The definition of trust: I literally just ordered this book based on you giving it 5 stars without even watching the video yet lol Your recommendations are always spot on!
I will definetely be getting Belladonna after watching your video. The quotes on both grief and loss and about death are spot on in my honest opinion. It is extremely hard losing a close family member and the grief never leaves you but the good memories are what keep you going- at least that's how it has been in my case.
I just finished this the other day. I did not care so much for the murder mystery that drives the plot. But I loved Death's character a lot and how the story handled death in general. Also the gothic aesthetic was really cool and spooky.
You're reviews are great, thank you,I've never heard of this book and I am sold, it sounds to be the perfect automn read ✌🏻 Also, can you make a new book shelves tour, puh-wease 🙏🏻
Hahaha, eventually! I thought I’d maybe do one right at the beginning of 2023 because I know I’ll be adding some more books to the shelves around the holidays 😄
I’m quite excited to read this one now! I was a bit on the fence, but after hearing your review, the book definitely sounds like something I’ll love considering the themes and aesthetic. Thank you so much for the thoughtful review! I did notice something about the artwork though that made me think of the video you did awhile ago on similar covers: the flower garland on the hardcover with the library binding is exactly the same (just flipped) as the chapter headings for Orlaith in “To Bleed a Crystal Bloom” by Sarah A. Parker
This makes me even more excited to read this book. I was drawn to the pretty purple cover and was happy to see the deep purple book underneath. 💜 Gothic, murder mystery, with a Phantom like romance? I might not wait until October to read this now.
I actually skipped a book box that is doing Belladona this month, so naturally, after seeing your review, I emailed them straight away whether it is too late to unskip :)
This review was the reason I ordered the book and I just finished it! I absolutely loved it! Devoured it. Can’t wait for the next one. I’ll have to reread this next year and actually tab it on these certain phrases that you mentioned.
I would love a review on Blood and Moonlight by Erin Beaty! I wanna read it but also Im worried since it is YA. Its hard to find a YA nowadays that keeps my attention but it sounds really good. Also about the order this book because of this review! gives me addie larue vibes in a way. Much excite!
As I know so well, reading about death and dying brings a lot of emotion. I think it’s beneficial for young adults to be aware of the feelings they may encounter sometime in their life. It’s inevitable it happens at least once. Maybe they will be more prepared for that time. 🙏
I saw this one come into the bookstore I work at and was hoping you'd review it because it did look interesting (okay maybe I just think the cover is awesome) but I'm excited to pick it up now! Excellent passage selections, they really sold it for me.
Ohh, how fun that you work at a bookstore! And I feel like reading those passages aloud made me realize just how disturbing they are 😅 but I’m glad it sounds interesting to you :D
I just finished Belladonna today and adored it!! Definitely a new favorite. I also didn’t see the ending coming, I got in the ballpark but wrong players lol
Ahhhh thank you so much for recommending this book! I saw you talk about in a few videos and I was like this sounds good. I purposefully didn't watch this video until after I read it because I like to know as little as possible when going into books haha. But omg!! Just finished the day before Halloween, I love creepy gothic vibes like this but not full blown horror hahah! This exceeded all my expectations and I never would've heard about it if not for you!! Please do a SPOILERY discussion!! So much to talk about!!
Just finished this today and also gave it 5 stars!!! Although the setting is totally different, I recommend it for fans of Caraval. This book gave me everything I wanted but didn't get from Kingdom of the Wicked.
I've had this book on my radar for a while and now I'm even more excited to get to it. I love when books explore grief. Also, that is a stunning edition. Is it the standard US copy?
This is the standard US edition but it's limited to the first printing! After the first printing it won't have the exclusive case design and endpaper art.
hi el! i really appreciate that you do individual book reviews, especially the way you structure them and how much you think them through beforehand. it makes the videos very informative and easy to follow for me. i write down short notes on some booktube videos in obsidian for easy future reference. and my notes on your reviews are perfect and easy to do which makes my brain happy. just wanted to share my appreciation. 😄❤
Thank you for this wonderful review. This book was not something I was planning to pick up but after your review, I plan to. I am dealing with grief as I had lost my sweet Mom in 2020 so any book that deals with grief is very much of my interest... In a weird way reading books that talk about grief truly helps me. Thank you again ❤️
I’m sorry about your mom; losing a parent is so hard, and I’m in the same boat as you with losing a parent that year. I hope the book helps you with those feelings of loss and grief 💗
that was jolly good. you are right with the description I had the same feeling with the spirit dying again. And the talk...To me, you are a song to a soul that has never known music. Light to someone who has only seen darkness. So pretty. How can we wait till the second book arrives? Damn good recommendation, thank you!
I saw that the book was also translated in my country, Romania, so your opinion about the book came at the right time. I admit that we have no intention of buying the book, but after hearing you talk about the book, I will definitely buy it. Thank you very much.
Fantastic review ! Currently reading an arc I got and I’m loving it. I’m liking the way it’s handling death and grief etc, I always find a good gothic story can do that.
I had seen this book, knew about its debut, but didn't think it would be something I'd be interested in. Sounds so good, Elliot! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I enjoy the way you review books by discussing different aspects while letting us know how much you liked or disliked it.
Great review 👏 Such beautiful cover (for me at least) and yes it sounds amazing. Wish that my uni didn't already started and I could just jump right in.
hey, i was wondering who you thought the murderer was when reading, because i had a very similar experience to yours and i was curious to know if we shared the same thought process haha
This was in my radar because that cover is beautiful and I'm always here for death personified, but since it was YA I hadn't really bothered with it (YA just not doing it much for me nowadays), but since you mentioned it's more mature I'll definitely be giving it a try now!
Love this review and hadn’t heard of it but now going to get it. I feel like the writing is similar to Ordinary Monsters, it read like a movie. I could see what he was writing. So cool!
I have seen this book cover in the store but didn’t wanna be swayed from my buy one book only 😂 (I got babel❤️) but after hearing this I think I’m gonna give it a go next month and buy it next. Thank you.
I am an absolute wimp when it comes to things being "scary" but I adored the All The Stars and Teeth duology so I really want to read more from this author! I am fine with gore and violence (I liked the passages you shared) but hate feeling scared. Would you still recommend the book to me? Love your videos!😀
This wasn't on my Radar, but I am definitely interested and I don't mind creepy and eerie (I am reading The Call by Peadar O'Guilin, creppy is a okay😅) and actually for me personally death isn't something I have dealt with yet so reading about death I feel gets me more comfortable with the aspects of it and though I'll greive I am sure I will generally be.. okay? Especially after the quotes you read I am soo interested

Thorough and well explained review. Convinced me to place this one on my TBR, thanks!
You’re very welcome, I hope you enjoy the book!

gothic literature originated and was popularized in 18th century england
I read this after i saw your unexpected 5 star, finished it today and loved it... Thanks for the recommendation😍
You had me 100% at "Phantom of the Opera."
Definitely adding this book to my TBR!

Thank you so much for this review, Elliot. It was thoughtful, sensitive and erudite. You’ve convinced me to pick Belladonna up!
I enjoyed listening to this review 💗 it's absolutely lovely
Thank you, I appreciate that!
I've had this book on my radar for a while and now I'm even more excited to get to it. I love when books explore grief.
Also, that is a stunning edition. Is it the standard US copy?
Yes I'd like to know that too. The UK cover is prettier but if this is what's under the US cover, I'll order the US copy.
This is the standard US edition but it's limited to the first printing! After the first printing it won't have the exclusive case design and endpaper art.
@@marshmallow864 Thank you!!
Kate answered! After the first printing, I believe there will be a beautiful naked hardback still, but it won’t be white
@@marshmallow864 I ordered right away and it came today. I am so glad I acted quickly - this naked cover is so lovely. Thanks again for the info.

The Phantom of the Opera referente is all I need to go read this.
Some people were ”icked” by the fact that Death had his eyes on this girl since she was an infant. Talk about sugar daddy 😅
Where did you get this edition of the book? I’m not too fond of the current cover at B&N. Your version is so beautiful.
I am glad you made a review for this book. It's one of my most anticipated books this year and I'll definitely pick it up!
Hooray! Hopefully it lives up to your expectations 😄
Where is this edition from? The naked hardback is so beautiful!

Just picked this book up at my local bookstore

Wasn’t something I was particularly planning on reading, but sounds super intriguing 🧐 thanks for the non-spoiler, always useful x
I'm trying with this book. I keep waiting for something interesting to happen but i am bored af. In chapter 5.
Great review 👏
Such beautiful cover (for me at least) and yes it sounds amazing. Wish that my uni didn't already started and I could just jump right in.

I dont like reading horror but this book does intrigue me!
It’s not too scary! Just more of the general feel rather than actively feeling frightening, if that makes sense :)
@@ebnovels Yes thank you that does make sense. My birthday is next month so I'll put it on my bday wish list 📖
This one intrigues me but I didn't love her other duology, it read too young for me. I still want to give this one a go though.
I get that! I think this one does read older than that duology, but still not adult fantasy
