So happy to see Kashmiri sikh family. 2 of my best friend in Kashmir who I grew up with were Sikh. One was a grand daughter of the Lala Rakha building in Lal Chowk. This was went I was 14 years old. I am not sure where are they now. So sad. I miss them.

Kashmir was once part of the Sarkaar e Khalsa Sikh empire of Maharaja Ranjit Singh ,but after the dogra ditching the Sikh Empire and subsequent murder of Maharaja Sher Singh and Naunihal Singh it was lost as the Dogra took sides with British. It's a long story then , but all area of Jammu Kashmir till aksai Cheen ,Tibet gilgit balchisthan was under command of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and there are many historical Gurudwaras also in Kashmir ,so it has been a part of Sikh history.
It is very sad that unfortunately Current India does not has those lands which the Sikh Empire had as most of that land is taken by Pakistan and China ,and now china is heading towards Arunachal Pradesh as well which now it's saying is Chinese territory
Descendants of Ranjit were losers and unable to rule , apni nakari ka ilzam Dogro pr mat lagao , accept kro ki Ranjit Singh ke baad Lahore Darbar mai kisi mai bhi dum bhi tha

There was a time when besides our own regional languages, many Indians spoke three European languages fluently: English, French and Portuguese. We threw out the English but sensibly made their language one of our own. We also threw out the French and the Portuguese from their colonial possessions, but foolishly let their languages die out as well. Few Indians in Chandernagore or Pondicherry speak French. The generation of Goans who once spoke or wrote Portuguese (they had two newspapers as well) is fast dying out. A great pity! It was like throwing out the baby with the bath water. What I wish to emphasize is that the more you steal from other languages, the more you impoverish it. Languages need constant infusion of foreign blood to fight linguistic anaemia.

Kalilash Kher is a very talented self-made chap but he must never ignore the contribution of his Dad Meher Singh in his career. Mehar Singh belongs to the Ravidassi (Mazhabi) Sikh clan and they are known among others to be very good religious musicians. I was posted in Kashmir and know her and her people Kailash Kher has nothing to do with Kashmir. Remember the fake name which has taken up namely Kher does not exist in Kashmir. Anupam Khar is a genuine Kashmiri but out of some kind of complex has changed his name to Kher. Now Wikipedia is working overtime to create a manufactured fake Kashmiri lineage for Kailash Kher. It is possible to some degree some foreigners might absorb this. Since Ashok Pandit is from a rural area and non-educated he married his psychologically compromised cousin to Kalash. Ashok has no knowledge moreover of the caste structure outside Kashmir.
