  • Have you ever wondered what life is like for an aid worker in a Sudanese refugee camp? Toads and scorpions are just the beginning.
Catch a glimpse of life in a humanitarian field camp that helps care for 20,000 Sudanese refugees.
    • The shower is a bucket of water.
    • everyone eats off of the same plate.
    • There are only six ingredients available in the local market.
    • The latrine is a hole in the ground.
    • And toilet paper is 400 miles away.
    • You do your laundry in a wheelbarrow.
But despite the hardship - or perhaps because of it - when a long awaited soccer ball arrives in one of the shipments, everyone has the time of their lives.

I find it quite brave of you to wack a scorpion with flip flops on. I'm not always the bravest when it comes to bugs/insects, and so if any little thing were to climb it's way onto my toes while I'm occupied with another insect, I would jump out of my seat and yelp for help 😅. We're talking I can't even comfortably swim in my local state park lake in the far end where the long, seaweed like greeny plants grow because I'm afraid of the gooey feeling when they rub against my leg. It unsettles me, lol. But I digress. When I viewed the clip of you sleeping outside by the tree due to the heat, it made me wonder if you had to deal with insects still while you slept, or take any precautions to keep them off or away, because I'm aware of putting cotton balls in one's ears to keep things from laying eggs in your ear 😖.

Thank you, Star Power! I never had any problems with insects at night (and I think the odds of a bug climbing into your ear while you sleep are negligible). It is however a very conservative part of the world and women normally don't sleep outside so I wore long pants under a long dress just to make sure I didn't inadvertently show any skin.

1:10 They're laughing at that lady for eating with her hands. Ungrateful savages.

:) I'm the lady and they're really not laughing at me. They're all listening to the radio and the announcer just said something funny. If the meal wasn't noodles or rice (stuff that falls apart) we all usually ate with our hands out of a common plate. The only reason I was the only one without cutlery was because I had to set up the camera and they ran out of spoons!

@@OurHumanPlanet With all due respect I think you were a fool for helping them and no one will convince me otherwise that they were laughing at you for not having a spoon. Ingrates!!!! Bless your heart though.

@@winstonwillhelm Well, if you are unwilling to open your mind and imagine other explanations and possibilities, i have to say becareful out there. Your mind will work against you. For your sake, exercise looking at things from multiple point of views before being set on something.
