This is my favorite SOUND from blink 182. I enjoyed their early albums with the joke titles, but for me, THIS is where they developed their sound into something that was incredibly unique while still keeping a punk rock vibe. So original and awesome.
+dadadruma yeah they needed to make another album sooner after self titled. this stuff was a phenomenon at the time.. as was enema when it came out with the lighter fun side.. but we got a continuation with TOYPAJ.. we never got a continuation of self titled sound.. which is a shame. California seems like another fun TOYPAJ but more modern version, which is cool, has me excited, but I'll never accept we didn't get any more self titled peak sound...
AirCanada1J5 I TOTALLY agree with you 10000% Perfect analogy on how exactly I look at it as well =) The self titled album will stand the test of times with ease its production was above every thing else over the last 15 years hands down
Tom's quote:"There's a time in your life where you're not quite sure where you are. You think everything's perfect, but it's NOT perfect... Then one day you wake up and you can't quite picture yourself in the situation you're in. But the secret is, if you can picture yourself doing anything in life, you can do it" tnx for helping me a lot
This might be my favorite song of all time. The lyrics are so full of imagery, and the diction/syntax is incredible. You get what they're talking about even if you don't know what they're talking about. And the sounds are so unique-the echoes, the isolated drum and guitar intros, and Tom's voice before it died is so, so great. Plus Mark's spooky-sounding layered vocal on top of Tom's creates such an interesting sound. I love this song. Prime blink.
@@Ukraineaissance2014 Nope. It's about a scenario of a woman in a club captivating everyone around her, to the point where the narrator falls unhappily in love with her and descends into alcoholism to numb the pain of not being able to be with her.
@@alvifani The Beach Boys were just very, very, very much into vocal harmonies, and in the second+last chorus of this song there's vocal harmony. An even better example is the outro of Feeling this.
Blink was making such great music before they broke up. Really changed their sound for this cd and it was still awesome. I hope they can get back to this!
Billy Bisk, you may dislike Matt Skiba being part of Blink 182, but that doesn't mean Matt sucks. Alkaline Trio is a testament to just how good Matt Skiba is. If anything, I am more concerned about the affect Blink 182 will have on Matt Skiba and Alkaline Trio. I am a huge fan of both bands, but Alkaline Trio is more creative and poetic with their lyrics. Blink is more simplistic and catchy/popish.
I fucking love blink. 8 years on and I can still listen to this album and enjoy as much as when I first heard it. Thank God these guys got back together.
this is what cemented blink's greatness in my books. this whole album, especially this track, proved to all the haters that blink-182 was so much more than a "one-trick pony" or a "gimmick". they fused so many genres and backgrounds together effortlessly and made it sound so distinctly blink. no one writes music like blink-182, and in my opinion, if you were born in 1990 or later, they're one of our generations greatest bands.
sheesh i sound really old for saying this, but this song takes me back to my middle school days because it was all i listened to, and the rest of the album. no matter how many times i listen to it the 2:05 section of the song always gets to me :')
I am so happy this album came out when I was 17. It's all I listened to for a long time, and got me into The Cure even more than I was. This is peak Blink IMO.
The older I get, the more I enjoy this entire album. When before I simply listened to music and lyrics seperated, now I can respect how the music symbolizes the ambiente of the lyrics! A new album from blink would be really interesting, considering that they could either mix up AVA und Plus 44 styles, or start something completely different! I hope it happens some time this year!
A certain look in your eyes When you open your eyes who'll stand by your side So watch my eyes, watch them turn while you go change Curtains down when all there skin was cut and i bled There were forces of John Joes I can't make you happy It seems, all i ever do is try You could never cut me deep enough to leave a scar So take this gift its something to save
theyre not like actual music videos, for this album they just wanted to put some visuals to a few of the songs and just put them into a compilation which you dont actually see here on youtube
Actually it is a real video, it came as a bonus video with the special edition cd copies as limited release back in 2003. It's the same set, I guess just because they got lazy with videos on their eponymous (self-titled) album and just really liked that spot.
Tbh in my opinion this song is about depression. The lyrics are "Like violence, you have me forever and after...". Depression can do violent things and it can stay with you forever. And they also say "Like violence, you kill me forever and after.." I think they were saying how many people kill themselves over depression everyday and it will always be like that. And 2.05 to 2.50, Tom was showing how sad it is to have depression. That,s why there's the soft drumming in the back and Tom's face looking sad.
In the booklet that comes with an album tom talks about how the song is based upon a woman that comes into a bar and everybody looks at her, he was saying it was based on that atmosphere.
okay.. if it took me this many years to hear this something is wrong or i hear better when i am drinking but from 2:28 - 2:45 you can hear a guying talking behind everything o: almost sounds like some chant o: what is being said?
i used to skip this song when i listened to the album years ago(didn't like the beginning), and then i think yesterday i heard the chorus part.. and now i'm here
It’s called “Walla”, it’s usually the lyrics that are spoken. But it sounds like he was saying a poem or vows. I can’t find what mark is saying in any lyric sheets.
Haven't heard this song until recently, which is weird because I used to own almost all the albums from Blink 182... Now that I've heard this song, I love it. XD I can't get it out of my head.
Can't fucking wait to see these guys at Leeds Fest, been a fan for years and years, but never once did i see them live, it's gonna be fucking incredible, this album has been played on repeat for over a week now, can't get enough of it...
This is my favorite SOUND from blink 182. I enjoyed their early albums with the joke titles, but for me, THIS is where they developed their sound into something that was incredibly unique while still keeping a punk rock vibe. So original and awesome.

***** AMEN BUDDY
+HALFTHEMIKE This was Blink Peaking and how disappointing it was they never reached this level of greatness again. Till Now ( I Hope)

= reason why i like Boxcar racer so much!
Hes said what the lyrics are about before about- sexual violence against women.

@@newmystery7753 It's a good album, but I don't find myself going to listen to it a lot.
This is the best Blink 182 ever, love this and remind me nice times
I was like 13, and I had this whole untitled album playing on DVD when I got my first ever hand job B)

Love blink 182. It's the best band !
Probably the best bittersweet song ever. Followed by watch the world and miss you.
one of the best songs ever! I heard it for the first time when I was 13 now i'm 26. so many memories..
this song is a reason blink is one of the best rock bands ever, what other fucking song sounds like this shit
well california is shit.
Or maybe you're shit
Matt Skiba is shit
california is nice. and top seller too

I swear to GOD, for the past 16 years, I thought the lyrics were “Like Fire Ants you kill me, forever and after,” I feel low key betrayed.
Did...did you think the title was also Fire Ants?
I fucking love blink. 8 years on and I can still listen to this album and enjoy as much as when I first heard it. Thank God these guys got back together.
lol this aged well.
damn....that verse..... i love it so much
I've been listening to this song for almost ten years and just realized how awesome it really is.
Mark in this video is incredibly creepy
yet awesome.

i miss you guys so much! my childhood, when things were simpler yet complicated
Get well soon, Mark, you got this
haha i like how mark sits there and bobs his head through pretty much the whole thing lol.

i liked this song more when refused did it and called it "blind date"
5 bottles went down the drain, 2 hours a waste of time, you'd ask if I feel the same, still plumbing that chance to try..
Tom makes me question my sexuality as a man....
