Yup, Native Americans were the first to Crip Walk. Actually, it's called the Fancy Dance. Redbone is a Cajun term for a person of mixed-race "half-breed". The members applied the word to name their band which signified their mixed ancestry of Yaqui, Shoshone, and Mexican heritage
What you witnessed at the beginning is what we call a " Fancy Dance." Check out the opening ceremonies at the Nation's annual pow wow. Over 500 different tribes. Awesome.
Having Native Heritage I never knew this was a Native American band. It was little b4 my time, but i know the song. Redbone should have let me know it was Native Name. My grandmother was Full Native. My Daddy never let us forget our Heritage. My Daddy was a Trip he wrote the dog as dependent on taxes in 70s. When audited by IRS he said BlackDog was Native Name for 1 of his kids... LOL
That's awesome! If you didn't already know, Joey Belladonna from Anthrax is also of Native American ancestry and totally worth checking out in my opinion.
It was an honor to get to see him showcase a dance of his people before he began the music. I live near Cherokee and grew up watching these beautiful rituals and dances. It's a true honor to be allowed to witness the beauty of his culture.
My granddaughter has been a Native American jingle dancer for many years, my grandson is a drummer!! They must come up with a design and make their own regalia, plus do their own beading!! The dances and dancers are breath taking!! If you ever get the chance to see a PowWow please do it, you won't be sorry you did!!
Yeah. It's "gentleman stuff". He's telling her there's nothing wrong with her. She's great as she is, and he's there wanting her ... as she is. Great stuff.
absolutely ..you don't need to worry about being a certain way or looking a certain way, I fell in love with you for just the person you are.. just be you ;)
There are a lot in Canada. My cousin is one of the biggest Native American artists in Canada. However this is one of the only Native American bands that got Nationwide popularity.
Not the only one, but the only one most people have ever heard of. Blackfoot was another good native band. If you've ever heard 'Highway Song', or 'Train, Train' that was Blackfoot.
I miss The Midnight Special. It was a real showcase of what was happening. Sure do miss those days, and that music. Missing a performance of this show or Soul Train, American Bandstand, and Saturday Night Live could mean you lost seeing a great performance. Back in those days you weren't sure you would get another chance to catch it unless you saw a rerun. Gotta love the internet.
Agreed. Midnight Special always seemed to have a finger on the current pulse of musical America back then...Was a show I looked forward to every week !
@Darrin Robinson Actually the "correct term" varies not only from tribe to tribe but person to person. I myself prefer the term First Nations as it recognizes there were many nations and cultures here.
The studio version is a little better than this live version, but not really much. But I think its cool to see some of these old songs played live, by the original artist.
Yeah. For the first several years, they demanded everybody perform live. No crap lip-singing Bandstand style. It was only later, after around the fifth year, did that change. Ruined it when it happened. At least for me.
I loved seeing and hearing Wolfman Jack on that. Will never forget "Burt Sugarman's Miiiiidnight Special!" I was young when it was on television, back before 24 hour broadcasting and if you missed something on tv, you missed it. Pointblank and simple. So, when I was allowed to watch it, I really appreciated it for the rare and special occasion it was.

Omg - it’s cracking me up that nobody seemed to know this was an NDN band! I grew up on the Makah Indian reservation and everybody jammed to Redbone (we still do). The drummer, Pete DePoe is my uncle Ron DePoe’s brother. They’re a Plains Tribe and we’re a NW Coast canoe society of whalers. But Ron married my Auntie back in the 70s and now their youngest son is a Makah Tribal Councilmen 😂.

The show featured popular Rock and R & B music acts of the day, along with comedy segments and appearances by standup comics. You should watch the documentary "Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World". It's an eye-opener you can find on Amazon Prime Video. Too long for a reaction video, but you will be glad you saw it.
Oh my God, I had a huge crush on every one of these guys!! I wanted to get my love. But I was stuck in Tennessee. A senior in high school. They still make my heart go haywire. I still get chills.
Always been a fan of these guys, who brought the traditions of their nation into the music they made. They are all natives so they got every bit of right to do what they did, they shared their history with us in the form of dance and song. Redbone had a few big hits, this being the biggest hit i think (altho Witch Queen of New Orleans might be the slightly bigger hit? unsure). Little bit surprised you didnt recognize this song as the big song from the movie "Guardians of the Galaxy" as that brought this amazing song back to the main stream 40+ yrs later. Great react man, always enjoy seeing your amazement hehehe.
I grew up hearing this song alot as my mother played it often. I never knew this was done by a native American band. How awesome it is discovering new things about older music. Changes my perspective in a positive way.
Hey , Mr. Video , love your reaction ; I'm part Cherokee and I freaking love me some REDBONE - Basically , this song is a guy singing to his girl who thinks she isn't pretty enough or Sexy enough and he's trying to tell her that she's the prettiest most sexiest girl in the world to him , so she should COME AND GET HER LOVE
Bro if you ever have a chance to goto pow-wow you should go... It is a whole different experience in life that will open your eyes to a family and spiritual connection like no other place. And to be honest I had no idea this was NATIVES singing this song. even being 1/4 cherokee.. My mind was thinking some REDBONES, sheatah we know some Atlanta Redbones Mastadon - Motherload, get your $$$$ ready....
The whole hey is what he was doing in the intro . Then the breakdown when it get funky is the meat of the song . And it’s a great 2 step song when ya hip hurt from doing a split after listening to cab Calloway and them lol
That intro is so hype! EDIT: This ain't a pick up song, it's a lay down song man. Dude's already got the love and now it's their turn to come and get yo love.
This fool said the Indian walk lmmfao me being NATIVE american that's some funny shit. And this has to be the funniest reaction to this song. There's a lot of NATIVE talent out there we just don't get any recognition.. Thumbs up Mr. Video your quickly becoming my favorite UA-camr no lie!!!
I know I've told you this before, but I'm so glad I found you. I got turned onto reaction videos when those twins were trending on Twitter for the Phil Collins reaction and then I just started looking around. You were the one that appealed to me. In the last few days I've looked around at a few other ones just for comparison. There is NO comparison!! The people are all nice enough, but it's not fun or entertaining like you are. I don't understand how they don't get blocked for not pausing. But on the flip side, the pausing is what makes it fun. It is what gives you the edge! When you pause, you react and you sit in the music and you interact with us and with the song. I think I told you the other day, you do more than just listen to the song, you react to the lyrics in a fun way, you react with the group/artist in a fun way, calling them by name, you react to the beat/dance, etc. and you talk to us and look at the camera. You make it an experience for us. You will outlast the other ones because we are enjoying you as much as the songs. You have your own expressions and comedy! I've never commented this much on anything in my life!
So listen, I’m 53 years old I was four when this song came out I’ve been listening to this song for a long damn time! And I freaking love this song. I had no idea they were Native American. My husband just informed me of this. He knows because his mother God rest her soul was Native American.
What a Sexy song! I went to listen and realized I've heard it many times without knowing the name. Wasn't it in a Tarrantino movie as well? Thank you for the History Lesson!
Everyone thought this was a Black R&B group until we all saw them on this show (The Midnight Special) . They have another big hit called "The Witch Queen From New Orleans." Its scary! They be talikin about this Voo-Doo woman castin spells and stuff. Holloween type scary stuff.
Hey Mr. Video... you skipped music school yesterday! I think there is detention in your future! LOL. Refreshing that many have discovered Native American participation in rock/pop music. This group was quite amazing for their time. Understand their culture is still subject to US government reservations. As they cling to there heritage, we continue to decimate their native land. Pat and "lolly are brothers they are Yaqui Indian and Mexican. That was a native ceremonial pow wow dance he was doing. This song and We were all wounded at wounded knee were there best selling songs. Mr. Video when you get a minute look up Wounded Knee it's something that happened in South Dakota. Redbone wrote a song about that event.
I grew up listening to this song...sang it....loved it, but I never knew these guys were Native American and honestly it just makes me love this song more now. Much Respect!!

Thanks for reacting! Great song! The lead singer is lolly vegas who wrote the song. The base player and backup singer next to him is his younger brother pat vegas. They were incredible. The dancer in Indian costume and lead guitarist is tony bellamy, and the great drummer is Butch rellerio
Wow I'm so glad you picked the video I showed you I'm so happy you are listening this great music wow man you are awesome cause man there great native American music man what a brilliant treat man so happy for you
With respect, I do interact with some Native/indigenous folks who prefer to be called "Indian" for prersonal reasons...I guess it's good for us non-natives to make sure to respect whatever term is preferred by the person/persons your engaging with...
Foolish Ways .... yes it does ... NATIVE, a. 1. Produced by nature; original; born with the being; natural; not acquired; as native genius; native affections; a native talent or disposition; native cheerfulness; native simplicity. 2. Produced by nature; not factitious or artificial; as native ore; native color. 3. Conferred by birth; as native rights and privileges. 4. Pertaining to the place of birth; as native soil; native country; native graves. 5. Original; that of which any thing is made; as mans native dust. 6. Born with; congenial. NATIVE, n. 1. One born in any place is said to be a native of that place, whether country, city or town. 2. Offspring.
My song right here ♥ Major JAM got major playtime on black radio back then. We've always had soul. I just played this a few days ago, lol STUDIO VERSION is much better. Every Saturday at 12am I couldn't wait for The Midnight Special to come on, had all the great performers on.
Redboone and Southern Rock band Blackfoot is the only Native Indian rock bands in the history of music. Blackfoot - Highway Song; Train Train. You will dig the vocals!
The first Native American rock band! They were very proud of their heritage. All but one were cousins (two were brothers and they were cousins with another) and lived in Louisiana. Check out their song We Were All Wounded At Wounded Knee.
I've been hoping you would do this song. And you're right, I've felt for a long time that PowWow dancing has an influence on some hiphop dances. Glad you saw the connection too. I'm thinking about sending you a bracelet I beaded over 40 years ago. I hope you like it!
I was on another reaction channel and someone complimented the fancy dancer on his " awesome mustache." I explained to him that that was not a mustache, it's called " clan paint."
If you want a total experience and a vocal out of this world. Take a few good drags, lay back, eyes closed and drift off to heaven. Pink Floyd Great Gig in the Sky!!
Asked my dad to think of something that youtube couldn't possibly have 10 years ago.. he said Redbone..... He's the man that turned me on to buffalo springfield.
My brother, you should do a reaction to another of their songs called We Were All Wounded at Wounded Knee, it's the only song that DJ's from that time refused to play on air. A'ho It's really worth a listen.
The Lead singer is the uncle to a good friend of mine. Here in New Mexico. Crazy thing is it looks just like him. Stay safe and stay blessed my friend .👍🇺🇸✌

I love it. I'm a Fancy Shawl Dancer which is like the women's equal to the Fancy Dance. If you've never been to a Pow Wow, it's a must!
Was Redbone based in Louisiana?
@@Chrissy-pf5pd Oh yeah, I've been to a few Pow Wows. My Great grandmother was a Tigua Snake Dancer from the Tanoan Pueblo of Isleta in Northern NM

There is a documentary about Native American contributions to rock music. I think Dick Dale of surf music fame is also Native American.

With respect, I do interact with some Native/indigenous folks who prefer to be called "Indian" for prersonal reasons...I guess it's good for us non-natives to make sure to respect whatever term is preferred by the person/persons your engaging with...
@Foolish Ways Gotcha. These are some older folks up in Washington.
@Foolish Ways Washington is so beautiful
I was born here in the US so I guess I’m Native too
Foolish Ways .... yes it does ...

Both of these Blackfoot songs are great suggestions.
Yes. Rickey Medlocke is fantastic
Loved Redbone....come and get your love now...sweet.☮💜
The first Native American rock band! They were very proud of their heritage. All but one were cousins (two were brothers and they were cousins with another) and lived in Louisiana. Check out their song We Were All Wounded At Wounded Knee.
I've been hoping you would do this song. And you're right, I've felt for a long time that PowWow dancing has an influence on some hiphop dances. Glad you saw the connection too. I'm thinking about sending you a bracelet I beaded over 40 years ago. I hope you like it!
Paul Rivere... Indian Reservation
They were not all Native Americans
@@deboralavalley2577 all members of Redbone were native American. Yaqui, Apache, Cherokee and Shoshone.
rocker I meant Paul Revere and the raiders not redbone
@@deboralavalley2577 oh ok. I don't believe that any of them were native.
I was on another reaction channel and someone complimented the fancy dancer on his " awesome mustache." I explained to him that that was not a mustache, it's called " clan paint."
This song came out when I was 6 and was one of the first "rock" songs I remember hearing. It made me the music lover I am today. ❤
soul & groove has no colour young brother...........
eyes wide open my man!
I actually never knew they were native american..wow..love it
Every culture is amazing and SHOULD BE EMBRACED N CELEBRATED!!!!!
Thank you for listening to this man. This is my dads music.
Danmnnnnnn, see the similarity? Love my Indigenous people ❤
If you want a total experience and a vocal out of this world. Take a few good drags, lay back, eyes closed and drift off to heaven. Pink Floyd Great Gig in the Sky!!
AMEN BROTHER WE ALL GOT SOUL, REDBONE WAS A GREAT BAND. SMOOOTH
Asked my dad to think of something that youtube couldn't possibly have 10 years ago.. he said Redbone..... He's the man that turned me on to buffalo springfield.
Love Redbone. I had the biggest crush on Lolly Vegas the lead singer when I was in my teens. Awesome reaction video..
Yay ive been waitin for u to do this one 😁😁😁😁😁
Growing up my Auntie had a 1972 Split Bumber Camero. She would rock Red Bone on the 8 Track.
My brother, you should do a reaction to another of their songs called We Were All Wounded at Wounded Knee, it's the only song that DJ's from that time refused to play on air. A'ho It's really worth a listen.
This song was big when I was a kid. I always loved the drumming - so intricate.
The Lead singer is the uncle to a good friend of mine. Here in New Mexico. Crazy thing is it looks just like him. Stay safe and stay blessed my friend .👍🇺🇸✌
Love it....
