    Lyrics
    Let's go for a drive
    And see the town tonight
    There's nothing to do
But I don't mind when I'm with you
    This town's so strange
    They built it to change
    And while we sleep
We know the streets get rearranged
    With my old friends
    It was so different then
    Before your war
    Against the suburbs began
    Before it began
Now the music divides us into tribes
    You grew your hair
    So I grew mine
You said the past won't rest
Until we jump the fence and leave it behind
    With my old friends
    I can remember when
    You cut your hair
    I never saw you again
Now the cities we live in
    Could be distant stars
    And I search for you
    In every passing car
    The night's so long...
    Yeah, the night's so long
I've been living in the shadows of your song
Been living in the shadows of your song
    In the suburbs I
    I learned to drive
And you told me we would never survive
So grab your mother's keys we leave tonight
    But you started a war
    That we can't win
They keep erasing all the streets we grew up in
Now the music divides us into tribes
    You choose your side
    I'll choose my side
    All my old friends
    They don't know me now
    All my old friends
    Are staring through me now
    All my old friends
    They don't know me now
    All my old friends
    They don't know me now
    All my old friends wait

When I was 25 I had a huge falling out with my middle/high school friends over who I was in love with. All 7 of us were inseparable. We were at each other's houses everyday, I lived with 2 of them for years and never thought we would be apart. This album came out the same year the huge fight happened.... and I used to drive in the middle of the night weeping to this song at full volume. This hurts to this day. 💔

Damn dude, I never thought I'd see a comment so relative to my life.
I had a huge falling out with my 7 best friends too when I was 25, lived with two of them(they were brothers) for a couple years, never thought we wouldn't be friends anymore.
The fight happened over a girl one of the brothers stole from another best friend, I told him what was going on behind his back and everything fell apart.
I don't see any of them anymore, and I listen to this song and cry about it sometimes. That shit gave me like PTSD and it's still hard to this day.

“they keep erasing all the streets we grew up in”, that line always gets to me ;;; growing up my, family moved a lot, every other year pretty much. every ‘home’ became a ‘house’, we buried our housecat that was older than me at the time behind another house we left behind. i used to always cry when i had to throw away my toys and old things in order to conserve space to move again,, now i hoard what’s left of my old things, i never in my life had any real friends because ever since i was seven, i knew id never see those people ever again. i was born into that life, not my mother, not even my sister; now, neither of them believe my trauma because it was only a piece of their lives when it was my entire reality

And how about those friends we lost not so many years ago? I was raised in the suburbs so part of my heart is there....and i used to have a soul sister there....but a couple of years ago we grew apart, i suppose we stopped having things in common? she decided to vanish and i respected her decision....and i tough I was over it....but this song comes to teach me everytime than i am so wrong. It makes want to cry and I promise its not the red wine talking.

    Demos una vuelta,
y veamos la ciudad esta noche.
    No hay nada que hacer,
pero no me importa cuando estoy contigo.
    Esta ciudad es tan peculiar,
    la construyeron para evolucionar,
    y mientras dormimos,
sabemos que las calles se reorganizan.
    Con mis viejos amigos,
    era tan diferente entonces,
    antes de que comenzara
    la guerra de los suburbios,
    antes de que empezase.
    Ahora la música nos divide
    en tribus.
    Te dejaste crecer el pelo,
así que me dejaré crecer el mío.
Dijiste que el pasado no descansará
    hasta que saltemos la valla,
    y la dejemos atrás
    con mis viejos amigos.
    Recuerdo cuando
    te cortaste el pelo.
    Nunca volví a verte.
Ahora las ciudades en las que vivimos
    podrían ser estrellas distantes.
    Te busco
    en cada coche que pasa.
    La noche es tan larga.
Sí, la noche es tan larga.
He estado viviendo a la sombra de tu canción.
Viviendo a la sombra de tu canción.
    En los suburbios yo
    aprendí a conducir.

I kept my hair, it got long, ended up pretty much alone and never really trusted people much after that. The lyrics are history for some of us, many people everywhere I suppose. We lost our innocence and quite honestly it still hurts. Maybe that is why people dislike the lyrics. Peace.

These wayward tales of the vision of daytime junk and cars that never started and only if the reference of the gospel and the nightmare of happiness at the alter and Sunday school

    Let's go for a drive
    And see the town tonight
    There's nothing to do
But I don't mind when I'm with you
    This town's so strange
    They built it to change
    And while we sleep
We know the streets get rearranged
    With my old friends
    It was so different then
    Before your war
    Against the suburbs began
    Before it began
Now the music divides us into tribes
    You grew your hair
    So I grew mine
You said the past won't rest
Until we jump the fence and leave it behind
    With my old friends
    I can remember when
    You cut your hair
    I never saw you again
Now the cities we live in
    Could be distant stars
    And I search for you
    In every passing car
    The night's so long...
    Yeah, the night's so long
I've been living in the shadows of your song
Been living in the shadows of your song
    In the suburbs I
    I learned to drive
And you told me we'd would never survive
So grab your mother's keys we leave tonight
    But you started a war
    That we can't win
They keep erasing all the streets we grew up in
Now the music divides us into tribes
    You choose your side
    I'll choose my side
    All my old friends
    They don't know me now
    All my old friends
    Are staring through me now
    All my old friends
    They don't know me now
    All my old friends
    They don't know me now
    All my old friends wait

Funeral-Neighborhoods and old folks and kids and not letting anyone diminish that youthfulness
Neon Bible-moody af. We’re now very into the moon and The ocean and fuck the system that controls us
The suburbs- back to The neighborhood but we’re older and mad about most stuff.
