    Very surprised they didn’t bother to check the entire wing for the gap, it’s so easy to…

    • @supermiaoumix
      @supermiaoumix 28 днів тому

      It might be easy to check but if you have (as a mecanic) to check if the car is legal everywere you just can't (not enough time) :/
      It's the role of the development team to inform the specifications of new parts so the mecanics can work with it and not try to check every new piece that as been developped...

    I still think punishments shall be in line with the effect of the wrongdoing.
    Sometimes drivers push others out so their race ends, sometimes even their championship is over by that move. And goes unpunished or with a joke 5 sec penalty.
    And sometimes a team leaves a gap of 1mm more than should, gains nothing, yet they are kind of excluded from the race.
    Why do waterheaded F1 leaders think this is all right like this? Shame.

      There are two rulebooks. the technical specification and the sporting specification.
      The sporting spec relates to things drivers and teams can do on and off track, everything from jumping the start to pushing drivers off track to speeding in the pit lane. The punishments are handled on a case by case basis and judged by a team of people at the FIA.
      The tech spec relates to the car and equipment itself, everything from tyre pressures to materials used to car design specs.... to DRS slot gaps. The punishments are laid out in the manual itself and are very black and white - either the car obeys the rule, or it does not. There is no judgement or human team reviewing all the issues here, so the punishments can seem severe compared to what's given out for on-track incidents.

    Question from an absolute outsider -- I don't follow F1 racing at all, but I follow this channel because I find the videos fascinating, both the topics and the clear discussions.
    That rule 3.10.10.h says "at their closest positions must lie between 10mm and 85mm." I am no lawyer, I don't play one on TV, but I can imagine lawyerly quibbles. Doesn't this rule mean that if the center gap is, say, 80mm, and the outside gap is 100mm, and nowhere else is the gap less than 80mm, doesn't that satisfy the rule? The closest gap is all that matters, as I see the rule. I don't have a copy of the rulebook, only what is shown at 1:09.
    I ask because it fascinates me that the bureaucrats at F1 think all these rules make for better racing, and apparently the teams put up with it. Me, personally, rules like this drive me crazy, which is probably why I'm not an F1 racing bureaucrat.

    • @BSport320
      @BSport320  Місяць тому

      Thanks, the rule says it shouldn’t be more than 85mm and that’s for the whole span of the wing. So it cannot be 100mm at one point

      @grizwoldphantasia5005 Місяць тому +1

      @@BSport320 Maybe a different rule says that, but 3.10.10.h only describes the closest position, not the widest. I don't mean to be picky, but I've been following legal blogs for a few years, trying to understand lawyers and laws, and 3.10.10.h sure looks like a lawyer wrote it.

      Writing new rules is an under-appreciated activity. It is extremely difficult because you have to attempt to imagine what everyone else might imagine and create sensible limits that achieve the ethos of the rule set.
      It's much easier to work within a set of rules than it is to create them.
      I've done both for many decades.
      This applies to all aspects of society, not just sports. Governments are constantly criticised by the populous because the populous has zero clue what's involved in creating the rules. They just see the flaws and holes based on their hindsight and fail to imagine how difficult it would be to use foresight. They also ignore the rules that work and just focus on the ones that don't.
      This is particularly common amongst blue collar workers and the lower echelons of society.

      @@procatprocat9647 It's a well-known economics problem, paraphrased by me as bureaucrats lacking the knowledge and insight of those with skin in the game. Plus, bureaucrats can only measure their success by how big their budgets are and how many people they supervise, and their paychecks do not imbue them with wisdom or knowledge, nor rid them of their personal biases. That is called Public Choice Economics. If you have never heard of it, you might want o read up on it for an hour or two before defending "hard working" bureaucrats.
