Urdu was created in Delhi and U.P. in the 1300's as a fusion of Kabuli Farsi and Khari Boli ( Delhi Hindi).The Turkish and Arabic words were already imbedded in Afghan Persian.They still are. Back then in the days of the Sultanate , Delhi was not full of Punjabis like it is now. That was caused by partition which was a huge mistake. It’s so strange that their is an active refusal of teaching
    Punjabi in academia and teaching future generations the Punjabi language. More than half of Pakistan speaks a form in Punjabi and the langauge its self is thousands of years old. I understand the importance of Urdu as a language of cross-cultural communication but their needs to be a push for honoring, and officially protecting Punjabi and all regional languages.

      @@MisterTMH No one is ramming Urdu down the throats of Punjabis. Punjab is in majority and can easily make their own choices. Unlike Bengali, Punjabi is very close to Urdu and vice versa so it doesn't bother us to be bilingual. Punjabi remains the cultural and rural language. It is not my fault if Punjabis don't feel the need to completely replace one with the other. Ingress of Urdu is very much organic here. I agree with your observation about Bengal.

    • @SayVeritatis
      @SayVeritatis 3 місяці тому

      @@MisterTMH Not necessarily fact but rather my opinion: Urdu is a highly advance and refined language making it way superior to Hindi. Listen to both languages and you notice a class difference. Similarly Persian sounds superior to me than Urdu even though I don't speak Persian. Urdu also has some great poetry which is unmatched even by English language. There is a reason why Urdu attracts people in Pakistan. It is not just government sponsorship. Try opening a TV channel in a local language and see how successful it gets even though majority of public lives in villages and speaks local languages more than Urdu.

It is vital to be able to read Arabic since that is the language of the revelation so that it remains intact in its original form and not corrupted like the Bible with its many man made interpolations and versions. Moreover we study the exegesis of the Quran and the grammar of the Arabic language so that we understand the religion. Urdu was imported as a link language in a country where the languages on the street vary from province to province. Punjabi is not written or taught in Pakistani Punjab. It is very much written , spoken , taught and read in Indian Punjab. Urdu is an imported language from Delhi/ Uttar Pradesh to serve and a common language in an imaginary country hived off from NW India.The former lingua franca before the British arrived and seized Punjab and Sindh by force was Dari ( Kabuli Farsi).
