Family Uses 100-Year-Old Stove: ‘It’s Like a Miracle’
Вставка

- JoAnn Saladino and Marcus Weisgerber purchased a General Electric stove in 1979 for about $100. Even then, the stove was something of an antique. It was made in the early 1920s. The Long Island, New York, family showed off the aged appliance, which still works. It even has a bread warmer. And the stove isn’t the family’s only working piece of history; their refrigerator dates back to the early 1930s. “We never had it repaired or anything,” they told Inside Edition. #InsideEdition

I love how that’s a modern kitchen and there’s just a 100 year old stove right in the middle.
I think we didn't watch the same vid. Their kitchen is like 30 years old, nothing modern in there
@@newtonstesla9445 Even if that kitchen was from 1990, it's still modern compared to a stove from 1920...
i love how this is a video about an old stove ... lol
It’s not 100 years old. It will be in 2024
It's not modern. It's very 2010s
Meanwhile this generation of ovens, stoves and fridge breaks purposely.

We outsource our parts in foreign lands cause it's cheaper and less effort than getting/making in America 😁

Because they want people to waste they money over and over
So agree!
They aren't lucky, they just kept damn good care of it. Just look at how pristine that thing is.
They’re lucky that the original owners did when they bought it secondhand. Good on them for keeping up with both appliances.

My mom has a green dryer from the early 70's that still works today and gets extremely hot. I told my mom a few years ago to upgrade to a newer and she said, "Why my dryer still works!" Appliances that were made in the older generations will ALWAYS work FOREVER.
Lipstick Bear a lot of people who owned an Atari as a kid and never got rid of it still have a working Atari.
Because it wasn't made in China
RIP her electricity bill. I’d get a heat pump for day to day use but not get rid of the old one and keep it in the garage as a trusty spare.
@@HellsYeah8 things don’t last very long these days no matter where it’s made

@@BrotherFin 5 years is a stretch
It’s not luck, it’s craftsmanship from people who cared about their customers and stood behind their products. If something is built to last these days it costs an arm and a leg because the company can’t make a continual profit off of you. I wish more business models resembled this level of integrity.
And so convenient, because you can actually clean underneath the stove every time you use it. Love it 💘

Wish stoves were still this beautiful. Nothing has as much style as it used to
That stove is gorgeous I would love one. On a side note my grandmother on my mom's side still used a cast iron stove my grandfather found till the day she passed. She died 60 some years ago suddenly and way too soon cuz she was stubborn about a medical issue and didn't seek help. Feisty little thing I'm told.
Too bad you didnt get that stove and I'm sure it'll take several strong guys to carry it in your house but it would've been worth it.
My Grandparents in Newfoundland had something like that. We never thought it was a big deal it was just a stove.
However I will say that their stove is a lot better condition than my grandparents was. I don't know if they polished there's with dd7 or something. There's looks really nice though

Looks like back in the days some of those appliances works way more better than the ones of today!!!!
My grandma 77 year old grandma has a baking ban she inherited from her great grandma. It’s really corroded but it still works fine. It’s probably at least 130 years old.
Windscreen wiper blades only last 6 months now when once I'd get years of service from them. Companies need our stuff to break. They're not content with ultimate quality any more.
That's the thing about 100-year-old appliances like these.
They were built to last.
Meanwhile, a majority of modern day appliances break apart after two years to where you have to replace it.
That's so awesome. Sometimes I wish I was born in early 1900's but then I'd be dead by now..
*My 5 year old stove won’t even work...*

GE made things so solid and long lasting . Would love to have that woman's 1924 GE Stove. My House was built in 1924...its almost 100 years old too. It would fit in well in my Kitchen ! Great video !
Correction, it’s 95 years old.

I love the way that stove and refrigerator look. I am very surprised it still works!
My apartment still has the original appliances from the 70s. They work really well. The fridge gets super cold and my stove gets really hot.
The stuff today is made to be replaced. The stuff from the 1930's wasn't designed to be replaced. lol
My house has had 2 stoves that broke within 5 years
I love those vintage appliances and I wish that they would design them again, they would be a big seller!
Better quality back then, it was made to last.❤

Wow. It looks like it’s caving in a bit. It’s amazing that it still works.

I have a freezer from the 70s. They used to make things to last.
That's a beautiful stove the craftsmanship is unbelievable.

They're living my vintage dream!
This edition is what I needed the inside of.
Those aren’t “lucky appliances.” This isn’t surprising at all. Everything used to be built very well, and built to last a long time. Nowadays nothing is built well. That’s not because they CAN’T build it well... think of our technology! It’s because of something called “planned obsolescence.”
That means when a company manufactures something, they design it so that it will break at a certain time period-ALWAYS after the warranty. That’s happened to all of us, where something breaks and it’s been 2 months since the warranty expired. That wasn’t chance, that was planned! Evil humans. 😈
That was back when 90% of EVERYTHING was made in America.. That's why it's still in perfect condition...
Cool. I have seen and used older wood stoves, but never an electric one that old. I also have a gas stove from the 1940's in storage, it was used up until 4-5 years ago. Originally with coal gas, and then converted to natural gas.
Beautiful vintage appliances
Appliances pre-1980s, when things were built to last. I have a passion for vintage appliances. I haven't come across an old fridge in my price range yet, but always looking. Now they build things to break.. aka... to prop up the economy.
Hi JoAnne and Marcus! Beautiful stove and refrigerator...love guys you both look great!
Well when you look at the stove it’s VERY clean which I feel shows that they take care of it which might be one reason it’s lasted longer
They had such better style back then than we do today
