He had a real girt for painting the nightmarish and the the banal into dead-pan scenes that sound like a cross between Raymond Chandler and H.P. Lovecraft. He presages Hunter S. Thompson by a generation. Wish I could have met him and just listened to him for a while. Amazing. Thanks for the upload.

Jr Alana Yes, same here. It is my belief that addiction is the Rosetta Stone for fully feeling at home in the turbulent waters of Naked Lunch. Not saying they don't exist, but I have never encountered a "civilian" that read NL and dug it. On any comment section of a Burroughs video, the vast majority are addicts, recovering or otherwise.
I have gotten flack for that view but it's fairly evident...and why not? Peace!
PS---I'm putting you down for additional medication, son."

@@jan_Travis I don't know why I never saw your comment, but I'd like to respond now.
First; So glad you don't do drugs. It's a short "honeymoon" period then it's servitude from then on out. If you don't get the bread for that next bundle, you will feel the junkie equivalent of the Plantation owner's whip---you are in every way a slave to junk.
Secondly, so glad when I come across a person who gets it without having the "experience" and inside knowledge the addict possesses.
      Stay well, my friend.

@@1060michaelg - I was only sixteen when I came across it and had little experience of anything in life at that tender age. Shit happens...I suppose. I managed to avoid being sucked into a whirlpool of petty theft by sticking mostly to methadone and pills once I was hooked. I'd still score junk if I had the money but was I f*ck going out shoplifting or any of that embarrassingly lame stuff. Thank heavens for the NHS and prescription opioids or I'd probably be dead...

The only thing that gives me this vibe is William Gibson who has said that he considered Burroughs the biggest influence on him. Seriously tho there’s parts of Neuromancer that approach this it’s wild
