NOBODY ever played Gomez better and with more passion than John Astin. He created the template for this character and it was even his choice to name the character Gomez since none of the Addams had names in the original cartoon panel. Raul Julia did a great job in his own right but he was basically doing Astin and so is every other Gomez. The same thing with Carolyn Jones as Morticia.

This show is well over 50 years old and it still makes me laugh uncontrollably.

John Astin and Raul Julia are the best Gomez Addams ever. I don't think that anyone else could do any better than these two gentlemen, in my personal opinion.
Raul Julia was very lucky to have John as the template for how to play Gomez and he did a great job himself but John Astin is definitely number 1.
Raul's was the less silly Gomez, both were just great!
Gomez: "Don't stop. After all we feel towards you as if you were our own son"
Morticia: "Gomez! he is!"
Gomez: "I thought he looked familiar" 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

Carolyn Jones what a fantastic Morticia. Playing opposite John Astin, can you really beat these two as the best.

My only significant criticism of the new Wednesday show. And I like the guy that played Gomez in Wednesday...but it was too laid back.
And the 90s Gomez was amazing, but this man. He's the King of the role.

I love the name Morticia
Carolyn and John originated and perfected these characters and worked directly with the one who invented the entire Addams family. Charles. Everything else after that is a copycat and not a very good one. I wish people would think of a new ideas instead of reinventing a show so many times that was perfected right here. You’ll never be able to re-create what John and Carolyn had.
