I started embracing a minimalist lifestyle my second year of college. My GPA went from a 2.3 to a 3.5 in one semester. That's my tip for anyone in college. You have so much going on between classes, work and homework. Anything that streamlines your life and makes things easier is priceless. Learn to live with less. You'll have that much less to worry about.
I was just thinking about that, that's one issue I have with all these makeovers, they add SO much to the room. Even their minimalist makeover was so maximalist. I love the whole look though, they're really cool but I'd appreciate some more actual minimalist makeovers
Omg ive used the 3m hooks to hang my curtain rods before. followed directions and gave myself a heartattack when they came crashing down at 3 in the morning. paint n all.
I went to two colleges and both of them banned us from hanging large things on the walls and ceilings. I would recommend not buying too much decor stuff until you ACTUALLY get to your dorm. you don't really know what you'll need until then.
If you re in a hurry and trip over the wire basket thing on the floor, your mirror and light are going to fall. So I 'm not sure it's that stable, but it does look cool.
I think its really cool that you guys created a website to sell the things you found at a thrift store. HOWEVER, I find it a little grotesque to see the prices for the items we know you bought for dirt cheap. Why is the wire grid damn near $30 on your website? And the tapestry $50? That's just too much in my opinion..
Because girls gotta eat. They have to cover cost of item, cost of shipping, the time they invest in finding the items and a little for profit. Plus I've noticed that Canadian thrift prices, even when adjusted for conversion, are much more expensive than US prices. Ita weird.
omg yes you're actually doing a dorm makeover in an actual dorm!! so many youtubers do it in a big room that is no where near the actual size of a dorm room
Yeah of course, I doubt anyone is going to attempt to replicate the entire room and everything within. It's a show room, show rooms are never practical. They serve the our posing of showcasing many items for inspiration. Your comment was unnecessary
+Eve Leman your comment was unnecessary everyone can have there opinion if someone loves this room they will recreate it all exactly some people just like simple. No need to be rude
WISH I were this talented when I decorated my dorm room! I'm so impressed that you both gave so much thought into how to make this affordable! Absolutely loved this video and I'm gonna share it to all my subscribers
General hanging warning: I used both painters tape and command hooks on my walls to hang pictures, posters, string lights, etc. - they both stayed perfectly BUT they also BOTH caused paint to rip off the wall. The paint they generally use in dorms is cheap and thin, so you have to remove everything realllly carefully. Also, at my university they make us leave our heat on high when we go on winter break (the room is 80-90 degrees for a month), so the glue melted into the paint even stronger. If you have to do something similar and don't have very many things hung up, consider taking them down before you go on break and putting them back up when you return. (I had ~60 polaroids hung up so I chose to leave everything and risk it) I got lucky and they didn't fine anyone because that building is now scheduled to get knocked down this coming year, but otherwise it would've been a pretty steep bill.
ARE YOU KIDDING!!!! you are going to charge 50 dollars for a tapestry that you probably got for 5?? And im sure you got those grids for like 50 cents each! More expensive than urban outfitters and even they are a rip off, but considering they are not used items makes it even worse.
My love for this channel just grew so much. Unlike most dorm room decor guides yours was actually in style, affordable and dorm friendly!! Thank you so much
Don't expect to be able to hang anything to the ceiling like this! It may be cute, but it's a fire hazard and most college don't allow it! My bets tip is to buy a small cube shelf, six cubes, and bring your bed up if it has lofting equipment. Mine wasn't fully lofted, just enough that my dresser and my cube shelf (which I used for shoes and three fabric boxes of socks, underwear, etc.) can fit underneath the bed.
Love this makeover! I'm a second year student at Humber Lakeshore and your success on UA-cam as Humber Alumni is really inspiring to me. Keep shining! Also, lovin' the Hawks pride on the Cinema sign, gotta represent ;)
minionsforlife why would you need a survival kit for middle school ..? It's literally middle school. Wtf lol. Just make sure you keep pads/tampons, lotion, and your homework/school supplies lmao it ain't that difficult
I loved the idea of using a copper rod and command hooks to hang white curtains. A mirror on top of a wire basket is great storage and use of vertical space. Thanks for the inexpensive decor ideas for an apartment and a dorm.
In my student apartment, I also had a small kitchen. To make my apartment more my own, I changed the handles on the kitchen cabinets + my wardrobe from the old, ugly ones to some fresh ones from IKEA. Looked a lot better, was super cheap, didn't leave any marks and of course I kept the old ones and put them back before I moved out. Super simple.
Even though I'm way out of college I love the room makeover videos. But I'm seriously impressed you did a dorm room makeover that actually would be affordable for a student. It looks great
I love you guys sense of decoration. Most of the spaces you work with have beautiful natural lighting. I would like to see what you can create with little to no lighting.
Love the canopy effect the curtains & tapestry give the bed!!! Legit going to have to find some curtains an a tapestry to re-create it in my apartment.
theres something that ameks me really excited and happy everytime i see an empty room or a blank sheet of paper, just i feel like i can do whatever i want with it and that its so fresh lmao
My RA senses are going off because I would fail this room because you cant hang things from the ceiling in dorms it's a major fire hazard... buttt if you hang the tapestry from the wall i think it adds a unique accent wall and is super cute
i hate how do described a capsule wardrobe as trendy or sth like that capsule wardrobes aren't about being trendy ,it's about minimalism and thinking about your relationship to fast fashion
It doesn't matter if someone starts a capsule wardrobe because they heard the word trend or not, they're still contributing to less resources used and less slave labor, and all the other great things that come from a capsule wardrobe
Wow you guys are amazing! Very creative and very unique. I have a questions, where do you get the copper pipes. (the thrift store or the craft store or maybe the DIY stores)
Humber Alumni's! This is such an awesome video, loved the pattern on the closet doors with the electrical tape! Me and my roommate used electrical tape to create designs on the ceiling of our kitchenette and bathroom in our suites too!
Also for the door wall ideas, you can hang a mirror, and like a firm box and keep your makeup in true box, and apply your makeup on the portable made up "station"
this is so cute, i love it when you guys do home decor! my fav dorm trick is hanging up those christmas-y string lights, they're cheap and super cozy feeling :)
I am sooo glad I found you ladies channel😍 I am obsessed now. I love to DIY any and everything I can but sometimes don't know how. You ladies have so many great tutorials that I'm sure I can DIY my entire house lol. Thanks ladies.... You Rock!!
its all fun and games until you're trying to drunkenly get ready and yank the heels out of the grate and the mirror comes crashing down lol that shit does not look stable at all
My family had a lot of old grid type storage bins from ikea and I use those for EVERYTHING. I hung three up in my closet on an empty wall so now whenever I wanna lay out an outfit I hang them up on the grids. Also great if you don't wanna dry something in the dryer.
am i the only person who didnt find this helpful? like it started out cute but then you added all your "diys" without showing how to make them and it was basically just a 10 minutes video on how to use command hooks.
Oh my gosh the mirror just stacked like that made me so anxious

I can already feel that mirror falling over
Omg ive used the 3m hooks to hang my curtain rods before. followed directions and gave myself a heartattack when they came crashing down at 3 in the morning. paint n all.
Mine actually said it cannot be used on painted walls. I only put it on my door.
Just do tons of college videos please! You make really great quality videos and they are an tally helpful and very informative!! Thank you!
Yes, i agree! I'm entering college woohoo! :)
totally!
+From Kat i am entering college this year, too
Right! I'm only in secondary school and I'm so excited for uni it's unhealthy

omg yes you're actually doing a dorm makeover in an actual dorm!! so many youtubers do it in a big room that is no where near the actual size of a dorm room

New subbie! Love the vids keep them coming! xx
It's my first video
i hope you don't mind me asking but are you two sistets or friends
In the big picture, this room feels like too much clutter to me, but you have definitely used some cool idea's here.
FakeSun96 o totally agree
Kerensa Richards if someone liked simple (aka boring) they wouldn't be on a design channel in the first place 🙄
Eve Leman Leman you were just unnecessary to say that everyone has an opinion so shut up u have yours that person has theirs just seriously (idiot)
Hey!! Can you do a unisex master bedroom please 😩 the struggle is real (getting married next month need some ideas)
That's an awesome idea. I'd love to see that too!
That would be fantastic since my husband and I absolutely suck at decoration XD
Aww congrats!!
Girl, I feel you. I've been married just over a year and our room still looks like a boy-girl Frankenstein nightmare.
+erotic bandaid thank you!!
"most dorm rooms wont let u nail things but obviously you need to hang things" like a noose for myself lol
#relatable jk

I don't think those command hooks are strong enough
me.
I wish you ended these videos with how much in total you spent on the design.
That would be extremely helpful! Especially when you're broke.
I wish they'd turned the neon sign on (again!!!)
That binder clip tip for hanging the tapestry on the ceiling? GENIUS!
AHHHH THIS AMAZING BECAUSE THAT IS LITERALLY MY SCHOOL AND DORM ROOM THAT I HAVE NEXT YEAR !!!!!!!!! thank you sooooo much
PERFECT!!
What school? I really like the dorm!
My school is literally right next to it, but I'm in highschool so no dorm
Humber College, this video helped a lot for my suite this year thank you!!!!
Laura Rovetti Redmond?
Wow... that was INCREDIBLE!!!!
This is one of the nicest dorm rooms I've ever seen even without all of the stuff you girls added, super cute!
aaaah i love what you did with this dorm room! too cute!
omg femkeeej, nooit gedacht je hier te zien ❤
Same! Also ideas for small rooms
it's literally the perfect aesthetic 😭🌿
WISH I were this talented when I decorated my dorm room! I'm so impressed that you both gave so much thought into how to make this affordable! Absolutely loved this video and I'm gonna share it to all my subscribers
This is so ultra cute! One, makes me want to go back to school and two, I have the same measuring tape.
twinning!!
Just a warning that some electrical tape can leave a really sticky and oily residue when it's peeled up.
+verpixxxelt Not washi tape.
+
Use Washi tape instead
6:16 The way they put the tape crosses on the wardrobe made it so that you couldn't actually open the doors...
General hanging warning: I used both painters tape and command hooks on my walls to hang pictures, posters, string lights, etc. - they both stayed perfectly BUT they also BOTH caused paint to rip off the wall.

When this room looks better than my actual room
ikr

rtrt
you don't have to say that
Awkward moment when all those hooks suddenly fall off during the night.
I'll have a heart attack XD
Oh yes, that was my first thought as well XD
@Taylor and then they fall again, vut faster, because the sticky has worn off a bit.
Taylor Why are you being so rude about it?- There’s nicer ways to approach someone.
i can't believe that i've actually found an inexpensive dorm room decor video! of course it would be yall to do it lol!
Hahha we always on that adorable affordable life
ahh you replied! and yes you are!!! i can't count how much inspo for cheap projects you guys have given me for my room :)
My love for this channel just grew so much. Unlike most dorm room decor guides yours was actually in style, affordable and dorm friendly!! Thank you so much

+TheSorryGirls you should do a how to survive middle school and a survivle kit please
minionsforlife why would you need a survival kit for middle school ..? It's literally middle school. Wtf lol. Just make sure you keep pads/tampons, lotion, and your homework/school supplies lmao it ain't that difficult
ahhhh binge watching all of your videos and now want to re decorate my entire house!!
I'm going to use most of these tips for my apartment love the feel and the overall look
I loved the idea of using a copper rod and command hooks to hang white curtains. A mirror on top of a wire basket is great storage and use of vertical space. Thanks for the inexpensive decor ideas for an apartment and a dorm.

omg if my dorm room looked like that i would have never left my room!!
When you put up the tapestry all I could imagine is it falling on you in the middle of the night 😂😂
This dorm room is HUGE!
Even though I'm way out of college I love the room makeover videos. But I'm seriously impressed you did a dorm room makeover that actually would be affordable for a student. It looks great
Amazing decorating!

It's so refreshing to see an honest dorm room makeover! Wish I had this video before I went to school!
y'all are so under rated!!!!
I love you guys sense of decoration. Most of the spaces you work with have beautiful natural lighting. I would like to see what you can create with little to no lighting.
OMG I want those gray pillows.... Where can I get it??
Love the canopy effect the curtains & tapestry give the bed!!! Legit going to have to find some curtains an a tapestry to re-create it in my apartment.
This is everything I needed and more.😍❤️
The second they walked into the dorm rooms I knew exactly what college they were at, so cool! :)
This is like my fifth time watching this and I not even in college lol
The hooks to hang the curtain rod is so genius! Thank you!!
you guys made this dorm look amazing! 😍
Thank you!!!
Why can you not like more than one time?! I LOVED this!!!
Could you do a thrift flip for back to school please? ❤️ the videos
ouuu good idea!!!!!
If you can't find those wall grids, you could just take the legs off of a locker shelf ! 😊
I've never seen a dorm room this nice or big lmao
this is by far one of the most creative dorm room tutorials i've ever seen!! kudos to you two!!
Omg!! I'm going to Guelph-Humber near the Humber north campus. This video was so helpful and so cool! Love you xox
You're going to love it!
I went to Humber too!
I go to humber!!
I go to GH too! I live in rez too so yay
ya gotta add fairy lights to everything they add so much to a room, totally worth it
can you do one for two people dorms?
I love it! Especially the electrical tape crosses on the closet doors! So easy and very chic!
Could you guys design a room with a bunk bed?
Absolutely love how you all incorporated so many of your DIYs into this video!!
Awesome ♥
theres something that ameks me really excited and happy everytime i see an empty room or a blank sheet of paper, just i feel like i can do whatever i want with it and that its so fresh lmao
You could put like makeup or hair stuff in the bin under the mirror.
That would work out perfectly!
My RA senses are going off because I would fail this room because you cant hang things from the ceiling in dorms it's a major fire hazard... buttt if you hang the tapestry from the wall i think it adds a unique accent wall and is super cute
perf!! then it'll be RA approved :)
i hate how do described a capsule wardrobe as trendy or sth like that
capsule wardrobes aren't about being trendy ,it's about minimalism and thinking about your relationship to fast fashion
*you
It doesn't matter if someone starts a capsule wardrobe because they heard the word trend or not, they're still contributing to less resources used and less slave labor, and all the other great things that come from a capsule wardrobe
@@susiiib2286 not really. The people doing it for the trend are just buying brand new capsule wardrobes every few months.
Love the bed with the curtains 😍
I love this wow! Too bad my dorm is a double :(
That hack for hanging the tapestry on the ceiling is AMAZING. I'm graduating this semester but.... I'm still gonna do that haha.
wait but copper pipes are way more expensive than curtain rods.?
Rhiannon Johnson That was my thought!
Rhiannon Johnson that's why she said she already had them. It was somewhere on the screen
The curtain and tapestry combo is soo cute! Definitely going to that in two weeks on move in day!
Wow you guys are amazing! Very creative and very unique. I have a questions, where do you get the copper pipes. (the thrift store or the craft store or maybe the DIY stores)
You get them in the plumbing section of the hardware store like Home Depot, Lowes, etc! :)
Katie Bookser Thanks so much!
Humber Alumni's! This is such an awesome video, loved the pattern on the closet doors with the electrical tape! Me and my roommate used electrical tape to create designs on the ceiling of our kitchenette and bathroom in our suites too!
can you please come to my dorm and make it over :)))) ahaha this is amazing
Also for the door wall ideas, you can hang a mirror, and like a firm box and keep your makeup in true box, and apply your makeup on the portable made up "station"
What type of hook did you use to hang the light from the ceiling, will it leave marks or is it the same sticky hooks.
Sticky hooks! It was specifically these ones because the silver part can swivel making it better for the ceiling! rstyle.me/n/bvwny2b69f7
+TheSorryGirls thanks
this is so cute, i love it when you guys do home decor! my fav dorm trick is hanging up those christmas-y string lights, they're cheap and super cozy feeling :)
I don't think I would do the pattern on the closet AND the pattern on the duvet...
That's a nice ass dorm even without the upgrade
all that maths just to aline some triangles? I would just messily put them on in any order
sameeeee
I am sooo glad I found you ladies channel😍 I am obsessed now. I love to DIY any and everything I can but sometimes don't know how. You ladies have so many great tutorials that I'm sure I can DIY my entire house lol. Thanks ladies.... You Rock!!
wwoooooowww amazing
I LITERALLY love how y'all transformed this room!
I clicked on this video so fast my hand was a blur
Seriously these girls are angels on earth!!!!
SAYING "In right now" IS NOT IN RIGHT NOW!!!!!
I think the blanket thing on top of the bed brings everything together
Why would you spend money to cover a white wall with white curtains? That's just stupid.
textures thooo
I love white on white!
whatare this it makes it look a little more...classier
whatare this bc it looks nice, u know us girls
whatare this I think it looks pretty cool
Love love love all your ideas!! Coming from someone living in a dorm room, this was BEYOND helpful! Thanks guys!!!!
its all fun and games until you're trying to drunkenly get ready and yank the heels out of the grate and the mirror comes crashing down lol that shit does not look stable at all
My family had a lot of old grid type storage bins from ikea and I use those for EVERYTHING. I hung three up in my closet on an empty wall so now whenever I wanna lay out an outfit I hang them up on the grids. Also great if you don't wanna dry something in the dryer.
hawks? whats state is that?
LOL Canada
TheSorryGirls haha lol I live in Canada and I get people from the use asking what state I live in I'm like, I live in BC CANADA lol
state lmao
If you have the tools, you can make some pretty cool lofts to put your bed on, and put a couch or your desk under it for more floorspace.
am i the only person who didnt find this helpful? like it started out cute but then you added all your "diys" without showing how to make them and it was basically just a 10 minutes video on how to use command hooks.
margaret true
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO. IM MOVING IN MY DORM IN A MONTH AND IM LOST AF HOW I WANT TO DECORATE IT. I AM DEFINITELY INSPIRED NOW!
