This is one of those things we will never forget. We hope to bring awareness to breath holding spells. We are thankful our little guy is ok.

I just want to let you know that this was our exact story too. I was almost positive that my son had a seizure a few days ago, and still questioned the doctors diagnosis of breath holding spells until I saw this video. The steps and reactions were almost identical with what you and your husband went through. I'm very grateful that you shared your story, and I know how incredibly scary the entire experience was. Thank you 🙏

My daughter started doing breath holding spells when she was 3 months old. She didn't have another one until she was about 5 months old. Soon after that she started having one a day and than it progressed into having them 5 times a day. When she was 13 months old she had a breath holding spells that lead into her having a seizure. I took her into the ER right away and the doctors there acted like it was nothing to serious but my doctor ordered an EEG, which came back normal. A month later she had another seizure after a breath holding spell. Called my doctor right away, sent him the video that I took during the whole ordeal. He said it was nothing to worry about. Three months later she had another breath holding spell that lead into her having a seizure for 23 minutes long!! Rushed her into the ER while she was still seizing. We did another EEG and this time it came back abnormal. She is now on seizure medication and the Neurologist at Lurie's Children's Hospital in Chicago believes that her seizures have been created from her brains response from the lack of oxygen. Once the brain has learned to cope with the lack of oxygen this way it will keep resorting back to this behavior. She is now 20 months old, she still has breath holding spells at least once a day, maybe skipping a day or two in between. Even with her on seizure medication she still will have a practical seizure, that means, when she passes out, she will chew with her mouth and her eyes will be fixated to one side and she might move her hands at the wrist. She is somewhat awake during all of this cause she will be crying while all of this is happening. Her case is so uncommon that our Neurologist has only seen or heard of one other case like hers. Are there any other parents out there that have had this happen to their children?

This story has me crying hard. I am so sorry that you all experienced this. I know the fear personally though my story is quite different it is still similar. My 23 year old son stopped breathing in his sleep. Yes, He was 23 but still my baby. Rescue came and tried everything. Rushed him to the hospital and Dr.s also tried very hard but I lost my precious son. 😭💔 My life was forever changed on July06,2016 It was later determined he had a branch blockage in his heart causing it to stop beating and only vibrate. So I know first hand the fear and anxiety that comes with such a memory. Thank you so much for sharing your story and I am so thankful that your precious baby is ok. This just happened to me for the first time today. Which is how I found this video. I have three children two girls ages 5 and 4 and a little boy 9 months and I'm currently pregnant with baby number 4. Neither of my girls ever did this so I didnt know what to think. My son was starting to get fussy as he does around every nap time. Out of no where while laying beside me he just started screaming and as you explained I was waiting after the long pause to hear the scream that never came. I instantly grabbed him up and done the same as you I blew In his face. He however did take the breath finally but after he did he got silent and began acting as if he was falling asleep but I knew that wasnt what it was so I had my brother call the ambulance right away. He was passing out and going in and out of conciousness. I kept easily blowing in his face to make sure he was able to take deep breaths and within a few minutes he was fine. But I nearly had a heart attack and didnt take my eyes off of him the rest of the day. Now I'm scared everytime he even begins to cry.

My son did this frequently as an infant. I believe he finally stopped when he was 3. I remember how scary it was when it first started happening. The doctors did every test. They checked his heart, brain scans, acid reflux testing with him staying overnight in the hospital with a tube down his throat. He was on a heart monitor at night. My husband and I took an infant CPR class. Finally a pediatrician told us that our son had breath holding spells and as long as he didn't get hurt he would be fine. My mother-in- law says, oh yeah, my husband did the same thing when he was young. Anyway, it became so common and it became no big deal, Lol. Of course it was a very big deal at first and I always felt a little worried. My son is a healthy 23 years old now!. Watching this video brought the ordeal back and I understand the pain you feel. It will be okay. Maybe it is inherited? When you become grandparents don't forget to tell your kids if they experience the same thing.

    • @TheMooreTheMerrier

Oh Susan, that’s so horrible😢 I know your son is older now but it’s so sad that you had to go through that when he was younger. So horrible. Our doctors said he will be fine but he has passed out a couple times more since this vlog and it’s still scary. I keep telling myself that he will be fine if he passes out but the fear on his face breaks my heart. All I can do is hold him and try to calm him so he can relax and breath. Yes it’s crazy at how sometimes this horrible can become a weekly thing and not be such a big deal. I am hesitant to let someone babysit him because of it, it can be hard to see or handle for someone the first time. Actually my grandma said my dad would hold his breath too till he passed out. She said he did it on purpose when wanting to get his way. But it might have started as something he couldn’t control when younger. We try not to show too much attention when he gets in a fit, we don’t want it to end up being something he does for attention or to get what he wants. Parenting is definitely difficult but worth it for our kids!💛 Thank you for writing your experience, we can learn a lot from each other when opening up!

It Felt Like Someone Took Away My Brain I Didnt Cry I Just Looked I Felt Like I Was About To Die Once They Came White Stuff Came Out Of Her Throat. Turns Out They Just Gave Her A Gummy That Just Healed Her Xoxoxoxo (this was 2 or 1 year ago)

In situations like that when something happens out of our control, it comes as a shock to us all and we never know how we will react. So hard that your daughter had colic, poor darling. Glad to hear she's doing good now! My heart goes out to your 3 year old son at that time, he sounds like a caring brother worried about his sister. As a mother, my heart brakes for you and the panic you must have been feeling witnessing the scene unfold before you. That's awesome your husband knew CPR, and was quick to call the ambulance. Thank you for sharing Kayla! I'm sorry this happened to your niece and we totally understand why you get scared every time she cries. We went through the same thing. Our youngest son has started doing this too. If it seems like your niece is going into a breath holding spell lay her on the ground. We have found trying to pick up our child it makes it harder for them to breathe. So by laying them on the ground it helps them relax and remind yourself. As hard as it is to see her in that situation, it's a good thing to remind yourself - The worst thing that could happen is she'll pass out and come right back out of it
