Maybe Richard can install a electric start kit once you get the new battery. Then you can hit a button to start the car every couple of hours from inside the house. I hope you get a moose !!! Have a great week and Thanks for sharing !!
I would suggest that you get a sled instead of your plastic sled. For one thing, they hold more and are not as unstable. Then I would like to suggest that you build an antechamber to the house in which you can temporarily store chopped firewood, snow shovels, snowshoes and other things that can be useful when the snow has fallen. I did that when I lived semi-off grid in northern Sweden with a sub-arctic climate (had electricity and running water). Then I always made sure to be well prepared for the coming seasons. For example. I serviced the snow thrower in the spring and made sure to store seasonal equipment well protected from rain, wind or snow. A large stock of split firewood for at least two years is also a must - some stored in a shed and some in the covered porch, which in turn prevents the cold from penetrating the house. Whoop.....you will get your moose. UA-cam from your area say the meat is tasty. Love little Julianna jumping in the snow. A happy child! Amy and Richard it amazes me how well you partner, and compliment each other on this Alaskan adventure compliment
Keep the jump box charged up and store inside where it is warm. Lithium batteries fall flat in extreme cold. They do make some models that have a pre-warm function to warm the cells internally in extreme cold weather before use. They make solar battery conditioners that desulfate battery and add trickle charge to extend life of battery in low use conditions. Modern cars are loaded down with so many parasytic loads that they kill battery without multiple daily use. You should consider a cold weather go bag that you can toss in the car at a moments notice that contains things like food, water and jump packs. You can top off your USB devices with 12 volt charger as you are traveling so they are in top shape if you break down or get stuck on the road.
You’re right Aimee - winter is really beautiful. Once you’ve got your work cut out, your daily chores, not to mention those cozy days when you’re forced to stay indoors enjoying delish heart warming meals. Then living in Alaska is worth it. I’ve heard it takes 2 seasons to acclimatise in a new area. Love Richard’s sense of humour! Imagine if he did have a hole in his pocket dear Aimee, dear Aimee. You wouldn’t bother looking for his tools in the snow! At least you 3 have fun in the snow. Good to harvest dead trees on your property. Will you be planting new trees to replace dead ones? Hope you get a moose 🤞 be safe during the Arctic blast. Avid 🇦🇺 fan. (It’s 28-38F here in Sydney 🔥 🔥)
Hope you get your call about a moose getting hit. Can’t imagine how much that would make to your meals!! I’d get all your processing equipment ready, gathered together. Are you able to put heat in your shed? Moose is a big animal.. 🤞🤞fingers crossed you get one ! B Deacon Manitoba Canada 🇨🇦 👍
I also wonder, i look at quite a few Alaskan vlogs since it's where I'm from. and very few even want their vehicles under a cover. Why is that. Seems such a hassle for cleaning off and wear and tear on the engine. In an emergency so many of these off gridder's would be stuck. Jus curious. I'm retired out of Ak for winter.
Want to say never disconnect your batter the way you did neg first if you do pos first you blow up your battery your face neg first reconnect neg last hope this helps you
hey guys like your video very much block heater you need to get a good block heater that's number one number two get yourself a good heavy duty car charger starter it has capability charging the batteries and on the time you need that engine started it will help you start your engine and then and then the most important thing is your battery since you're in Alaska where gets mother cold you want to get yourself a really good battery like an Optima or there's some other ones that are heavy duty like a thousand amps for about the standard size can't think of the name right off my head but if you look them up you'll find it the glass mat batteries are really good

Nice video. You are well suited for the environment. I like winter but not as much as you get. Tough job keeping up with chores in that weather.

In the final shots of the video what was that in the sky?
Stars with a shooting star at one point, the camera left trails on them

Glad I never will move to Alaska.... For those that do...here's your sign ! lolol.
Way too cold for this old man...lol
I have heard people buy engine warmers in Alaska?
Being off grid adds an extra level of difficulty since the engine warmers take a lot of electricity, we have to run a generator to power them
you guys please winterize the vehicle w/engine block heater, pan heater etc. I
If you have an emergency and need the car you are stuck.
We found there was a block heater so we have options bow
I am with you Amy the winters here are fantastic. My car at work barely started at -30. 5 more deg colder it wouldnt have started.
