Only North Central Florida near Gainsville, has Rye grass that grows very vigiously during the cool winter months, but not freezing. No where else does anything but baja grass grow and not very well. Possibly muck farms near St. Augustin, FL. they grow cabbage during the cool months very well.
I'm looking for a grass or cereal in a vineyard setting. I'd like to seed it in September-October. Let it grow over winter and spring. Kill it with a Roller Crimper around Mai-June, so that the bedding keeps the weeds down over the summer (we often have dry summers). Then before seeding i would mulch the grass residue. I'm just completely overwhelmed by the number of grasses/cereals available.
