Vassy pressing Higgs on common sense shows how far we’ve descended into clown world.
What a bias interview, arguing for children and teachers to keep secrets from parents is an argument for child abuse.
The flip side is true as well, if you come out to your parents and they vigorously fight you on your decision it can certainly lead to not only a bad home life but possibly child abuse. Also the interview isn’t biased it’s her job to push him on questions and try to get the best out of the interview.
I may be wrong in this issue though.

Both are wrong. They do not BELONG to you and they do not BELONG to the government. THis is THEIR choice. NOBODY is forcing them to do anything, only respecting their opinions. They are not your slaves or your property.

@danielc2733 Well I was one of the parents who sent in a complaint and I know of at least 5 other friends who have emailed complaints. Trust me, the complaints are out there. The government and the schools don't raise my kid. We are the parents, not the government.
Bravo Premier Higgs for reasoned and balanced leadership. I wonder if the former Minister is themselves a concerned parent whose children's interests are held in secret by the state. The child's best interest as per "family law" should not supersede logic and childrearing at all cost to society in my view and Canada needs to take a hard look at the state interfering in that "fundamental" principle in raising families.
And what happens when those "Families" are so biased, so abusive, so horrible to their kids that they'd rather see them on the streets, or dead, than be the kids that they are? Does a parent's right to beat the hell out of their kids, bully them, indoctrinate them with religious threats or even push them to death trump the kid's right to be themselves?
Any 'concerned parent' would respect the decisions of their child, not impose their own will on them. Family law says NOTHING about this. THis is a child coming out to a teacher and asking them to be accepted for who they are.
Anybody that thinks teachers have the TIME, let alone the inclination to be pushing identities onto children really has NO idea what the school system is like.
Mr. Higgs,we hear you loud and clear. Thanks for supporting the fundamental value of family. Schools are affirming many children,when they shouldn't, that is not their job. Just because they feel different it does not mean they are and rush them to hormone blockers and then surgeries. There is monumental consequences to those procedures when we try and re-arrange the structure of the body. We are not cars or robots.!!!

Vassey - I taught high school and I never kept one thing that happened at school from any parent. It is unethical to withhold any issues from parents that a teacher finds out about a child.

I had zero clue that this was going on at schools until this came up. I didn’t know things were hidden from parents. We have to give permission for school day trips. Are you kidding me that this is hidden??

You're misunderstanding the issue, and in the five years Higgs said he'd add more counsellors and psychologists to help kids, he's done none of it. Higgs doesn't care about this issue in general, it's a dog whistle to a bigoted, transphobic base because being anti-GLBTQIA+ is the "in" thing right now.
It's very reasonable. But the interviewer isn't a real journalist and will do and say anything to maintain her prestigious position
@@momustapha Except that, you know, he's made sure there AREN'T any counsellors or psychologists for kids to go to, and involving parents who would be detrimental to their kids is more important than the safety of said kids. So no, it's not reasonable at all.

@@soulscorge When he was elected he promised to push to get psychologists/therapists into the schools. Five years later, not only are there none, the numbers are actually down from when he was elected.
And thus far, there's been no reports of hiring despite the wording of 713.

Government overreach in this situation is the thin edge of the wedge towards eliminating the family unit. It's a slippery slope towards dystopia where parents will be redefined only as 'persons who reproduce' as all children will be wards of the state, a necessary development to 'protect the children'.

This "journalist" has an incorrect and quite absurd starting position.
The correct starting position is that until shown otherwise, on a case by case basis, parents should be assumed to have the best interest of their children at heart, know their children best, and are best suited to make decisions for their children. Until PROVEN otherwise.
The State should not be coming between children and their parents. "Co-parenting" is an evil and insidious concept.

2 anglophone public school districts in southern NB adapt their own rules opposing the NB government. Since when publicly fund school districts can make decisions like if they were private schools? I smell a huge lawsuit by parents and government towards the ones in charge of those districts.
I read a of a case in the States today.. I can't remember the channel..
But there's a young person, now in their early 20s, who ~ when they were 12, were "diagnosed" as being transgender ~ boy trapped in a girl's body.. The medical system in California let the medications & some surgeries happen.. But... as they became an older teen ~ they discovered transgender was Not her issue at all... & Now their life is an Absolute Mess..
& they are suing the state of California & the medical drs involved..
There is No easy answer...
& I know all parents are not very open to dealing with this.. unfortunately..
So.. No, kids are not all going to be safe.

If your child doesn't feel safe coming out to you, but is out at school. You failed as a parent and your kid doesn't feel safe around you.
Parents should be involved in all their children's major life decisions. It's not for the Government to say that they know better and exclude parents. The fact that this is a point of contention is concerning.
