As far as being a technician goes, he’s fabulous. As far as musicality (at least with this selection), not so much. And he must’ve had a memory slip or something, as he completely replaced the ending recap with the opening material. Not what’s in the score whatsoever.
I think some pianists cop out here and use that instead. I have heard at least one other recording that does this instead of the chords alternating between the hands.
@@rickrobertsoncollection5320 That's weird, lol. Maybe because it is challenging, which would then ironically circle back to the whole technician thing. Personally, I think it doesn't help that that tempo is way too fast to execute the alternating chords effectively haha.
Not wowed by this at all. Terrible interpretation and poor understanding of the music. Is this music just about speed? Absolutely not. This last movt of the sonata is a dance, rich in latin flavour and strong latin beat and rhythm, crucial qualities that are lacking in his playing. Where is the dance? Where is the latin beat and lilt in it? If it’s just to dazzle and show how fast he could play, he did that. But how good is that when there’s no music in it? It’s empty display. Despite the extreme speed, it wasn’t even close to being truly exciting when it’s played properly.
The quality of the interpretation is up to the listener, so it is foolish to say it's bad in itself, yet your explanation is totally accurate and I appreciate that there are more people who don't give a piece it's value only by complexity and high tempo.
The best pianist in his generation!
Heard it played live last weekend! He was awesome! Incredible program.
AWESOME - GREAT - BRILLIANT
Powerful playing! I love this sonata from Ginastera, it needs more attention.
An absolute rock star
😱 Fabulous!

Agreed
He played differently from the score.
So not good
