Lmao so Wellz says explanations make things worse, then goes on to provide an example of a long-winded explanation he would use.
In his explanation he would've been admitting that he let other people use both him and her. However, it's a situation that's always going to get worst before it gets better. Emotions are high and everything is life or death here. Hughie couldn't figure out what to say cause he was trying to balance out what he should say and could say to salvage the situation with Starlight without putting himself and The Boys in more danger than they already were. In the end he chose to protect The Boys since they were the ones in a more precarious situation and he knew them better and he knew that the world needed them and their mission.

The series is very different from the comic ... so this may not be the case in the series, but in the comic Compound V was developed by the Nazis to try and create super soldiers, then Vogelbaum (the scientist) went to the USA - like some of the German rocket scientists ended up helping NASA. There's a rumour that there will be a Nazi superhero in the next season. So Homelander wasn't the first (at least, not in the comic).
