    Urk! For 300 or almost 400 eros you could part together a manual stand up desk and then you could set your desk really low to use the sticks at a more ergo level and then youd have a desk you can adjust anytime to your needs as well as less wiring hassel.

    This is a cool set up. I know because I’ve been running a DIY version of this for the past year. I used monitor pole mount plates on both sides of my chair. The clamps designed to fit a pole of some kind can be forced to fit your arm rest. Once in place I put industrial Velcro on the plates and the bottoms of my Hotas to attach. For cable management I simply used duct tape and zip ties to route the wires underneath the chair and used a usb hub I got from amazon for like $10. $40 is outrageous. The mounts I used were $60 apiece. So my DIY system costs under $150 and, aside from the admittedly cool idea of a quick release system, is basically the same thing here. Furthermore if your computer case is easily accessible then you can unplug your usb 3 extension from the pc and wrap it around your Hotas when not in use. So there would be zero wires restricting your movement.

    For my DIY seat I used scrap 1/8” Baltic birch plywood to make two mounts clamped to the inside round arms of my office chair vertically. These extend past the front of the arms where I dadoed them into a 5/8” base for each Hotas, with a few vertical struts for strength. I added a touchpad mount on the right side for cockpit mouse controls (don’t have to lean forward). Total cost was scrap plywood, glue, paint, and some stickers for character (they looked like the tips of propellers in shape so I turned one into a P-51 prop replica). All cables are routed under the chair (with USB splitter mounted underneath) and terminate with a single cable on one side so I can exit the other side. Can’t post a photo here but would love to send one to Reapers for comparison review!

    I just use a lower table and ripped the arms off my chair so I can sit closer. It was free.

    • @CakePrincessCelestia
      @CakePrincessCelestia 4 роки тому

      I never mounted the arms in the first place... I could set up some old CS-601 cases (the best I ever had, and they've got the perfect size for this plus I can move them out of the way if needed) next to my chair and put any controller on them, including my trusty old FFB2.

    I just have the chair throttle mount which didn't break the bank. I've been trying to hack together a DIY chair mount for years and have spent more cash on failed half-measures than I ever did on the monster tech. Solid product.

    I bought the desk mounts from them a while ago for my Warthog. Great quality as well. But be mindful that you need a solid table top for them, because I just bought an Ikea desk and the table top doesn't like the weight of the Warthog at all... You will need a solid table top made out of real wood, or denser plywood.

    Great honest review. Very very good video, well done and thank you. It is a very expensive price for a way to bolt the WH to the chair, but I can see from your video there wasn't too much wiggle, it looked pretty solid when you moved the controls.

    Got the deskmounts for my hotas from them last year. Expensive but wonderful stuff. Though its also really annoying to reconnect the usbs when I re-mount them on the table. :D Also my old style vkb throttle is probably on the heavier side for its mount.. My biggest problem though is always the trackir cable getting stuck on the throttle or interfering with the keyboard.

  • @jimbofergus

    You wouldn't want the stick positioning to be in between the knees like a real aircraft? I guess that would make mobility a bit of a pain to get in and out of the chair, but not too much.

    • @Paroxsym-OX
      @Paroxsym-OX 4 роки тому +1

      Not all are like that, the F-16 being a notable exception to the common center-stick configuration. The rest of the planes we have in DCS are centersticks, yes, but it seems the side stick is becoming more common (F-35 for example being a side-sticker)

    Hey! Thanks for your review, really useful :)! I have two questions, would you mind sharing your thoughts?
    1. Why did you decide to go chair mount and not table mount?
    2. Does the fact that the chair can turn during flight, take away any immersiveness if you would compare it to al static table mount?
    Thanks in advance!

    • @jackhaffenhoff1365
      @jackhaffenhoff1365 4 роки тому +1

      Hi,
      1. I thought the desk mounts would be more annoying with the chair swivelling. I am still interested in trying those out too for a comparison. An advantage of the desk mounts is I believe they come with a qr lever built in via default, making it easier to store them.
      2. I thought the chair swivelling might be irritating, but I don't really notice it. It does make it difficult to get myself centered for my head tracking. Once I'm flying my feet are on the floor or pedals which usually keeps me pretty stable.

  • @projectgoatse

    These look great but the price needs to be cut in half. We’re paying for like $20 worth of materials, maybe 80 man hours of 3D design and testing of the product and the rest is pure profit to the company.

    • @projectgoatse
      @projectgoatse 4 роки тому +1

      @Rick O'Shay I prefer to call it sucker-based pricing. The cost of entry for DCS is high enough as it is. And while I realize that the demographic that DCS attracts tends to be mostly males in their 30s-50s who generally have higher incomes, we're literally talking over $400 for sheets of metal with holes in them and some bolts that anyone could get at the hardware store. Just saying.

      Rick O'Shay you seem to be exceptionally triggered by my responses. What skin do you have in this game? Do you work for the company that makes this stuff or something? Because I can’t imagine anyone else defending the cost of this to the lengths you are.
