Possibly. They did say that N was the first to have clothes originally, but then they just decided to give them to everyone to differenciate characters more. So he probably just picked up the hat.
I think it’s called that, because N said, “I’m kinda the leader of the squad in this city… that’s not true, everyone calls me useless and terrible,” in a kind of jokingly way.
Unlikely. N's main character flaw of low self-confidence and a slight bit of denial makes him VERY bad at ordering people around. Even though he can totally see the issue coming,he is likely to pretend it is all fine (even if it is a life or death situation,example: When he nearly died).
J for as much of a bad job she did,was the most fitting for the position, with enough confidence to get even V in line... Or at least aim her in the right direction.
N would be unable to be giving orders properly and V would simply not think things through enough. So,for better or for worse,even if N was initially meant to lead the squad,J is just a better fit. She leads badly but at least she can lead them.

N himself isn't a good leader, but it's theorized he was intended to be by _JC Jenson_ because of his PHYSICAL MODEL. (Not his personality.) J took over because she is better at the ACTUAL ROLE of being a leader than N, although she's also a rather toxic one.
Additionally, it makes sense to have symmetrical Murder Drone pods with one leader model and two follower models, despite _JC Jenson_ not caring about if the leader model is even a good leader.
_JC Jenson_ as a company gives off an orderly vibe where everything they do has a reason. How else would they be so successful that they are pioneering the expansion of humanity? Why would they make two different types of models if not for one of them to lead the other? (Of course we can see in the pilot that it doesn't really work that well if personality is not considered as a factor by _JC Jenson_ )
(I have a whole list of theories to why certain aspects of the MDs are what they are, based on why _JC Jenson_ would want them in the first place, or just by being in the shoes of _JC Jenson._)
-For example, the MDs could have a -_-wild, animalistic, kill mode-_- because -_-JC Jenson-_- thought animal/predator-like behavior was the best for hunting, instead of intelligent-like behavior which is better for problem solving.-
(Thinking like _JC Jenson_ is one way to come up with explanations for the mysteries about the Murder Drones and the situation as a whole, which as Liam Vickers already stated on a AMA Reddit Post by Glitch, is what the show is about.)
*You are correct,* in that *N would never have been intended to be the leader based on who he is,* (HE IS OBLIVIOUS TO SO MUCH!) but what the commenter and I theorize is that the company made the decision on who is SUPPOSED to be the leader *not based on personality, but on their physical being.* But of course, since they don't have any real control over who is or is not the leader, anyone can take over if they are capable enough, *which J obviously was.*
Again, everything here is speculation, and all we can do is continue to speculate until the show comes out and tells us more.
(P.S. To be fair, I speculated that J slapping N would turn his red light yellow using only the trailer, before the show came out and confirmed it, so I do not completely lack any speculating credibility.)

Still though:
Now,since we enter the realm of speculation,the 2 physical frames of dissassembly drone we see are strongly implied to simply be intended sexual dimorphism immitation by whatever/whoever designed them in universe,or even just combat efficiency design choices.
N's frame is different from that of his comrades mostly on the leg department and MAYBE the chest slightly,but we have no confirmation. Considering his weaponry (grenade launcher thingy) requires the most aiming from him out of the 3,that distinction could easily be meant to make it easier for him to find balance in combat. Nothing about having decent legs screams "intended for leadership" to me personally.
His clothing is also doesn't necessarily imply intended leadership considering the environment he's deployed on. The oddest of the bunch clothing wise is V,but I guess when you are hot enough to melt hands you CAN be partially naked at Copper 9.
Lastly, we do not even know if pre-intended leadership is a thing. The physical differences among them could very well be there for functionality purposes and completely unrelated to any hirearchy. J is confident enough to just declare herself leader and both N and V would just roll with it initially, especially since,despite the toxicity coming her desperate need for company validation,she was supposedly doing fine commanding them.
Add to that that how much of their personalities are pre-coded and how much of them are natural developments due to their killing routine post-depoyment is still unknown and... Yeah it is a little early to explore what the company INTENDED of them.
As for why the company would even seperate them via genders that don't actually work... Why do they give them clothes that offer little to not protection from damage/heat,their main concerns? Why would they give them accessories like hats and the like? Why the ACTUAL hair? Why do they even need to reward them with pens and pencils when they perform well?
Needless to say that they are already making a lot of odd choices for their dismantlers... Which wasn't the case with worker drones,that were intially supposed to seemingly be identical,identity lacking,mass producible machines for basic labour,all given the exact same basic clothing and nothing else.
Dissassembly Drones contrast the Worker Drones in many ways,one being how ready everything is for them when it comes to identity. Workers had to actively find these, the hair,the clothes,the personality,the elements of distinction among eachother.
That struggle is less extreme for current workers like Uzi that were born in a disturbingly decent immitation of human society where fashion,enployment and families are already a thing,it is still there,since they kinda have to pretend they have genders, which is sort of rough.
And N,J and V just kinda get them from the beginning. Even though it isn't necessary that they have all that.
It is very possible that this is the result of the vampires being a kind of drone that doesn't get mass produced but instead constructed in individual trios,having their deployment destination in mind,giving their constructors more freedom to not only specialize them but give them more of an identity as humans do with everything.
With each trio having to be largely different due to various vastly different environment requirements mass production would be very costly,complex and on top of that most likely unnecessary,how many worker colonies get isolated and independent? Certainly dozens for the vampires to be an official product but definitely not enough to justify whole factories of dissassembly drones,then the company would be collapsing financially.
So,N having better quality legs than the girls doesn't seem that important to me personally. Especially with worker oil being teased to be more than just oil, giant mantis shaped machines in some lab somewhere,Uzi's mother being a triple plot point as: motivation for Khan to be an antagonist/cause of drama among the main cast/screwing factor for Uzi's mental descent and of course J obviously not being truly dead since if she was it'd be just bad writing... All of that being present... On top of Uzi maybe getting vampire'd...
Yeaaah we lack critical info on what murder drone variation means and no theory is truly concrete yet. We may not even get an anwser ever,since the show clearly has A LOT more to unpack until the uncovering of the 5dchess situation starts getting done.
PS: Look at Liam disqualify this whole comment of mine about 1.5/2 years later simply because he wanted a murder drone factory to fit in the story somehow for spooky vibes.

I just realized why I love this show’s songs so much. They have a few aspects similar to that of Portal’s music and the music also accurately creates a unique atmosphere.

I love how "V and J seem nice" totally encapsulates their personalities in Ep. 1, V's part of the song is erratic and terrifying, whist J's is Loud and commanding. I love how this show series expresses it's characters so well, even in the slightest details.

Hey ya'll, I hope you enjoy this mini album of the music from the Murder Drones pilot! BTW... if you haven't seen it yet... GO WATCH IT RIGHT NOWWWWW (there's a link in the desc). On that note, I'm gonna talk about my experience working on this music as I have with the other OSTs:
I was very excited when I was told I'd be doing the music for a Glitch/Liam Vickers collaboration, I spent a long time thinking about it as I kept up with the show's production. As it came closer for me to start, me and Liam spent some time discussing what we wanted the sound of Murder Drones to be. Our biggest goal was to keep the darker horror tone rather consistent, despite the show being very comedic. I've been more used to just scoring the emotion on screen, so I was looking forward to a scoring style I'm personally more into.
The action music in the pilot was almost mostly "EDM-y" kinda like our teaser/trailer themes, but we ultimately landed on a big-cinematic-choir-esque-almostfuckinmetal-sound that Liam and I liked more haha. Also, I sort of adopted Liam's music style a little bit as we kind of shared melody ideas and so forth, and I think it was a fun collaboration we had going on.
All and all, pretty hyped that I was able to give some tonal sound to this amazing project, by an AMAZING team I'm so lucky to have worked with for 3 years now. Really grateful they keep me around haha. If this show is picked up for a season, consider this music just a TASTE of the pure insanity I plan to make going forward. Alright guys, thanks for listening!

Instead of going for a different melody with each song, you keep the same melody. This normally wouldn't work, but I really love the vibe. Hearing the main melody throughout the soundtracks really feels good.

Gin Rummy is also just the name of a card game (specifically the one that the WDF were playing before they got wrecked by N).
Ohh,.... These ost soundtracks are one of many reasons why i really like murder drones.
The quality of this was a pleasant surprise, to say the least.
Also, the track names are both funny and fitting.
There are points where you can hear themes from Portal 2 (or parts that are at least really similar to Portal 2)
Wheatley's leitmotif is everywhere, but can be heard most prominently at [10:59], [17:11] and [23:12].
Something very similar to "Reconstructing Science" can be found throughout the soundtrack, but can really be heard at [7:46], [10:24], and especially at [16:03].
This isn't supposed to be like a "AAaaAAaA hE sToLE mUSiC" comment, I just think it's really cool

So I was originally going to work together with other commenters to figure out what the voices at 23:34 and 24:53 say in Murder Brings (Trailer Theme). Then AJ DiSpirito just straight up told me in the replies.

Then at 25:04 it says
"Murder drones"
You can see my original interpretation below because I think it's funny.
At 23:34 in Murder Brings (Trailer Theme) there's a voice saying something like:
"Murder brings (down from the ashes/masses)"
"Murder brings (cold for the BOOONES!)"

The parenthesis are the parts I'm not sure about. Tbh I might be completely off. The only part I can confirm is where it says "murder brings" and the rest doesn't really make sense. Hopefully some people in the replies and help figure out what these are. I'll update this comment if someone brings a better interpretation to the replies (with credit of course). I've seen one other comment from @psychanimac who talks about these lines and only hears "ashes" and "bones". These lines also appear at 24:53 and I think they say the same thing.

I just discovered and binged all 6 episodes of Murder Drones, and am now listening to the entire available soundtrack on repeat, this shit is absolute fire between the atmosphere it presents as well as the hype for action, and tension in between these moments.
WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT "GOTH GIRL ANIME LOVER VS WHOLESOME KILLER BOY" LMAAOO
Something I adore about this soundtrack is the subtle details and tones always sprinkled throughout it
The mix of rock, orchestra, electronic, and more all blends so well. Not to mention the main melody of Murder Drones being slipped into each track, which I personally adore. It just adds that character to the music and makes it so much more recognizable
The pilot was great. Can't wait for the full series to be released

This is my second comment, but I just wanted to ask three things.
One: When Uzi first enters the frozen wasteland of Copper 9, a rising piano harmony plays quietly above the more noticeable melody of rising triad fragments. This exact phrase plays almost verbatim both in The Plot 2: This Time It's Personal, and in Uzi Needs a Time Out. It also seems to lead very naturally into the main theme. What are the exact notes of this phrase?
Two: The two basic phrases of the Drone ostinato, D-A-E-F and D-A-Bb-G, have an interesting pattern. When all notes are played at once, they form two minor triads, Dm and Gm, with an added second. By itself this wouldn't mean much, but that added second could be interpreted as an added ninth, as a nine-note interval is effectively an octave plus a second. That ninth could be interpreted as a reference to the name of the planet, Copper 9. Is this reading correct, or have I just listened to too much Lord of the Rings musical analyses?
Three: I've noticed that Meta Runner's soundtrack is structured in a similar manner to Doctor Who's soundtracks. Rather than composing tracks for individual scenes, you compose a single track that embodies a certain group, feeling, or person, and then that track is edited where it is appropriate. For Murder Drones, however, tracks _are_ meant to fit with individual scenes (though, the beginning of The Plot 2 is also reused for when Uzi is first leaving the colony). However, that might be just a one-time thing, seeing as this is just the soundtrack for the pilot. Is this scene-specific track design going to be the norm for the other episodes? If it is, then could you pretty please release the soundtrack for episode 2? I really want to dissect it, but it's kinda hard what with all the sounds of... "friendship" going on in the episode.

My friend, I don't know if you're aware of this or not but AJ Dispirito has released the soundtracks for both episodes 2 and 3! UA-cam didn't notify me and I didn't find out about it until yesterday :/
