- There’s a short list of pros who can claim that they’ve skated at the highest level, while also possessing highly artistic capabilities
Jerry Hsu is one of the people you can include on that list, and his 7.5-minute part in the 2006 enjoi Bag of Suck skateboarding video along with a successful brand (Sci-Fi Fantasy) proves it
In this episode we tally up his tricks from Bag of Suck and break down each one to find out more about Jerry and his epic part that still stands as a ‘hype up to go skate’ video

Obligatory 'my bad' for the trick names I inevitably got twisted.

Isn't that a fakie fs tail down the rail? Same with the fakie fs noseslide, which u "corrected". Well doesn't really matter, I really like your work and videos! Another point where u said that's easely the longest grind in his 2nd part, maybe it is, but that grind in the first part could overtake it. Cool. Maybe you could analize some other older competitons, or parts, idk right now. Maybe something like the craziest flatground skating ever starting with Jonny Giger's flatground project and some other flatground clips. I just think about some stuff, so you don't run out of content! Maybe compare some soty's, some generation skaters or to compare some style from different skaters. Whatever, you'll do some great entertainment I really enjoy! 😉
@@kjdacod The way I understand it "fakie" is like playing the trick in reverse. For instance think about 5-0 and fakie 5-0, nosegrind and fakie nosegrind. As such fakie has no effect on backside or frontside.
If you follow that reasoning, I think the "fakie backside tailslide" is correct, but indeed the "fakie frontside noseslide" should be a "fakie backside noseslide" (i.e. at 16:22).
chill bruh
@@ErwinVervaet yeah I agree with this. Some people would call that a tail-slide, but the way I see it, it isn’t a tail-slide because he’s not sliding on the end of the board he popped with. Same thing with a fakie or nollie lip slide; the truck nearest to where you pop has to go over the rail. Otherwise it’s just a boardslide.
i think the "i just came in my pants" part kinda fits well with enjoi's theme of not taking themselves to seriously, and keeping things light and fun. I sort of like the contrast of that super heavy banger being followed up by a cheap joke from one of Jerry's homies.
Black Cat will forever be the best part Jerry has ever filmed, solely based on nostalgia and his ability to keep me wondering what freaking stance he was for so long... until I finally paid attention in the bonus footage of his switch flip over a huge gap and him flip around back to goofy before getting off his board. This part single handedly made him my favorite skater to this day.
Black Cat is a piece of my childhood I will never forget. Hiding the fact that I had it in the first place from my parents and yes, Jerry's part combined with McCartney's cover of Live and Let Die is forever implanted in my psyche.
The song was scary
Yeah the song was weird for sure but that's Jerry for ya. I am unsure about what dude is talking about with Live and Let Die.
I think I was 16 when this came out and vividly remember my jaw hitting the floor watching Jerry work his magic, the ender heard around the world and still stands as massively heavy to this day. Iconic.
The level of stoke and motivation this video provided to younger me was wild.
Can’t forget Ed Templeton when it comes to art and skating. Dudes been doing it for years
or Neil Blender.
I love how he has to work for his tricks, and how his switch looks switch.
That shot of Jerry lighting his cigarette with his thumb and the blond hair is exactly why I started smoking cigarettes as a kid 😂
Jerry was doing Suciu more than a decade before Suciu was doing Suciu
Yes!! so glad you're doing the classic part data idea!!
Yes!! I remember watching this for the first time when I was like 14, and just being blown away
Peak content as allways, you should do more iconic parts!
Arto Saari from sorry comes to mind for obvious reasons.
and Bastien Salabanzi from that same movie
That whole video is iconic
and thanks for the kind words!!
Yes! Reynolds Stay Gold as well
If you want to get really blown away by Jerry's skating, his Black Cat part will still get you hyped.
One of my all time favorite skaters!!
Awesome video btw!
Thank you!!
Delicious content. Jerry was my favorite skater as an impressionable middle schooler
I remember the first time I ever saw Jerry. The first skate tape I physically owned back then was Osiris The Storm when it came out. My neighbor and I watched that video every fkn day. Out of all the guys when Jerrys part came on we both went whoa who tf is that!? Jerry’s style and tricks stood out over everybody. He was a favorite and a huge fan ever since. This video was perfect, I’m glad the people chose this one 🤘💯
Incredible work!!! These vids are always so awesome!!! Thank you!!!
Thanks dude, appreciate the support!
Lol this is so wildly in-depth, Fire.. Great work
Dumb data best skate UA-camr 🙏🏻🙏🏻
TY!!
12:29 that grunt lolol i love your content. i was excited to see this just after making some food and looking for a video. jerry has that "it" factor, love to see him.
Thanks dude!!
Great Vid. Jerry was my favorite skater growing up.
A lot of what makes these videos so interesting to watch is hearing him mention the locations of these spots we’ve seen in other videos but had no clue where it actually is(I’m talking about skaters not from California cuz I’m sure the local people r familiar with a lot of these).
I know this part like the back of my hand but I never noticed jerry was wearing D3s in that Australia blocks line. Top 3 skate kit of all time.
Definitely one of my favorite skaters ever
No way he's gonna talk about each trick in the entire video...oh snap....this is great
Another bangin video!
Preshade it!!
I really wanna see Jerry back in batb lol
Trick @14:15 is at The Wedge in AZ. Very famous spot turned into public skatepark. Milton kickflipped the fuck out of the actual "wedge" part in gangreen
Probably a heavy request. But you talking about creative personalities and creative skating was interesting. Would love to see a video about that mainly focused on creative/unique skating. I.E. Jerry Hsu, Eric Koston, Gonz, Gou Miyagi, and the fancy lad crew. Love seeing how people can take skateboarding anywhere. Great videos love the hard work.
Bag Of Suck is hands down one of the best skate videos of all time.
Good shit!
That switch backside 180 overrail was NUTS
Legend
I’m way too young to know about Bag of suck but I’m glad I do
Cory Sheppard was also another great skater who was a phenomenal artist! Loved his Blind What If part
@12:39 - the spot is at the National Palace of Cultare in Bulgaria - Eastern Europe, I think I was even there at the time of the shot
some quality content here !
Thank you brotha
We love Jerry ❤️
9:04 Fakie Front Tail To Fakie
nope, imagine the footage reversed and add "fakie"
Phenomenal
That front side nose grind on that blue ledge where he used a street sign to roll up is in Madison Wisconsin its right next to the skatepark
Please do more classic parts this is great
literally the coolest skater ever wow
The clip at 13:40 is at the 10th st garage at San Jose state.
Jerry Hsu is goat
J Giger mentioned you in his hardest BATB vid. good stuff, and subbed!
TY!!
You're right Dixon landing is boarder of Milpitas and Fremont so yeah north of San Jose
Nollie BS Heel is a beautiful trick
This guy is insane!
13:40 is at San Jose state university. My mom worked in that building and I always dreamed of doing that. I was stoked but also heart broken when I saw him do that. I always though I’d be the only one to do it.
Yup it is in Portugal, Setubal to be exact
god tier channel
Thanks!!
The street sign diy bump to blue ledge nose grind is in Madison Wisconsin! Right by the skatepark. Without the sign it’s unskateable and with the sign it’s nearly impossible to skate. It’s also been front smithed I believe
I skate that park all summer long
The frontside nose slide shuv out on the 5 hubba was at the wedge skatepark in az 🤔
Fun fact the lake Merced water thing in sf is like a park you can just chill there, fun little spot
The triple set 3 with the nollie BS heel is a Martins Place in Sydney Australia
TIL
Thanks dude
Skateboarding in the 2000s was hardcore AF.
Seen this part hundreds of times but I never noticed the security guard or the D3s on the 3 3 3 stair line haha
its not security
The thing about Jerry is that he's way better then you think he is.
min 17:21 that a sw 180 fs to crook also known as sw overturn , not a blunt
15:12 this spot was in Arizona. Got torn down unfortunately.
Id say Brent achtley is equivalent. Prodigy, tech-gnar unique selection, style, feel based sponsor moves, leaving on top, meaningful post career life
you got so many trick names wrong but you are still appreciated
Skate trick names get so dumb once fakie and switch are involved
Happy New Year Dude, dam must have been a close race against Luan any chance on both I'm feeling greedy
14:54 switch heel gap is imax cinema in Melboune, Australia
Noted
Thank you
Need to do a video on “Baker 3” or “Birdhouse-The End” or “Transworld” or “ éS - Menikmati”
12:45 Great guess. That's Setubal - Portugal, Largo de Jesus. RIP. At the time that was a common stop for US teams.
I did some digging, you can check more of Largo de Jesus in Lakai's Beware of the Flare. In the section that says (of course) Portugal. Around the 18 minute mark.
Sick thanks for the tid bit!
Also 15:02. That's Barcelona, Plaza del Fondo. Not sure if that spot is still up, haven't been there in maybe 10 years.
The bench into the bank spot?
@@dumbdata34 yeap
9:15 is a fakie fs tail
if we follow the logic of naming the previous fakie noseslide frontside
Could you do Ali Boulala some time? I think he influenced Jerry Hsu a bunch and broke through some barriers, also doesn't have THAT much skate photage, I'd really like to get your take on his career!
I like the old video breakdowns
TY!
What was the drama on the Nollie back heel? Someone help me
i did them a lot on park and with heelflips BUT people called it fakie fs tailslide (bout the last sequence downstairs)
Do the storm flip man!
I got one of them enjoi boards and it looks like it's about 10 plies thick. Like riding a log
That bank ledge seen under a bridge by a creek is Guadalupe river in san jose spot is still there but always occupied by homeless. Red brick spot is san jose states parking garage. the 4 block is the metreon in sf not sure if that spot is still there tho.
San Jose's got spots!
The back 180 over the rail into the bank is at SFSU
The BS 180 after the nollie flip?
@@dumbdata34 yep! I go there so I was hyped to see that
first international clip is in israel mabey the nollie heel to fakie too
pivot spot has literally no bust chance. its a reservoir in sf on ocean & 22nd
That spinning down a bank was on a roof!
17:18 I'm not 100% sure but that might have been a grind not a blunt slide. What use think?
Back 50 down 11 flat 7 is at Ndk bulgaria
I think
Jerry is legendary like MJ or Koston.
Jonnhy gigger did a video inspired by you released just today
To the list of skaters with substantial artistic talents, I wanna Ed Templeton as well as Alexis Sablone.. 🙏
How do u know so much about San Jose spots? Pretty impressive lol
Hsu is 100% one of the many reasons I started smoking cigs, because it looked so badass in this video
Bummer
I see the cool factor and even enjoy the head change, but they just make your mouth taste so gross. I could never make it a habit…
Daewon's round 3 part please.
💌 Tell 'em DD - it's called a fuckin RICK flip💯💯💯💯🎶💯💯💯💯
It was a fakie front tail at the end of the line not fakie backtail
so are cigarettes kool or not? the answer is yes if they are menthol! also... nothing was vulgar about what was said when mr.hsu landed his ender. you see... just like how the framed "the end" signed was planned... the rest of the crew was also supposed to show up in short shorts... however... one of them forgot about the plan... that's why you hear him say "i came in my pants"
That was beautiful
@@dumbdata34 ty ty
@@dumbdata34 how can we talk? i got ideas that are like cats.... right up your alley. i'm an old dude, 49, started skating in '85. i feel like i've tried to contact you, but don't remember how and think it led to nowhere to be seen... like the flip of certain people's hardflips, inward heels and so on.
17:20 it's a switch backside 180 crooked, not a bluntslide 😅
Didn't age well?
I don't smoke and I never will... BUT
Watching them smoke makes me wish I did.
9:03 fakie *frontside tailslide to fakie
Great vid as always but the reservoir in SF isn't much of a bust, all you have to worry about is high schoolers smoking weed there
Fair enough
Thank you!!
9:02 fakie front tail
15:10 feels like a bluntslide to me
Jerry sent wearing d3s they are the osiris gorgon shoes which came before the d3s
i always know jerry enjoi , jerry chocolate never tracked
Which is your problem with cigarettes?
how my man not gonna recognise the martin place stairs
and melbourne museum goddamn
I let Straya down on this one my b
