Loving this one :D Haswell is somewhat more overlooked than ever, especially cheap Xeon options. I guess that after seeing RandomGamingInHD and Tech Yes City people would be flocking at cheap Xeons, but I guess the dishonest try from LTT to paint them bad really did a great job in ruining their reputation. I dont know should I Feel happy or sad, but the thing is, this situation just allows us to build more budget bangers. :) Thank you!
Yes LTT don’t get me started lol put me down if we turn to that! I would be looking forward to the 6th and 7th generation Xeon’s but they don’t work on normal consumer boards! Why Intel! I guess we’ll have to make do with Ryzens for the budget powerhouses of the future… who knows. Thanks for the comment Antonio and great point as always 🙏🏼
@@andystech101 I agree on the Ryzen point looking at my local market. Cheapest brand new Ryzen boards are 50% or more cheaper than the LGA 1200 or LGA 1700 right now, but the CPUs used and new are not doing so good, people are going crazy about anything Ryzen here and it will be a long time before it cools off. 6th and 7th gen are outright terrible in price here all the time so I wont even think of it lol
@@andystech101 Easiest fix for that, just need some luck: Mac Pro 2009-2010. Runs Windows 10 fine, 11 with tweaks. They've been coming down, and unlike modern Apples they are very, very tweakable. Also, getting very cheap, if you look around... Also a Linux beast, but I'm running different CRTs with mine, so it's a no to that... LOL... it takes too long to work that shit out.
I'm give my niece and nephew mine and gf's old gaming PCs. They were running i5s from the 1150 era. Upgraded to the Xeon 1246s. Both systems saw massive performance increases. Also redid all the thermal pads and paste on GPUs.
Nice to hear old systems being given a new lease of life and yes compared to the quad i5’s these cheap Xeons are on a different level! Not amazing but for the money I have no complaints 🙏🏼
Was searching for the i7 4770 and Haswell e3 Xeons to see what the stock cooler was and found this video. Good to see that i7 4770 equivalent Xeon performing well, but as for the bottleneck it wasn't just the processor, it also involved the RX 6600XT running at PCI-E 3.0 instead of PCI-E 4.0. I'm considering getting a Xeon to upgrade my i3 4170 PC and the E3 1240v3 is the cheapest among the i7 equivalent Haswell chips at about 38 USD. Checked the cpu support list for my H81 board and it should work, but cooling the Xeon would be a problem as I only have the stock heatsink for the i3 which is the all aluminum one and I'll need to factor the cost of a better heatsink that would fit in my case.
Glad you found the channel and thanks for the comment. Yes it was only a 6600 non XT but it’s doesn’t seem to fussy about gen4 but it is a factor. At least it’s got full pci-e lanes unlike it’s younger brothers 😅 You will need a better heatsink for the 1240 but it will be a straight swap for your mobo. Intel stock cooler works ok, Amazon do some really cheap good tower cooler for £10/£15 here in the UK so you should be able to find one else where.
This is perfect timing man! I just picked up an i7 4770 Alienware system, but haven't gotten to testing it yet. This definitely made me excited to tinker with it!
Another good video Andy. I'm still running a Xeon E3-1245 V3 in one of my main rigs and it takes everything I chuck at it. I also have an old X58 rig that I'm going to upgrade with a 6 core 12 thread Xeon X5670 for 8 quid! I'll be doing a video on it.
Yeah I’ve got an X5670, beast of a thing! Would still be using it if I could play the games I play with it. No AVX2 😭 got it clocked at 4.5GHz 💪🏼 cheers for the comment.
Through odd circumstances I recently ended up with an E3 1271 in my old LGA1150 system, replacing my old i5 4690K. 100 more Mhz and four more threads. Not bad for $30.
I got a 6600xt xfx for ~240 pounds or $275 dollars on ebay. It took a few days of bidding. I had some power issues until I plugged it into it's own outlet. Nice card. I think I am going with the i7 3770k from a i5 3470. Thanks for the budget reviews. Much love!
Nice deal! I really like the XFX version of the card as well. The 3770k is still a good little chip, you can V2 version’s of the XEONs which will work with your platform, there about half the price as well. Thanks for the comment appreciate it 🙏🏼
I built a Chinese X79 platform gaming rig running an xeon e5 1650 v2, 16 gig of 1600 ram and a RX 6600 XT GPU. Runs great, I just figure once it gets to out dated I'll throw in another motherboard and cpu... Job done 👍
Ace 🤩 yeah people get so obsessed with the latest and greatest but to be honest not everyone has £££ to go out and buy that. 95% of people I meet are on a budget and these old Xeons fit the bill perfectly. Cheers for the moment mate 🙏🏼

I have almost the same specs! Xeon e3 1231 v3 + RX 6600m both straight out of Aliexpress, decent upgrades from my original i5 4570+gtx 770 I used to have. Works great for most games but it struggles a bit in keeping 60fps all the time in Battlefield despite the 6600m being capable of more than double the fps
Nice to see someone rocking the 6600M not got my hands on one yet, battle field does like it’s cores and the near future is looking more 6core 12thread by the day 😅 cheers for the comment and nice to hear from you 🙏🏼
I had the Xeon in my previous build paired with the 270x->1070. Bought it brand new in August 2014 for 225€ - 5€ more than the 4690k. Now using it in my server build.
Hi Mahone definitely a good investment there over the 4690k. Going for the extra threads was a wise move and get that your still enjoying use out of the chip. Im still gaming with mine and have no complaints 🙏🏼
Great video Andy! That's a fantastic CPU for the money, if I end up getting an LGA 1150 platform I'm definitely grabbing one! It's a shame that Intel locked the multiplier on these Xeons as I bet they are capable of even more when overclocked.
Great vid. Those XEONs are practically exactly the same as their i7 counterparts but without the high price for the best chips on ddr3 platforms. Do you ever find problems selling XEON PCs with people wary of the XEON processor ?
I sell them as i7 4770 ( Xeon ) I’ve never had a problem with a customer about it. There just better binned i7’s technically, Ohw and ECC ram will run with them another bonus 🤩
Yes no question personally if you’ve got the funds and a dedicated gpu, it’s a great little upgrade for the Haswell platform for both gaming and production 🙏🏼
Plug and play buddy! Never found a 4th gem board that doesn’t support them, some board with a really early bios may need an update but 95% of the time you can just slap one in there 🤩
The E5 2xxx V3 chips are insanely cheap these days and are a much better value overall than the 1xxx chips. I'm running an E5-2698v3 16 core right now with all-core turbo unlocking done at the bios level and some undervolting and my CPU-Z benchmark score basically matches an i9 10850k by 100 points on both multi-core and single-core benchmark. That chip cost me about $70cdn on aliexpress. The 18 core 2696v3 should be about that much too. My main workloads are video/photo editing and audio production and 95% of the time that chip barely notices i'm doing anything.
Awesome stuff! Yes X99 is a beast of a platform, I’m running a boardwell V4 14core Xeon in my P510 main rig at the moment. I get you completely but the general public get a little scared with x99/x79 haha
I like this video, but I think your cadence should be slightly faster, maybe 10% faster. Though I have adhd so it could be that my attention span is too short for your sentences 💀 Cheers!
Haha cheers I have pondered this, I’ve dyslexia so It’s hard to read stuff off at speed and make it actually sound like something a human can understand! Though practice makes perfect I’ll get there 🤣, cheers for the comment and feedback much appreciated 🙏🏼
This chip? There would be a big void filled with misery 🤣 nearest new chip would be the Ryzen 4100 and that still out performs the 1230v3 same with the 10100f. Chalk and cheese
Nah these board work completely fine with these CPU’s just like the A320 board’s can use a Ryzen 5 and 7 series. Good cooling on the cpu and decent airflow around the case I’ve never had one fail on a mobo. All pre built’s use the H81 chipset, Dell, Hp, Lenovo and they have shocking cooling, work for decades 🙏🏼
The first time I looked at the VRM I only saw two phases and then I realized that it was that the other two were hidden behind the base of the heatsink, look again and you will see them 😅
i have the same CPU paired with GTX 1080TI. Its meh in content creation in windows 10. When i had windows 7, this cpu was fast! now with win 10 sux. I have lag in using all kinds of software... im so sad..
Ahh no way! There still brilliant chips but they are starting to show there age against modern 6/8 core cpus! Personal for budget gaming rigs I can’t fault them but for content creation I’m no the fence I’ll take your word 🙏🏼
Fortnite has this stupid thing with 6000 series where it has to download textures. I had an i5 11400f with 6700xt getting 30fps. After about 20mins in lobby it’s done and I got 250+fps
The Focus G lives on... That CPU still rockin' it too! Doing alright there with modern games. Awesome video, cheers bud
