PSA for anyone watching this and wanting to try the tanghulu: do NOT do it in the microwave, no matter how many tiktokers you see doing it like that, and even on the stove you have to be very careful because molten sugar is like 3x hotter than boiling water! Always happy to see another upload from you Rae, take care!
It's not exactly that it's dangerous is that it's very hard to control you can go from not hot enough to burn very quickly and it can explode you also don't want to use a frying pan you want a saucepan or a special candy pot because they're narrow and tall how to get fewer splatters
Ikr I was at my friend’s house and they got some fruit and they opened it and they didn’t wash it and she asked me if I wanted a piece and I was like are you gonna wash it and they thought I was crazy and said that it was clean and it was from the grocery store so it was fine I did not eat any 😖
the fruit roll up ice cream is wayyy better if you dont freeze it! the humidity in the freezer is what made it sticky but if you eat it right away, it's slightly crunchy and slightly normal/chewy and it's so good. the ice cream is enough to get it to shatter the way you want
The tangulu one came up and i had REAL FEAR that you were gonna do the microwave one that has sent so many people to the ER. Forgot I was watching someone who has a brain lol
Hey Rae, just to let you know, in order to get the hard crack sugar, your sugar has to reach 185*C. Or something like that, I havent made in a long time and im not looking up a recipe for this comment. but if you google it there is a certain temp it has to reach before it will completely harden.
For anyone wanting to try this, you want the sugar to reach 300-310*F or 146-155*C. It's called the hard crack stage. If the temperature doesn't hit this stage, the syrup won't form a hard shell once cooled.
Omg! The youtubers that use food gadgets without washing them! 🤢 I thought I was the weird one for finding it disgusting. I once saw a girl try reusable menstrual pads without washing them first and I got an UTI just by watching her 🤐
Your sugar-water mixture wasn't hot enough. Need you a candy thermometer! It's not necessarily that your ratio was wrong, it's just not going to harden unless it gets to the "hard crack" temperature range.
You DONT dip your coated grapes in ice water. Ugh people are so dumb sometimes! When you cook sugar and water, at the temp increases you reach different “stages”. Soft ball, hard ball, soft crack, hard crack, etc. Using a candy thermometer is the most precise and easiest way to know what stage you’ve reached. If you don’t have a thermometer you can test the hardening stage by dripping some of the hot syrup into a cup of ice water and seeing how firm it sets. It helps you understand what stage the syrup has reached. You DONT use ice water to harden your end product. If you’ve heated your syrup to the proper hard crack temp range, it sets hard ON ITS OWN. As it should. Ice water can’t make not-hot-enough syrup set to a hard crack. It MUST be heated to the right temperature which she didn’t do.
You can buy msg from an Asian market, but you can also purchase mushroom extract powder from Trader Joe’s. There are tons of available in person places to get msg type products.
MSG can be bought at any grocery store! Go in and ask for "Accent powder", it's long been the secret ingredient to many a grandmother's gravy in the USA lol
@@RaeDizzleExtras Use sparingly in conjunction with salt because they strengthen each other! Also if you've ever tried to make Chinese food at home and were like "well it's GOOD but it's just missing that something something", the Accent powder is that something something lol. If you want it cheaper, Asian markets will usually sell MSG under the brand Ajinomoto, big clear bag full of white powder with the big red AJINOMOTO logo on it XD
I love this! I see the same foods on UA-cam foodie channels but I'm always curious what just a regular person thinks. And how easy these really are to make! Love you! Love this!
When I saw the title of this video, I literally got so happy that I cannot actually explain. Food is my favourite subject on UA-cam and Rae is my favourite person on UA-cam but combine? It's straight up heaven ✨ I wasn't expecting this at all but am I complaining? Not at all ✨🎀
12:49 Instead of puncturing the tube, slam the seam against the edge of a countertop. That works for me and because I'm already bashing the tube it doesn't startle me.
If you don’t have a candy thermometer and you want to make tanghulu get a bit of the sugar on a skewer and dip it in cold water. If it’s hard like glass when you take it out then it’s crack hard and you can start dipping your fruit, if not the just let it keep going. Also I recommend not actually dipping the fruit into water after it’s coated in sugar unless you’re going to eat it right away. The water will eat through the sugar otherwise and make it sticky
Don’t put the fruit roll up/ice cream in the freezer. I’ve made those and if you eat them right away they’re not sticky and soggy, they’re crunchy and yummy.
Hii Rae! Ilu so much, been watching you for a very long time. Seriously you slay in every video! Keep slaying girl!! If you dont mind i kinda wanna know the story of you and zach. Like how u guys met and all. You guys seriously look so cute together. God bless you guys. Obviously if you dont mind. I totally agree if you wanna keep it to yourself. But just a side thought you know. Btw the tangulu makes an amazing candy and as satisfying as shown in the video. You just need to measure the water and the sugar properly.
For tanghulu I use the microwave although it’s more dangerous, the way I test if the sugar is ready is with a spoon and if it’s crunchy after I ice it it’s ready
lifehack: if you hate those pop dough packages bang it on the counter to pop it, you are already expecting the loud sound because you are banging it and it opens everytime
Walgreens has peelable candy for $2 yet i paid $9 for freeze dried Skittles so yeah $8 for candy is highway robbery. I did like the butter candle though. Eating soot is no different than scorching the marshmallow of a smore.
Usually when someone’s channel or tik Tok is only one product I get very suspicious. Candy with sugar on it is also a fun snack from England, or more specifically an english kids book, candied nuts and fruit, Redwall. I made candied chestnuts and I died they were so good 🤤🤤
Candy with sugar on it? :) Also I absolutely loved the Redwall series when i was young. I had quite a few Redwall books in my bookshelf and was always looking for more at the library. The food and drinks in those books always sounded so good.
You just need to make sure that you heat your sugar too hard crack before you dip your fruit into it. If you don't make sure it reaches hard crack temperature, you will not get the satisfying crunchiness. Meaning you have to use a thermometer for this recipe.
Ngl, I don't really get the hype over the peelable candies. They kind weird me out to watch them being peeled and even non-melted ones just look so sticky to handle 😅

@@liwiathan ...So yes it is dangerous, lol. Also it can melt through some dishes! Bad bad idea.
@@Spidertheidiot yep it can melt pretty much any plastic and shatter glass because of temperature shock! Just don't do it in the microwave!
Also, DON'T DIP IT IN WATER!
