Don't skip ahead, watch them all in order. Karls diary becomes a weekly thing like monkey news. This show is taken from the hundreds of hours of podcasts and condensed into 22 minutes, these podcasts are 20 years ago up to around 2010. The actual podcasts are comedy gold but the animation in this show adds to them. The banter between all 3 is great and Steve and karl have loads of fights verbally over the years. These podcasts broke world records in downloads.
It really was the first mainstream comedy podcast and one of the first podcasts of any genre. It began in 2005, so 14 years ago rather than 20 but Ricky and Steve originally worked with Karl at XFM starting late in 2001, so they were pretty familiar to XFM listeners in London (and around the UK for those who tuned in via Sky TV) by 2005. Then they went on to record a series of Audiobooks which was really just the easiest way to monetise audio content back then. Those covered a different general topic each time such as Law and Order, Medicine, History, the Arts, etc. All are outstanding and well worth reacting to. Then HBO animated edited version of the podcasts and then went on to animate the audiobooks. HBO did a great job but it’s funny how many little things they got wrong. HBO’s concept of the snack “Munchies” are very different to the Munchies chocolates Karl was referring to. Their XFM shows are easy to find on YT and are hilarious and were the original location for Monkey News and Rockbusters and White Van Karl.
There are hundreds of hours of the radio show from xfm but there arent hundreds of hours of the podcasts, although the podcasts are on average 10 minutes longer than the animated version as they cut things out, probably around 25 hours of podcast content
I was listening to this with my headphones while doing some knitting. Your laughter does add more dimension to this video. That's nice. I laughed alone and my family just stared at me.
I don't think Ricky and Steve get enough credit for what they've done. Created The Office, Extras and this podcast, three of the greatest comedy creations ever
3:20 This show (animation) uses the audio from the original podcasts, which started in 2005. The Benjamin Button movie was 2008, but was based on a book written in the 1920s
Absolutely love Karl. It’s the innocence and how unaware he is of his comedic timing which always makes it 10x funnier. You should check out some of the old XFM tapes on a live stream one day ✌🏼
I now cant wait for these Ricky gervais shows uploads. I've watched em all and have no one really to share laughs with cause my friends r dolts who dont get it n rather watch shit fast n furious movies lol. Ur laugh and Ricky's literally make my day lol.
this is brilliant. you have Karl say something stupid and hilarious, then Ricky bursts out laughing with his infectious laugh, then Josh bursts out laughing with his infectious laugh too! it's all too funny, im dying man
Yeah, watch it through, don't skip ahead. Nice react vid, seeing you watch it for the first time is really enjoyable! I've seen this show countless times already, but watching your reactions to it adds some freshness to this gem of a show. Keep posting!
DO NOT SKIP! Whoever recommends you skip ahead can't be a proper fan, each episode is good (as you are finding out) and as you say they always refer to older episodes you could have missed. This series is saving my quarantine so keep up the good work!
Amazing as always, your my favorite dude for doing this reaction series with the Ricky Gervais Show :D And yes, I also recommend to watch them all in order, it will be a lot of gold material from the diary later on in the show
He definitly said it years before benjamin button movie, because I remember laughing when i saw the trailer for that movie and thinking somebody must have been listening to Ricky's podcast

Somehow this show passed me by , and I’m loving watching it for the first time with you . Your laugh makes it even better , so I don’t want to skip ahead myself 😂🏴
The Ricky Gervais show & Karl Pilkington in general made me laugh harder than anything over the years i love this show so much something about the 3 of them is just perfect im glad you get it, for us in the UK its comedy gold and you have 3 Season to watch
Haha I love your reactions. I've been listening to Ricky, Steve and Karl since their XFM days in 2008. It's gotten me through some tough times honestly. Nothing makes me laugh like listening to these 3. And yes he came up with this before the Banjamin Button movie.
Love these reaction videos. They get better and better as the episodes go on and he comes up with more and more ingenious ideas haha!! Keep up the amazing work!
I say, watch them in order. They definitely get better (I know, doesn’t seem possible) but they’re all really good. Also, I believe Benjamin Button was a book that was made into a movie.
Been waiting for a good reaction video to this series, no one gets the humour but you do. Like someone said below it makes you feel like you are watching the show with a friend and they actually like it. Please do every episode in order, don't skip any. Enjoy!
As far as I know "waste not, want not" isn't attributed to Franklin. However, the very similar proverb, "a penny saved, is a penny earned" is often attributed to Franklin.
I’ve been listening to this trio since 2009 Their podcasts are great, but their radio show on XFM (where they met Karl, who was their producer) is the absolute best because they’re live. Ricky was constantly telling Karl, “You’re an idiot. Play a record.” The radio shows are HYSTERICAL!
Great reaction man ! Cant fault any part of it 🔥👊🏽 Also, these podcasts were filmed 3 years before Benjamin button so I'm sure Karl hadn't heard of it... But the book the movie was based on was written in the 1920s or 1930s
