Chapters for this *Special Train* video: 0:00 Channel name 0:03 Train is departing 0:13-0:15 Squeak + Musical Scale play 0:24 Pitch changes as C5 (C note above Middle C) plays and continues departure showing different cars attached to the Taurus 0:26 Jet boost sound from speed and continuous pitch 0:32 Jet engine startup/whooping/Shepard part sound 0:40 High-powered Air Conditioner sound imitated (with some extra squeaks) 0:57 End of train car showing and outro continues
I always wondered why the Taurus's make this sound - is it coincidental in that they designed a gradual step-up of electric power (so that the train doesn't depart too fast/wheel slip) which just happened to produce a scale? Or did the designers intentionally WANT the train to play a scale for just that purpose? Or both? :]
What you hear is double the frequency at which the pulse inverters are working, and the sound itself actaully IS intentinal. They could have chosen any frequencies, but decided not to because it sounds nicer this way. Also, sadly, only the first one or two generations have it, starting with the third generation its sadly gone, probably forever.
