cry 5 ;) I have 4gb model with overclocked memory up to 2200mhz and I have 7-10 fps more delends on game, on Far Cry 5 on ultra settings I have 77 fps on average ;)

If you barely get any money to buy a card, get a 1050 ti. If you have 200 dollars to spare, get a 580. To most people ( including myself and people I know) this is not what I would consider a budget card but it can change.
DONT BUY A 1050 SERIES TI OR NON TI INSTEAD OF A RX 580 (580 is far better in terms of performance), this comes from a 6years user of a 1050 and 1050 ti, only buy them if you dont have enough power in your supply, P.S: 1050 series are very reliable cards, been using them for 6 years straight and never had an issue, also 7 of my irl friends have them and still rocking them

its not lowering the quality, what its doing is it is unloading things its not currently using, and then you will get a fps spike when it needs that texture or whatever, or your fps will drop. thats really the only difference and for most games 4gb is still enough

MSI afterburner, u can adjust the settings to make it look better
The 8gig vram is better because windows 11 uses the available memory to transfer data on SSD for EXTRA gaming performance.
