I have been loving my Ally. My buddies loves to play overwatch but sometimes I just wanna lay in bed and play and this works flawlessly. I've tried Diablo, NFS Unbound, Baldurs Gate, and Fortnite on it so far. I keep at 900P resolution and I think it's the sweet spot for FPS and Quality. I could not be happier with this.
This device is amazing and will be alot better once Asus gets this firmware together. They could've given us a better stand...it looks like the recycled paper McDonald's uses for its cup holders
Is it easier getting a 1tb microsd instead of a new ssd since it already has a 512gb one? Just seems like a waste getting a new ssd since it already has a pretty good one from stock. Please do correct me if my thinking is flawed.

Tbh yes, i loved the steam deck at first but after a while i started having lots of issues with games crashing or being laggy, or games freezing. On the ROG Ally games just work and that's refreshing, its a tiny bit lighter to hold too and has two cooling fans instead of one like in the steam deck. A lot of people will complain about battery because it uses more power to get better performance, but honestly most of the time I'm playing it in the couch next to an outlet so that's not really a big deal.
@@journeyofdrew1644 and also you can buy powerbank for it if you aren't by a outlet also especially if you work a certain job maybe a midnight shift where you just watch items etc you'll still be by outlets but it's safe to have a powerbank or 2 I currently have a Anker elite 3 so perfect time to treat myself to a new handheld the steam deck is also very cheap my r1 button is very very hard to press I haven't sent it in yet because I don't even want it or play it
Dang, you didn't even turn it on to see if it works before upgrading SSD.. It's very user friendly that it can download the OS from device when you upgrade SSD . I saw other user who didn't;t know of this downloaded Windows and drivers on usb drive and plug in to install.
The windows installation+ drivers takes a couple of hours. Just don't touch it while it's doing it's thing. There will be a few cases where it boots into windows looking like it's ready, but it does that to install the drivers. You will know when it's done when you get to the windows setup screen
if this one has 120hz then it means if i stream from my pc normal or with steam link i could go over 90 fps a guess at all ultra 1080p,i tried that on my steam deck and i have an around 58-60fps on ultra with control support

Yeah it was in fact super easy. That bios installation made it easier, and taking off the back cover to access the SSD was easier too. I didn't remove the battery and it was fine. Obviously the device needs to be off though. :)

@@bloodywolf9992 yeah if you have a USB SSD or large flash drive or SD card, you could transfer your steam library there temporarily and do the upgrade and then transfer it back. Or if you don't have one, you can just redownload it like normal. Either way works

I haven't had any problems like that at all. On steam deck though i had a bunch of problems with games crashing all the time or freezing and always having to restart the system. ROG Ally had been really great so far.
@@journeyofdrew1644 Never had any issues like that on my Steam Deck, a crash every once in a while but quite rare. If you have a chance of getting the Rog Ally, I'd get the Rog Ally, it's a more powerful device and can play more games.

I didn't register anything, it just has the cloud recovery thing in the stock bios. I never seen turned the device on before i installed the new SSD as you saw in the video

Like what's the sole purpose you're buying this device?? It's to play games right?? So the performance is the most important aspect... I changed the SSD before i ever turned it on. What you saw in the video of me unboxing and then swapping the SSD is what actually happened lol. But this device makes it really easy to do it because of the bios windows installer, i didn't have to really do anything. It did it for me

I got myself the Ally, and I am happy with it. I upgraded to 2TB as well, and it was pretty easy to do. It just took a while to get all the games downloaded. I was wondering if you could save time if you cloned the disk, but I wanted to do a fresh install anyway. I also have Geforce Now running and when I am in a good network (like home) it works really well, after some tweaks with the controls. It also saves a ton of space on your Ally 🙂
thanks for this. how long did it say on the windows loading screen for you? i know you wrote that it took a couple of hours..just wanted to make sure. i've been at the windows loading screen for the past 1 hour. btw my internet speeds aren't the greatest.
@@journeyofdrew1644 thanks i found the issue. i forgot that i had my external sd card installed. i read that if you leave it in there during the recovery process it will hang on either the asus rog start up logo or the windows one. this helped. thanks though your video helped me a lot still.
did you try disable turbo boost for amd cpu? you will get around 75c temps and lose maybe 10fps + get amazing battery life ,gets usefull somethimes,try it ✌😊

ive been playing bioshock infinite on mine. idk, for not being an oled screen it still looks OUTRAGEOUSLY good. cant hurt to have a screen cleaner nearby at all times though 😂
It was that stock bios that came with it, and then it updated the bios when installing windows and the drivers automatically. So now i have latest bios
it can get a little hot, i think its unavoidable since under your hands are the cpus and stuff. But the dual cooling fans still prevents it from getting TOO TOO hot. The steam deck makes my hands sweat lol.
Ive installed SSD on my laptop without unplugging the battery too, never had an issue. You always could unplug it if you're worried about discharge tho. But it's most likely fine either way. :)

Boys this is my setting. It looks amazing. 1. Go to AME graphic setting set sharpenness to 50% 2 turn system to 720p 3. Medium texture 4. Turn off dynamic lighting 5. Everything is on high. 7. Turn off super resolution 8. Set fps to 66. For some reason if you set it to 60, it always goes below 60. But at 66. It always stays between 60-66. The game looks so goood. So sharp. Much better than having fsr and super resolution on. Enjoy
@@journeyofdrew1644 benchmark for AAA games, witcher 3, god of war, etc.. on all settings even 720p is okay test it. Try to reach high refresh rates then try higher resolution.
God of war on the deck I run at native res no fsr, 100% render quality, all original settings, and I get a locked 30, with vibrant deck too, it looks just as good as this somehow.
Yeah I suspect i can get much better performance out of God of war. I'm going to experiment with it, because it wanted to run at highest settings but it feels like i just need to change just one thing. It looks really good and feels another in the Ally

Yeah it's the same type of SSD, i think if you just install it in the ROG Ally and then do the bios installation it should overwrite everything.

on the steam deck i had to close the Battle net lauchner behind the game, it runs like a charms after it. Maybe its the same solution here

Same amount of glare it had without it. Because there is no anti glare on the default screen just normal glass.

2TB seems to be the maximum size for a 2230 form factor M.2 NVMe SSD.

I think it was 00 if i remember correctly. It was one size down from the case screws if not the same.

yeah it can run with a 2 tb ssd and also a sd card for extra storage if you wanted to. The sd card slot on this machine is faster than the steam deck.

i’m with you there, i’m coming from a 1440p 165hz panel i use on the daily, the Ally’s display is beautiful even for being a 1080p screen.
Lol yeah I have my glasses cleaner next to me to clean the fingerprints

The speakers are actually surprisingly good. And with custom fan curves to be higher, it's much better. I haven't had any issues.
