    Tastefully done video.
    No robot voice.
    No intrusive music.
    No hideous thumbnail.
    Concise script.

Really appreciate that you don't add obnoxious "epic" music to your videos and opt for more ambient music to enhance the sense of "gazing into the past"

Something different on a UA-cam history channel? Actually a LOT right here. Dark maps with abstract materials and only the most pertinent details for one. Low volume ambient music aimed at deepening your attention without drawing attention to itself is another. And, finally, crisp writing delivered with voice actor quality speech. Oh, and supporting graphics moving in and out like thoughts. This is a triumph in so, so many ways. Outstanding! Brilliant actually.

This is a well-done, reasoned piece. It begins, however, with a mischaracterization of Herodotus’ reference to the Phoenicians’ origins. The narrator claims Herodotus believed that they had emigrated from southern Arabia (near present day Yemen) or East African coast (near present day Eritrea). Herodotus did NOT claim to believe that this origin story was true or likely correct. He merely relayed this theory in “The Histories,” while expressing his doubts of its validity.

There's a costal city in Oman called Sur which is famous for its ship building history, does that remind you of anything? Sur, is the same name of the most important kan'ani (Phoenician) city Sur (Tyre in English) and there has been some findings of kan'ani (Phoenician) script in Oman. I don't think that is a coincidence. The idea that Phoenicians came from Arabia isn't as hard to believe as you think.

🍌THE GOSPEL OF THE WORD OF ALMIGHTY GOD "the last age in which God is saving man from the imminent destruction of this old world"
(The transformation of a person's disposition is not a change of behavior, or a feigned external change or a temporary change produced by enthusiasm; rather, it is a real transformation of disposition that brings about a change in behavior. The transformation of disposition means that you have understood and experienced the truth, and that truth has become your life. Now that your disposition has changed, you not only understand the truth, but you also act on it. You are able to let go of the things you felt like doing the other day, the things you used to want to do, your mental images, and your perceptions. This is a transformation of disposition, and it is also the process of transforming your disposition. Such a person must also experience correction and chastisement, chastisement and judgment, and trials and refinement. Only after experiencing all this can a person partially understand his own nature. Although you have understanding, others cut you off and correct you and then force you and force you to act according to true principles. When will you be able to fulfill your duties in name and deed? This will require a process. In this process, you may suffer a lot. In this process, you will understand some things about yourself, and you will realize that you are very impure, harbor too many personal motives, and have too many desires while fulfilling your duties. Once you have understood the meaning of these things, you will be able to approach God in prayer and truly repent; in this way, you will be cleansed of impurities. The more one's corrupt disposition is refined, the more the disposition of their life will change.)
      Almighty God said
The TRANSFORMATION of a PERSON'S DISPOSITION is NOT a CHANGE of BEHAVIOR, or a FELT EXTERNAL CHANGE or TEMPORARY DIFFERENCE produced by enthusiasm; rather, it is a REAL CHANGE of DISPOSITION which CAUSES a CHANGE in BEHAVIOR. Such a change in behavior is not the same as changes manifested in a person's outward behaviors and actions. The TRANSFORMATION of the DISPOSITION MEANS that YOU have UNDERSTOOD and EXPERIENCED the TRUTH, and the TRUTH has BECOME YOUR LIFE.🌷
In the PAST, you UNDERSTOOD the TRUTH of this matter, BUT you did NOT put it into PRACTICE; the truth is only doctrine to you that is not practiced. NOW that your DISPOSITION has CHANGED, you not only UNDERSTAND the TRUTH, but you also ACT ACCORDING to IT. You are LETTING GO of the THINGS you LOVED to do back in the day, the things you used to want to do, your mental images, and your perceptions. 🙏🌷
You are now ABLE to GIVE UP THINGS that you COULDN'T GIVE UP back in the day. This is DISPOSITION TRANSFORMATION, and it is also the PROCESS of your DISPOSITION TRANSFORMATION.🌷
It may sound simple, but in REALITY, ANYONE in the MIDDLE of this PROCESS has to ENDURE a LOT of SUFFERING, OVERCOME their FLESH, and LEAVE the FLESH ASPECTS of NATURE. Such a person must also experience correction and chastisement, chastisement and judgment, and trials and refinement. 🙏☀️
Only AFTER EXPERIENCING ALL of this can a person partially understand his own nature.
HAVING a little UNDERSTANDING about it, however, does NOT mean IMMEDIATELY being able to CHANGE a PERSON; MAN must ENDURE SUFFERINGS in the PROCESS. 🙏
Also, can you immediately start practicing after gaining some understanding of something? You cannot immediately start a practice. Although you have understanding, others cut you off and correct you and then force you and force you to act according to true principles. Sometimes, people are not ready to go through it, saying, "Why can't I do it that way? Do I have to do it this way?" Others say, "If you believe in God, then you should do it this way is true."
WHEN people REACH a CERTAIN POINT where they have gone through SEVERAL TRIALS and ENDED up UNDERSTANDING WITH GOD'S will and some TRUTH, then they will be HAPPY no matter what and ready to act ACCORDING to TRUE PRINCIPLES. In the beginning, people were reluctant to practice the truth. Take conscientious fulfillment of duties as an example: You have a little understanding of fulfilling duties and being faithful to God, and you also understand the related truths, but when will you fully devote yourself to God? When will you be able to fulfill your duties in name and deed? This will require a process. In this process, you may suffer a lot. Some people may correct you, others may criticize you. All eyes will be on you, and only then will you begin to realize that you are in the wrong and that the truth is that you have done something bad, that the lack of devotion to fulfilling your duty is unacceptable, and you should not be rash and careless. The HOLY SPIRIT will ENLIGHTEN you FROM WITHIN, and rebuke you when you sin. ☀️🙏
If, in this way, you often seek the truth to solve your own practical problems, you will gradually tread the right path of faith. The MORE one's CORRUPT DISPOSITION is PURIFIED, the MORE the DISPOSITION of their LIFE will CHANGE. 🙏

Does anybody know much about the nation of Ebla? Their kingdom seems to have been north east of Phoenicia. I am wondering if Ebla ever occupied Phoenici, of vice versa? Info online is limited. As i understand Ebla was mainly destroyed by Hittites, perhaps thats why that area is marked as Hittite on this video? This content is fantastic and informative

Is the spelling Beirut as Beruit in this video intentional or not?
Other place names, like Tyre, appear to be the modern English version, so why is Beirut not spelled in the usual way?

I give you credit for doing something. And there's a couple of interesting bits of information in the video, but overall I hope this is not how the history of the Phoenicians is being taught in our universities, there or here. The quote by Aristotle was telling, and shows the corrupt techniques haven't changed much. Who knew what's going on in the western world today had its origins so far back. I bet they didn't call them ngos though. Also the point about the Phoenicians building and piloting and crewing the Persian ships is one that's often overlooked, and helps explain Alexander's wrath at the city not capitulating. He had pretty much had enough of that, much in the same way the Romans would deal with the thrice invading Carthaginians. Also I'm pretty sure the Greeks and Romans were pretty good at recognizing human sacrifice when they saw it and child sacrifice, and the archeology in this case as well as in Britain seems to be bearing out the veracity of their writings. No doubt they were a fascinating culture, hell bent on colonization and the use of proxy armies to do their killing. Their ambitions let them to invade and battle with the Greeks and Italians on their own shores for centuries, and eventually they just ran out of luck and people to die for them.

You got lots of missinformations in your post
      1. Persian fleet on mediterranean had 3 battle groups, one made of Phoenicians, other of Egyptians and third of Aegean Greeks.
Greeks cities in Asia minor were Persian allies and gave both land army (hoplites) and navies for the persian military machine
      2. Macedonians were also Persian allies during Greco-Persian wars. Macedonians conquered both Sparta and Athens, both Spartans and the Atheninians hated Alexander and didn't gave their armies to fight for Alexanders campaign.
Ancient world was centered around city states as political realities, not ethnic groups as we have today
      3. Romans practiced human sacrifices, see what happened after Cannae
      4. Italics and Greeks participated in Punic ethnogenesis, they immigrated to Carthage for centuries and assimilated themselves into Punics. After Roman conquest of Southern Italy mass of Brutinians fled to Carthage.
Hannibals army was made mostly of people from the Italian penisula, both Padanian Gauls and Italics, after Cannae almost all of southern Italy deflected to Hannibal. You re looking at the ancient world from a modern day perspective which is decieving.

@@ivandicivan4189 Well the funny thing is, I was actually doing the exact opposite and somehow you missed that. Most of the revisionism surrounding the Carthaginians is occuring in modern times. I never mentioned anything about their particular ethnicities, I'm quite aware that their general makeup was similar to other Mediterranean groups, Greco/Italic. You can look at Phoenician coffins and Roman busts of Hannibal Barca to see that with your own eyes. My observation that Alexander's anger at the Phoenicians for building the ships of his enemies must have been boiling stands. I'm well aware that the Persian navy and army in general was made up of many peoples most of whom joined either because they were conquered or the great fear of having their territories raped and destroyed. Including Greek polities. I never commented on the latter and the former is useful information you've added to what I said about the ships, but doesn't alter the veracity of my comment. Ethnogenesis? That sounds like you're the one confusing and transposing modern ideas on ancient ones. Italy was invaded and colonized for 700 years or more? And became the target of Alexander's generals after his death. They learned and then they got really really good at fighting back. You never hear much about the pre-roman invasions colonization and "ethnogenesis" in Italy. The Gauls came through and had a time long before Caesar took revenge. As for human sacrifice the majority of scholars agree that that was rarely ever practiced in any organized form by the Greeks or Romans, and the Romans in particular were completely against it as a society.

    • @ivandicivan4189
      @ivandicivan4189 Місяць тому

@@vincentcarrano5121 You claimed that alexander destroyed Tyre out of revenge, which makes no sense becuse during Greco-persian wars Macedonians were allies of Persia, and persian admiral was a king of Sidon. Phoenicians of Sidon were competitors of Tyrians and provided ships for Alexander during his siege of Tyre.
Italics were fighting each others for centuries and some of the fiercest wars Romans fought were against the Samnites.
Cisalpine Gauls have politically nothing to do with transalpine ones, and were assimilated by Romans anyway.
The fact that someone is Gaul, or Italic, or Numidian, or whatever, means little to nothing in political sense since ancient people lived in the city states and tribes which acted for their own interest, and there is where their allegiance lied, to the city state or tribe, not to the macro-group.
Romans scrificed vestal virgins after defeat at Cannae. It was a time of great desparation, you can compare that to similar cases in Carthage, like invasion of Agatocles for example-most of scholars who believe in existance of those sacrifices believe it was a practice which occured in times of a great crisis and not everyday practice.

I really like the narration and presentation style of this video and find the topic interesting, but I've made a point of not watching any educational videos that don't include full citations ever since I realized how many myths get spread around on UA-cam. I skimmed through the video enough to see that you include citations when quoting sources directly and for certain points, but I'd really encourage you to include a bibliography in the description (or a pinned comment or companion doc if the list is too long) and end of video as you do with music credits, if not on-screen citations throughout the entire video wherever you'd include a citation in an essay (which I'm starting to include in my own videos); it's not a huge additional effort to create a list of the sources you use during the research process (and in-text citations only take slightly more effort than that), and is super important not only to avoid plagiarism, but also for maintaining a chain of sources so that people can trace where claims originally came from if they want to (which is also why in-text citations are better, since people can check specific claims, but even a simple bibliography is better than nothing). I'm subscribing, I really hope to see a bibliography in your next video!

Pertaining to himan sacrifice, archeological evidence does show that the Phoenicians did in fact practice himan sacrifice. One specific deity (Murdok) and other Baal forms of worship required such practice. When Carthage was besieged, there were over hundreds of child sacrifices made to support the war. The remains are still there. Also littered across the canaan land are evidence of such practice. The archetecture of the sacrifical altars of some also points out that live child sacrifices were used to produce certain sounds.
It is indeed a greusome part of history
