Great collection Jackie! I have some of them and will be doing the colour along when I get some time. Thank you for sharing your wonderfully coloured pages. 💜💙💚💛🧡
It was great to see all your RJ pages together like that. It gave me a real hankering for doing some of his pages again. And you have so many great ideas here. I should really practice with aged metals, I tend to automatically colour mine kinda shiny and your method gives so much more depth and interest
I’m glad to be able to give you something different to consider ❤️ rusty, aged things are interesting (and easier I think) Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
I really love you show the pages that didn’t turn out the way you planned. It makes us all remember we are human and they are only colouring books and that we can learn from them. Take the positive, the things you like and put that in the next one. Thankyou for showing your RJ books. I had no idea you’d finished so many! Fabulous, beautiful collection of pages. I’m looking forward to seeing more ❤❤❤
I’ve become an RJ “tragic” 😁 Yes, I do feel it’s really important to show the less than desirable outcomes for two reasons - it’s good to be critical as long as it is constructive, because we learn a great deal from what we don’t like as much as we do like (I learned that through art studies!), the “why” is very important. And secondly, it encourages others to take some risks and not be embarrassed to fail. Playing safe doesn’t allow us to explore our true potential ❤️ Thanks for watching!
So encouraging watching your videos. Your approach to coloring is a refreshing change in that it is relaxed, realistic & something attainable to those of us who don't have a ton of time to devote to coloring a single page for an entire month using a million pencils and layers. Thank you for sharing your work.
I’m glad you are enjoying the videos, there’s a time and place for everything and I’d really like to encourage those who aren’t able to devote lots of time (or just don’t want to) that you can still get enjoyment and good results out of quick methods. Happy colouring! 😊
Yeah, that yellowing is really an awful issue….I might do a video recapping how I deal with that. I am a big RJ tragic errr fan! but I do like supporting a fellow Aussie and I just love the humorous style of illustration. It kind of reminds me of being a kid and reading the comics in the Sunday newspaper ❤️ Nostalgia is a great selling point! Thanks for watching!
I really love all of the pages you’ve coloured in these books 😍 what you said about colouring it in a children’s picture book style really comes through and I love it! ❤️❤️
Thanks so much 😊 I enjoy trying to match the feel of the drawing style if I can….I noticed a while back that I seemed to colour everything the same way so I am trying to be conscious of trying new things - but of course, it’s easy to fall back into our own natural style and what feels comfortable 😉 Thanks for watching Jess.
I just love his illustrations. They are the perfect balance between simple and detailed, and there is always something on the page that makes me laugh.. like when I realized Mr. Fogherty (still think he should be Mr. Frogerty) named his boat the Fromage.. which is just so typical as it sounds fancy but actually means "cheese" lol. I'm kind if in a bind with him right now though. I have Forest Song, and have done one page, it's lovely and I enjoyed it.. but then he started releasing the hardcovers with thicker paper.. and THEN he started republishing the paperbacks with new pages. I like to spiral bind all my books.. I started with some that were falling apart (Bassford, Mythographic) and loved the result so much I did my entire collection and currently spiral every new book I buy. It's so nice being able to lay the book completely flat, flip it around so I only have the single page on my lap without the rest of the book flopping around, and not having to worry about anything falling out or the spine being damaged. Obviously can't do that with a hardcover... but thicker paper is a huge benefit. Unfortunately the paper isn't "that" thick.. and they are close to $20 each here for 25 pages.. ouch. Not a fan of the double pages in the paperbacks, I never recolor anything.. so even the small changes do help, especially the black backgrounds, meaning I may actually want to finish the book... but the Amazon paper and printing is inferior especially here in the US, we have some of the worst Amazon printing in the world. So now I don't want to color more pages in the one I have.. but don't know which of the others to buy lolol. Meanwhile he keeps coming out with new books.. which is great but there are so many to choose from. I've been like "this is too much anxiety" lol and just coloring in other books.
Yes, RJ Hampson books have a lot of humorous touches which often make me laugh 😁 I haven’t gone down the hardcover route yet, fortunately the Australian Amazon paper can be worked with pretty well and the extra cost of the hardcover doesn’t seem an adequate trade off for me personally. I own some other books that are US Amazon paper and it’s really unworkable - even coloured pencils don’t work well on them and it’s an exercise in frustration not enjoyment. Are you able to have images printed onto better paper? That might be an option - although if you are like me, I’d much rather work in a book. I hope you can find a compromise 🤞
Beautiful colouring pages hun Rj is an amazing person to talk too he sent me a signed copy of his book I was blessed.. with the yellowing I heard they keep yellowing.. it’s horrible I’m actually worried about those markers I have the same markers u have mentioned.. I gave my markers I got from Officeworks to my son it’s their brand name I was worried it would yellow.. thanks for sharing ❤❤❤😊😊😊xxx
The yellowing alcohol markers are just so disappointing, and yes - the Officeworks Born markers have been one of the worst! I might make another video talking about the issue and how I get around it…..it’s awful to think we have spent money in good faith to then just give away stuff ☹️ Russell is so nice interacting with us on Instagram and social networks - how nice to have a signed book! Thanks for watching and your comments, your support is really appreciated. Happy colouring! Jackie
No, I don’t but Saffire_colours here on UA-cam does. ua-cam.com/video/UOYBlFP8hwI/v-deo.htmlsi=711uJ2VCemXVJDxY I tried it after watching her video. I think if you search “coffee splash art” or similar you should find a few different videos.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Keeping in mind that I have Amazon Australia printed books, most pencils work okay in these books. I’ve used budget Crayola and Staedtler pencils in them right through to Polychromos with no issues. If in doubt, test your pencils on one of the intro pages or at the back. Have fun! 😊
May I know which brand of alcohol markers causes the yellowing? I have my Ohuhus and it makes me wonder if it's even worth using if it'll yellow the other pages too
It wasn’t Ohuhu - they have been fine so far, it was a couple of cheap brands - one sold here in Australia by Officeworks (Born I think they were called) and the others were one of those generic types sold really cheap on Amazon. I’ve also had permanent markers by Shuttle art yellow. If you check out Lily @artjourney, she has done some good tests on alcohol markers that yellow. But if in doubt, use them but put a few sheets of paper either side or try the plastic sleeve trick that I use 👍
I've had Ohuhus for almost three years and they have never yellowed. I also have a big set of Bianyo markers (recommended by The Frugal Crafter as a decent budget set) that didn't yellow, although I don't recommend them 100%, they don't lay down as smooth as the Ohuhu and I don't care for the color selection either, nowhere near enough light colors.. Ohuhu has tons of pastels. They WERE cheap though for a big set in a nice carry case, if I remember right it was like $70 usd for 180 markers, and they are usable.. chisel/fine tips. I was going to rehome them but my daughter asked to keep them. I've also done a tiny bit of work in Sharpie/Bic Intensity markers, and while I can't deal with the smell long term they didn't yellow either. You can often get them very cheap at "back to school" sales. I've been lucky, I would be sooo unhappy if that yellowing had happened to one of my books. I'd have tossed the offending markers straight in the trash after blasting the net with photos of my poor books to warn others to stay away. It takes me a week or more to finish a page so it's quite an investment of time and energy, not to mention money.
Yes, it’s interesting how our preferences change, I used to only use pencils for a long time and labour over every page. Now I enjoy the fast and furious approach 🤣 thanks for watching and commenting 😊
Hello Jackie. Such beautiful pages .I love love your collection . 💐💐💐

I discovered your channel today. I love the steampunk books. I never heard of colouring with coffee. 😮 Do you have a video for that? 👍

Your colorings are so inspiring! I order a couple of his books for the first time. What pencils work best for you in his books? TFS!

@@waymire01 that at least gives me peace of mind. Thanks for your input!
I agree with markers being faster and easier. When i color a page with only pencils it feels so slow and tedius 😂
