hey, just a brief explanation because the anime didn't explain it at all (the explanation has been cut), so the abilities of betelgueuse to take over bodies has nothing to do with the fact that he is an archbishop. It have to do with his "species", he is a spirit (a special kind, not all of them can do that), he has the abilities to take over bodies of people who don't have contract with a spirit, that was Subaru case, and also his great affinity with spirit didn't help, that why the body was so great. normally you were supposed to learn it in the conversation following the "I think he can possess me too". So in for that case Subaru is not sus sry for my english not my first language
And also for Subaru ejecting betelgueuse off his body, can be explain by a simple "abilities that I don't want to divulge" or "secret technique" but yes there are known characters who would have found it very sus

Minor/Potential SPOILER ⚠️ The suffering, the "resolution", and even the unexpected returns and newly introduced characters. I love them all. I'm kinda skeptical about season 3 since word has it that it'll most likely be 25 episodes, which is very clearly not enough for both arcs to be adapted. Unless if they're planning to end at a mid point in arc 6 that is. Then again, now that I'm thinking about it, arc 5 was really not that long since it has a ton of fights within it which is typically not that long to adapt unlike full dialogue scenes.
@@ManofSteelAstronaut there is a character in the poster that only appears at the very end of arc 6 so it's both arc 5 and 6. Both need 20 episodes at least to be adapted properly. We don't know how long the season is just that it's more than 25 episodes

There actually ARE 'what if' stories in re:zero. Generally what if Subaru made a different decision, like what if he DID run away with Rem. Nothing animated though, just an Easter egg in the novel. You can check them out on youtube, there are some readings of them and stuff, but let someone warn you when you can read which one to avoid spoilers.
And that's season 1 done, that was a ride and a half!. Im late, but i just wanted to say that your reaction's to this show have been a personal highlight for me every week. This is my personal favorite show and you guys delivered easily the best reaction i have seen to it. Now to get hyped for the OVA, movie and of course season 2. Wich i am equally excited about!.
I would recommend watching a Re:Zero Break Time Season 2 episode alongside each regular season 2 episode. Re:Zero Break Time is a series of shorts each about 2 minutes, the first season is mostly gags and is largely unnecessary but some of the second season's episodes have important lore/expand on some of the characters.
I think I'm mostly just envious you guys get to dive straight into s2 instead of waiting the 4 years. But I'm glad. See you all next week to dive into the arc that really sets the stage for the future of re:zero

A foreshadowing maybe ? The author also confirmed that Arc 1/Ep1-3 is the most important arc in the series...

the reason he’s remembering that moment is because hes comparing her look back then to now. if you remember, that was the end of the first episode of the series. and it was meant to show the distance between both of them, now that distance has been closed and subaru is realizing how far hes come. remember, the end of episode 1 also did the eye reflecting thing, and its done here again to show us that comparison at the end. subaru does remember his first loop, he even says it to emilia. so it has been brought up before. emilia is very likely not satella but maybe fulfills a similar role to satella or possibly is a vessel or key to unlocking her. emilia has something to do with the door in her home village, shes one of two people in the re zero world who can open that door. my guess is satella is possibly that other person? so emilia and satella probably are being used for some grand purpose by pandora? what it is, i have no clue. also lastly, emilias mom is a witch and her dad is a full blood elf. they said emilia is possibly related to satella, although its unclear if they mean because shes an elf or because shes literally related to her. but she has to be an aunt or grandmother to her. one final thing to mention is the “shadow garden” from re zero. these are completely cut from the anime, but basically every once in a while subaru will be appear in some “shadow garden” where he talks to someone. the nature od these talks is never clear, just vague wording. very likely the witch of envy or satella, or both. when subaru enters echidnas castle of dreams, hes immediately hit by some unknown deja vu. so that means subaru has been talking to satella periodically up to this point and forgets about it like he originally did with echidna. finally, last point sorry for the long comment. satellas body is literally still alive, her body is somewhere. they said it way back but she was sealed away. echidna stated she has the souls of the “5 other witches” which is why subaru was able to talk to them in her closed space. but 5 witches plus herself means one extremely important detail, how did satella show up? if echidna doesn’t have her soul, where she did come from? its not emilia, subaru was in the trial space by himself. so that leaves ONLY subaru. and theres been some very very tiny cut details from the novel that suggest subaru has satellas soul stored inside him. for example, in the second trial, when it showed subaru cutting his throat and they try to revive him, they removed something from the novels. this was even removed from the LN. But shadows starting coming out of subarus neck and contorting his body like a puppet and his friends started freaking out
The anime never explains Betelgeuse possession, so here goes: Betelgeuse is a spirit. He gained a human body but in exchange can't live outside one. He can only take over the bodies of those with an affinity with spirits, but only those without a contract It's the reason he considers Julius and other spirit users a natural enemy, since he can't posses them and is more vulnerable to their attacks It's also the reason Ia (the red spirit) was expelled from Subaru's body when he was possessed What this implies about his rant to Puck I'll leave to your imagination
Please watch Memory of snow and Frozen bond before start season 2 so many people just skip it and miss lots of information. And if you start Frozen bond dont forget mysterious women's voice in start of show thats very important.

The great thing about the forshadowing in the novels is, Subaru *felt* something was off, but he intentionally focused on saving Emilia believing he needs a clear purpose in order to convey his feelings for her. He ignored the warning calls. And this is the big part of the reason the realization hit him so hard. Must have felt like betrayal for him.

The classic movie car chase before the finale. Subaru chases the car bomb inside is the girl he loves. Then found a random taxi with a retired crazy Nas Car driver(Otto) Subaru: "follow that carriage no matter what!" Otto: how fast do you want me to drive? Runs thru the Forrest, drives on the side of the cliff and jumps over the bridge. And a help from a random guy(Wilhelm) clearing a path. Then the slow motion -ran to the woods "batman" bomb rescue- well the ending lap pillow scene makes me happy. It's been 6 years but I like this ending the best. "you're not the one" as she expected Subaru, so she might not exactly be rejecting him personally, but was simply looking for Subaru. So you're not Subaru. the thing that a lot of people miss is that the banter between Subaru and Julius is sort of how guy best friends talk to each other, they insult and mock each other as they feel comfortable about it. Subaru won't admit it but I think if there's a person outside of Reinhard that - at this point - he trusts more it's Julius.
If you guys feel like you are too uneasy about the fact that nothing bad happened in the end, then you should watch the last few minutes of the last episode in the directors cut version.

Isn't japanese but the fictional language of that world. Japanese has the easier syllable system called kana (hiragana and katakana) and the more complicated Kanji. What Subaru wrote is in the equivalent of that world kana system.
15:16 yes in anime they made a lot of changes to this scene probably because they wanted to finish season with less question marks and a happier tone, i won't spoil any anime but will point out the differences: In the original after the explosion Subaru is in the dark space you saw in this episode where Petelgeuse got rejected but instead Satella calling Subaru "i love you" again and again and again, and the strange thing is Subaru really reaaaaaally wants to respond to her love with love of his own but there comes a light and another voice calling Subaru's name. He chooses to go to light and meet up with Emilia but also wants to promise to Satella that he will be back though he had no mouth so he couldn't convey but despite that Satella responds with "i will be waiting"

While abridged does hold up to someone unfamiliar with the series [my wife watched it and still hasn't seen the original] I do fear it would color the enjoyment of the original and, as with any parody, you do miss a bit without context.

one difference between the conversation between Sobaru and Emilia and that with Rem is Rem actually said the things she loved about Sobaru while Subaru just as usual says I ll name 1000 thing and didn't say any single one. mby many of the things he loves about Emilia she wouldn't recognise but I can't help but feel Sobaru's love is just a crush going too far while Rem's love is real
Rem is creepy obsessed. And again in narration of the lap pillow scene he says he fell in love. He fell in love in that episode. Before that it was a crush but after Emilia took care of him at his lowest he fell in love. Rem is obsessed. She watches him in his sleep every morning and in a sidestory drugged him with something that would make him say the truth to get a confession for him between arc 2 and 3

The directors cut was airing before s2 to build up hype. There isn't much in it. Just a little bit of uncencoring in a few scenes and some animation quality fixes in a few scenes. The only thing worthwhile was the end scene. However thay scene was added to episode 1 of S2. So you did not miss anything. Neither did Ana or Ben. I don't understand why they want them to react to the scene twice. The directors cut was just to build hype

and no, you missed the point of Emilia and the special treatment entirely. She said "I hoped you'd be one person who wouldn't look at me different than others." This is Emilia saying "people hate me and look at me horribly." Subaru said "I can't do that with you, never with you." And Emilia took that as him saying "I'll treat you like the others have." which he then proved by saying how much he did for her and how much she owes him. They aren't listening to each other and are assuming the worst. Subaru has just saved her life again and apologised for being an ass, and told her again he loves her. Emilia still doesn't trust him or believe him because she's a horrible person who doesn't think a person nearly dying multiple times is someone she can trust. She is enjoying being treated special at this moment because she's a spoilt child and enjoying being treated special for once. It has nothing to do with good and bad desires, it's Emilia not listening to Subaru.
People always see the "Subaru is not listening" part and ignore the rest. By no means that makes it better for him but I've seen people think the rest are just nice and mature when it is totally not the case

Hell nah, Memory Snow is great. Funny as shit, adds some pieces of lore and characterization that really benefit the story in the long run and partly make up for the copious amounts of cut content and also has a lot of nice foreshadowing for s2 that’s really fun to look at in retrospective.
My main complain is fan service. Especially the behavior of characters. I feel like it made me dislike Rem to the point i couldn't stand her in the begining of season 2. They made her already straightforward nature as flat as possible

It’s just a comedy-centered side story, no shit it’s not going to be as deep as the rest of the series; Rem isn’t even bad in it, she’s mostly a gag character but her behavior reflects her deep-rooted personality issues that we dealt with in the second arc, just brought to the extreme for comedic value.

The great thing about the forshadowing in the novels is, Subaru *felt* something was off, but he intentionally focused on saving Emilia believing he needs a clear purpose in order to convey his feelings for her. He ignored the warning calls. And this is the big part of the reason the realization hit him so hard. Must have felt like betrayal for him.

"you're not the one" as she expected Subaru, so she might not exactly be rejecting him personally, but was simply looking for Subaru. So you're not Subaru. I didn't think of that, I also thought she rejected him completely. She may still be.
Gonna be nice to have some friendly snowy eps coming up. Looking forward to them and season 2, even if season 2 is comparatively slower paced

the thing that a lot of people miss is that the banter between Subaru and Julius is sort of how guy best friends talk to each other, they insult and mock each other as they feel comfortable about it. Subaru won't admit it but I think if there's a person outside of Reinhard that - at this point - he trusts more it's Julius.

If you guys feel like you are too uneasy about the fact that nothing bad happened in the end, then you should watch the last few minutes of the last episode in the directors cut version.

Isn't japanese but the fictional language of that world. Japanese has the easier syllable system called kana (hiragana and katakana) and the more complicated Kanji. What Subaru wrote is in the equivalent of that world kana system.
So I have to conclude you've never seen the movie _Beetlejuice,_ which gives you the (mostly) correct pronunciation of Betelgeuse.

In the original after the explosion Subaru is in the dark space you saw in this episode where Petelgeuse got rejected but instead Satella calling Subaru "i love you" again and again and again, and the strange thing is Subaru really reaaaaaally wants to respond to her love with love of his own but there comes a light and another voice calling Subaru's name. He chooses to go to light and meet up with Emilia but also wants to promise to Satella that he will be back though he had no mouth so he couldn't convey but despite that Satella responds with "i will be waiting"

While abridged does hold up to someone unfamiliar with the series [my wife watched it and still hasn't seen the original] I do fear it would color the enjoyment of the original and, as with any parody, you do miss a bit without context.

i was so confused that the end was different, after reading the comments, turns out there is a directors cut? is that from the BD sale? never even heard that there were 2 different ends
The directors cut was airing before s2 to build up hype. There isn't much in it. Just a little bit of uncencoring in a few scenes and some animation quality fixes in a few scenes. The only thing worthwhile was the end scene. However thay scene was added to episode 1 of S2.

She said "I hoped you'd be one person who wouldn't look at me different than others."
This is Emilia saying "people hate me and look at me horribly."
Subaru said "I can't do that with you, never with you."
And Emilia took that as him saying "I'll treat you like the others have." which he then proved by saying how much he did for her and how much she owes him.
They aren't listening to each other and are assuming the worst.
Subaru has just saved her life again and apologised for being an ass, and told her again he loves her. Emilia still doesn't trust him or believe him because she's a horrible person who doesn't think a person nearly dying multiple times is someone she can trust.
She is enjoying being treated special at this moment because she's a spoilt child and enjoying being treated special for once. It has nothing to do with good and bad desires, it's Emilia not listening to Subaru.
People always see the "Subaru is not listening" part and ignore the rest. By no means that makes it better for him but I've seen people think the rest are just nice and mature when it is totally not the case

Hell nah, Memory Snow is great. Funny as shit, adds some pieces of lore and characterization that really benefit the story in the long run and partly make up for the copious amounts of cut content and also has a lot of nice foreshadowing for s2 that’s really fun to look at in retrospective.
My main complain is fan service. Especially the behavior of characters. I feel like it made me dislike Rem to the point i couldn't stand her in the begining of season 2. They made her already straightforward nature as flat as possible

It’s just a comedy-centered side story, no shit it’s not going to be as deep as the rest of the series; Rem isn’t even bad in it, she’s mostly a gag character but her behavior reflects her deep-rooted personality issues that we dealt with in the second arc, just brought to the extreme for comedic value.
