ButterCandy on sai, theres an option under the "selection" tab to "expand selection by 1 pixel". to select the entire body, you need to use the magic wand select tool and increase the color difference to just below 255 and then select on the body. then just expand the selection over and over again. i have that option set to my "i" key so i can just hold it down to do that quickly.
oh, then you "trim to selection" under the canvas tab. almost forgot to say thats how you make the canvas the size of the selection.
