Is it brainwashing when they try to bring out the facts and show them to the world which believes mostly in covered up or changed evidences regarding this? Is it brainwashing when they seek changes in the way these facts are taught so that their future generations can get to know their roots better? Come on,tell me. In what sense do u call this brainwashed, I agree some people are crazy and spread hate in name of sanatana dharma but they r few comparatively. I absolutely love brahmastra but do note that this film and all its assets, possible spin-offs, ideas, cgi, theories etc why the baseline of the whole thing is based on astras which belongs to sanatan dharma whose followers u call brainwashed, I wish no hate. Firstly, the movie has been made for over 8 years. So, cringe cringe things did not matter 10 years back. Nowadays the word cringe is fashionable/trendy. It was not a trendy word in 2014. So, the context of the movie has been set few years back when things were different, movies were different. I too agree Isha's character was not bad in the movie, since along with a super-hero a female character is playing the same war against the evil. Mostly, fantasy movies are all about super-heroes, I think Brahmastra movie is one where a female character has been playing out till the end.

      Yeah the movie has flaws, although I don't find the love part concept wise cringe, it was more executive wise cringe. I don't understand why people are finding the love segment concept wise cringe. Ik that Bollywood is an overdose of unrealistic romances, but as a person who's been in love and is in love and as a human who values love, I don't find it wrong to show love onscreen and giving it screentime. See, they've made Agni as the protagonist's Astra which is a good choice since VFX scope is huge with it. But don't you think that fire has both positive and negative connotation? The movie beautifully moved from the negatively all consuming aspect of fire (shiva's fear and PTSD) to positive all consuming aspect of fire (the fire of love, which blossoms due to love and for love). They had to show a love story if they have to give a positive meaning to Agni. Junoon is another aspect of Agni element if you know. In the end it's all going to be about the battle between the constructive user of Agni Astra and destructive user of Agni Astra. It's imp to make that differentiation and they could do it only with a love story segment- or more like love emanating from within which rages like burning fire.

    Dear Ayan Mukherji, first of all I must commend you for your technical achievements with this film. The VFX and visuals are top-notch, you have really raised the standards for technology in Bollywood👏👏 But besides that, the rest of the movie is quite disappointing in terms of writing, dialogues, and storyline. Please move away from cliché coming of age love stories and cringy old school Bollywood tropes. The audience has evolved and you should understand this and meet their expectations. Focus on the world-building and character development and make the movie about the ASTRAS. We are tired of watching the same old boring cliché Bollywood romance where guy and girl meet once and immediately fall in love and become obsessed with each other. Where is the build up, the tension, the conflict? Write better dialogues and stop making grown adults talk like children. Give talented actors like Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt more to work with than just one-dimensional characters. The first movie was really underwhelming, the only reason people are watching in theatres is because of the novelty of the VFX and visual spectacle. But you must understand this novelty will wear off soon. Please focus on not just the technology but also the WRITING. You are very lucky that people are still giving you a second chance to make a sequel so please take in all the criticism and feedback to make major improvements to part 2🙏🙏

    Coming from the perspective of an Indian anime fan who is really into fantasy genre,... This movie was a good theatre experience but underwhelming overall or mediocre to be specific.
    I think the movie has very little lore that actually makes its universe, powers, lore unique.
    The build-up of powers, magic system, in-universe history, is non-existent n too generic.
    Only good thing about it is the implementation of the powers themselves, the Astra designs, choreography n fights n obviously VFX.
    Other than that everything else about the astras is so generic.
    For people who don't know the language, they'll feel that the concepts something interesting... N cool
    But apart from the names, nothing is fully dived into, n explored properly.
    Astra = weapon
    Vanara = Monkey
    Agni = Fire
    Jala = water
    Pavana = wind
    Prabhata = dawn (i think)
    Varara Astra = Monkey weapon
    Agni Astra = fire weapon
    Etc etc...
    Brahma Astra = Brahma's weapon
    The name of the guardians = Brahmansh = Brahma ansh
    Ansh = essence or parts or portion
    So, Brahmansh = those who comprise a portion of energy of Brahma (a deity)
    Apart from these names, which when the meaning is known is not much impressive, n a group of guardians who are trained in these astras from generation to generation, there is no exploration of the lore, the significance of the astras or their mastery, training, mental state necessary to harness n control them etc...
    The antagonist's name is "dev", which means "demigod" or " deity" or " god"
    And Junoon calls him " Brahmdev" meaning "lord Brahma",. Because she considers Brahma to be the most powerful?
    I think that's the logic there...
    And the writers did such a lazy job that, they used the name " Brahma" everywhere to signify something which is very great or extraordinarily powerful...
    The pattern Of...
    Brahma Astra ( most powerful weapon according to the movie)
    Brahmadev (antagonist's name)
    Brahmansh ( the guardians trained in astras, even though we were not given any details about how to harness, control, n master them)
    Etc etc....
    So lazy writing....
    The fact that nothing is anywhere taking actual inspiration from any Indian history/epics, let alone being inspired by them... Except for the names, n some random terminology, and
    nothing deep is explored, even in the direction of fantasy elements, on the in-universe dynamics of the astras etc...
    I don't expect they should be true to the hindu texts in their inspirations and be truthful to it n not makeup anything, ... That won't work for a fantasy superhero genre, but WHAT IS NECESSARY FOR A FANTASY SUPERHERO GENRE is the INWORLD PHYSICS, LOGICS, WHYS, DEFINING THE POWERS N HOW TO HARNESS N CONTROL THEM, ETC.
    ----
    The fact that according to the Mahabharata and other scriptures, Brahmastra is one of the powerful astras (celestial weapons) but it is not the most powerful astra, and i don't think it is in top 3 even.
    And all other astras in the movie were all generic astras in the scriptures used during the Mahabharata war or in Ramayana or other ancient times.
    Even none of those astras were anywhere explained, or explored in the movies in any detail even by taking any artistic choices.
    Only one good thing is their designs. Apart from that nothing is great. And I'm not much impressed by the VFX because I've seen far greater implementations, designs and adaptations of weapons and powers in more innovative ways in Anime.
    The fact that the movie advertised to be inspired by ancient Indian weapons... Is a joke, because they didn't do any research, or they didn't put any effort into taking inspiration and creating their own power system, (EXCEPT for the bracelet/anklet designs and the VFX implementation, which are the only good things about it).
    At least a training montage or some deep lore, or back story based on other Hindu concepts like reincarnation or karma, or wasanas, or yoga or prana or chakras ... Nothing is explored.
    In Naruto, the term Chakra is used, but is used with totally different meaning, however, Masashi kishimoto made his own version of the concept called chakra, loosely based on the original concept of chakras.
    Or the deep vedantic philosophy is adapted and incorporated in Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood, so organically which has become the central philosophy around which the entire alchemy and it's rules are framed upon. The actual lore is not taken in FMAB, but the actual philosophy is fully inspired from vedantic philosophy and based on that the mangaka Hiromu arakawa has fully created a whole new lore, concepts, power system, rules and philosophy that becomes Central to the themes, plot, character arcs, powers and the story as a whole. This is true research and taking inspiration from something and adapting it, by keeping the essence of the source but transforming, adapting it into something different. That's creativity.
    Or another way to take inspiration is Dragonball where, the entire world, planets, king Yama, god's, etc are all created brand new by taking inspiration from Buddhist/ Hinduism, Egyptian and other lore... And making it unique to the show... Which needs a lot of creativity. This is the level of inspiration one can take from a mythology or history, lore of a culture and adapt it n making it unique to the movie/ show.
    Even something like these as in these mentioned anime are expected when the director apparently has put 10 years to come up with this and has said multiple times how much inspired it is from Indian Epics, n they have researched it deeply.
    But except names, and lazy terminology, nothing is properly addressed for it to be a decent fantasy movie... Let alone a great one.. as they advertised it to be, with being inspired by ancient texts n 10 yrs of making. JOKE!!
    Even Marvel is a great example to take inspiration from Greek/Nordic mythologies to create a whole different worlds around it with characters and lore..
    Brahmastra was enjoyable to watch on the big screen, and it did give a awe experience (but nowhere near any other blockbuster movies recent years), but the positives end there.
    The screenplay and writing was also so lame, that there were zero goosebumps or hype moments in the movie (except for the initial Sharukh Khan one).
    In addition, Junoon, Nagarjuna's artist character and Tenzing r interesting... But That's it.
    I genuinely hoped this will be a decent attempt to be a good high budget fantasy movie from India, but turns out except VFX there is nothing great about the story or writing
    ---------------
    THE FACT THAT THE CINEMATIC UNIVERSE IS NAMED ASTRAVERSE, BUT THE CENTRAL THING OF IT BEING ASTRAS ARE NOT EXPLAINED AT ALL.... OR DELVED INTO FOR A BETTER POWERUPs adding nuances to the powers n choreography etc
    And no effort is put into actually creating something unique for the movie where they have specific rules, training, techniques, mastery of those, the mental concentration and inner state necessary to control the astras (because it is "claimed" to be inspired from Hindu lore), the activation of chakras or pranas
    Or any other reasoning that will help them master these astras,
    Or channeling something like Chi or prana sakti into the physical astras to activate them and form a etherial form of them to fight .... ,
    Or control the senses and meditate, train in harsh climate to master one's concentration that's necessary to control the astras ....
    Or may be some proper back story about how different astras are granted to different sages (shown at the beginning of the movie) in ancient times, and their individual significance, theme, intention, ANY PERSONALITY TO THE ASTRAS THEMSELVES, the different ways necessary to activate different type of astras,
    Or different personality traits (they can come up with the astrology part of the Hindu lore) that are in unison with different astras which can maximize their potential, and Explore the implications of their personality traits by birth vs their acquired traits due to their experience that effects their control over the astras....
    Or may be different realms/dimensions of the elements where each astra operates from and can mix up dimension or time dilation concepts or of the puranas... To take the astras to different level and increase the complexity of their usage that can unlock a while different level of choreography and action sequences....
    Or the most basic... The compatibility and effectiveness if each astra with different astras... And their matchups....
    ANY IDEA IS BETTER... BUT NOTHING... NOTHING IS EXPLORED ABOUT THE ACTUAL MECHANICS OF THE ASTRAs the central part of the plot of he "cinematic universe" they want to create.
    ("not just put on the bracelets and wave the hands and concentrate on it?" I think that's what shown in the movie)
    EVEN IF THEY REALLY WANT TO SHOW LOVE IS IMPORTANT TO OVERPOWER THE ASTRAS, fine... There is bhatki concepts of unconditional transcendental love, which can be explored, where one channels one's devotion and love for God into others around them, which materializes into soul level bonding between Shiva and Isha ( the main protagonists) , that will enhance the control of the astra because of the harmony better two souls and their love that ultimately can flow into the astra to harness it's true potential.
    ( Instead of the version they have in the movie, where the romantic relationship is what trumps the ancient super powerful astras, the celestial weapons)
    NO CREATIVITY AT ALL...
    EVEN, during my short burst of a rant, I myself came up with so many different unique ideas which are actually taking some inspiration from the Vedic/puranic lore instead of lazy work of random lazy naming stuff and calling it inspiration and claiming it took 10 years to come up with he creative concepts, JOKE...
    If these issues are little bit looked into and expanded upon, may be part 2 n 3 would be actually great. . I hope part 2 has something more ... But if not... Please expand on the actual astras ..

      firstly hats off to you for writing all this. i absolutely agree with you on everything u said... in one interview ayan did say that astraverse and astras backstory will further be explored in next two parts but yeah i feel they should have still added a bit more of than in this movie

      Really agree with your thoughts except at one part,you gave eg of Marvel and Norse mythology. That's never possible in India, people will maul him alive if Ayan ever did that.
      Well, to give him benefit of the doubt ,I guess that's might be why the culture inspiration was so loose in Astrastraverse.
      Ayan is actually well aware how sensitive people can be ,thus, he probably felt it's better to create something entirely different than take something as it is with a twist.
      ---
      The world building was not good and definitely would hv loved to see more of Bramhash society but maybe since it's the first part he didn't want to reveal everything.
      ---
      I liked the suggestion of using constellation . It's definitely sounds interesting . Now this makes me wonder how Ayan is going to explain the usage of the Astra.
      ----
      I hope that he reads this comment bcs it does point out some critical points that's need to be considered to make Astrastraverse a good fantasy tale.

      I'll just say 1 thing buddy.
      They've not explored the depths of our history culture texts and lore because depth is directly proportional to niche. More the depth, more niche the audience becomes, reduces audience size they're catering to, increases losses when initial investment is so high, therefore not feasible for a developing country and economy like ours to undertake.
      Sticking to just minimal lore, reduced depth, using only names and etymology to build a fantasy Universe where little is left for explaining and hence little is left from viewer to understand and grab in terms of depth, increases the audience size they're setting out to reach. It reaches out to children audience more easily. There's a reason why 6-7 year old kids aren't into anime as ferociously as their teenage counterparts. Anime world needs time and depth to understand. Anime audience is hence, very niche. They can afford it, but movie industry like India can't afford. Nonetheless we got to see a movie like brahmastra because atleast few of the wealthest of the wealthy (is products of nepotism) have enough capital to undertake a project like this. They have the money and the means so they did it, but being niche at this stage is a bad business decision. Art and business has to go hand in hand today.

      @@meghnachoudhury1622 agree to the reason why anime has a niche audience,me myself I'm an anime fan but you see the problem is also that in india's there is a high risk that you will hurt other people's sentiments directly/ indirectly by going deep and using our history, stories and the only way to not get that problem is to create a 98% exact copy of your inspirations like old TV Mahabharat and ramayan tv series did , but to create any superhuman heroic an verse type thing like brahmastra without changing the stories is not possible bc then it wouldn't longer be called a fic movie but just a adaptation.
      You gave example of Marvel, in that they have taken creative freedom changed the look of thors from a big healthy guy or bulky one, no one in masses complaint it but, i can't imagine a scenario happening here in India already explained above,
      Here you just can't say we are staying true to many depth thing (not quite literally and extract as you have said it yourself)
      I think there def were many obvious flaws in part 1 but we should consider the fact that this is first time in Indian cinema where they have tried to make a trilogy out of being inspired from our stories and all , other than bahubali
      So a chance to really explore the themes , concepts, power should be given
      Marvel example, in thor 1 majority of audience thought of Loki as a mentally unstable person who saw trauma and become villian only later to discover the complexities of his chr
      Or even in anime of attack on Titan before the story progressed we were obliged to think the world is limited within the walls & origin of Titans with a few little subtle hints and not many foreshadowing things it's only when the world building happened we got Zeke, the betrayal and all...
      We all should keep our expectations minimal and hope for the best for as we all want good films to be produced in india as well

      @@inthe_among_us yes I totally agree. It's a lose-lose situation for a filmmaker in India. If you focus on modern cinema then audience would crib for originality and culture rooted stuff. If they dabble in mythology and history then they face bans n burns n morcha. Thank God I'm not a filmmaker 😛 we're at such a dilemma as a nation on historical matters, even calling something mythology triggers people. Clothes color hair moustache beard bla bla everything is scrutinized, just like a prime time coverage on adipurush and PS1 controversy!
