do you think a RX560 8gb will work with this?

is it possible to use other brands than this HP as long as they have i5- 8.gen and got min 16GB Ram? In Germany there are much cheaper options. Many of them are SFF models but the RTX 3050 is quite small so it could fit inside at least for some of them. Most HP290 with your specs are selled in GB with a shipping of 30€ :D

what about overclock headroom

Was thinking of buying an Dell optiplex 3060 with an i7 8700 16gb of ram and 256ssd for my partner and then slot in an rtx 3050 like you. Do you think the original PSU can handle the power draw? I know 3050 recommend at least 300 watt for psu and this dell machine have 280 something.

Nice work Andy! Good to see what can be put together for such a low price. I do agree with you that spending money on a really nice case can sell the low end builds really quickly, I really like the ionz cases these days so you might want to take a look at some of them. I usually buy them around £40-45 in my cheap flip builds around £250-£300 and they seem to go down well with my customers.

Older low/mid end cards here in Norway are at an all time low at the moment, I picked up an identical GTX 970 as the one you have for only 20 euros, and there are still more on the used market around the same price. And it just about fits inside my Alienware X51 r2:)

You can overcome numa problems with a dual cpu setup by adjusting cpu affinity, but as i assume you're after a budget build just buy a single cpu mb that's cheaper :D

Nice one, got a nice bit of money in the kitty, time to make a second account & send out those low ball offers 😂 in my areas it's been easier to sell 200-300 with ease, 400+500 just takes long and the profit ratio isn't that great as lower end ones and the risk is higher if component is not working properly.

Still use this gpu with a 4790, 16 GB of RAM. I don’t play new AAA games. For indie games and jrpgs, including Visions of Mana, it is phenomenal!

This was my first gaming gpu, I have the Strix edition. Once I bought the 3070th, I gave my 970 to my friend which is still using it.

Insane card! Gave me most of hours any card to this day. Just year ago i upgraded to 1080ti 11gb and actually it performs same as 970 2-4 years ago, i wonder what happened to all our games....

I once bought a M4000 and used the bios editor for Maxwell and a GTX 660 cooler to turn it into a 8GB version of the 970, a friend still rocks that till this day.

Great job, been a Xeon fan for years now for building Gaming PC. I have 2 Lenovo ThinkStation P500 and P510 (got them for $100 each) running a Xeon E5-2697 v3 and a Xeon E5-2697A V4, both with 32GB Ram. Added a GTX1660Ti 6GB and a RTX3060 8GB and they are awesome for gaming.

Actually you can 'underwolt' it. Just slide power limit slider on Afterburner all the way left. My Zotac GTX 970 in my Win7 machine can easily go over 165 watts and gets pretty hot (76C) but with power limit reduced it draws around 135 watts and is way cooler (68C). Loses just 2-4 frames as overclock is stable even with reduced power.

I used this card on 1440p and i got serious stutter issues with bf4. But full hd was perfect. My son used this until recently with no issues. The slow ram issue was a bad mistake by team green though.

Dropping to 900p or 720p you can get wee bit more out of these older cards

Still rocking the MSI 970 card and its doing "ok", have it in an itx case so not sure what card to swap it with, maybe the "new 4050 6 gb", but not sure thats a value upgrade, never should have bought such a small pc to begin with, hard fitting anything in it.

You are wrong about AMD's support for old cards. The RX570 and 580 got their latest driver update October '24. I have them both. The 970 is roughly equal to the 570, though you can get the 8gb versions of the 570. The 580 is further ahead. The main advantage of the 970 is relatively low power draw.

It all comes down to price. If you can snag this for £30-40 and throw it in a Dell Optiplex for example, it's well worth. Or, spend £20-30 more and get a 1660 Super or 1070, maybe even a 5700 XT if you're lucky

Still one of the best series of cards. I have a friend that doesn budget epsorts builds for people locally, he uses this card and the 8gb RX580. I have a windforce one in my GPU fleet right now. The MSI version was the best one I have owned over the years.

I got a 970 right when the 20 series launched for $150 CAD, it played every single game i wanted to run and i was very pleased with the efficiency compared to my last card (R9 390), yeah i lost out on VRAM but i didnt mind, actually downgraded to a 1650M which im still on, but finally thinking of an upgrade now. My old 970 is still living in my homies computer, and probably will for another year or 2.

I'm not sure why everyones saying that the RX 480 / 580 has no more driver updates. They just got an update last month.

This was a 1st card which got me into 60fps master race. LOL. I remember buying it for Witcher 3, which my previous AMD card had trouble running at low settings 20fps

Had one for free from my brother. Used it for a half year, then sold it for more than my bro bought it when it was new. 😂 I had a 2400g that time, so i just played with the Vega, i don't play games anyway, only dota2 and Football Manager. Vega was enough for that. Since that I bought a dirt cheap rx580, which is an extreme overkill for me

I have an MSI version of this card and got it cheap to flip in a budget gamer. I knew nothing about PC building, or gaming until a few years ago and have learned much from channels like this one so I appreciate these uploads and information. I have learned that although one can score these older cards cheap, they lose value quickly especially when driver support is dropped. I also have some AMD models like the RX 570, 480 that are still seemingly supported at the moment with 24.9.1 driver. I did make the mistake of acquiring an R9 390, 290X in pristine OE box condition but they use the legacy driver 22.6.1 and would only appeal to a collector perhaps. I used this card for yearssss it was fantastic until the games I wanted to play needed the vram then in 2022 I upgraded to the Rx 6700 xt upgrade blew me away

I sold my GTX 970...2 years ago IIRC. For about 70 euros. Wish I could still use it lol. Now I am forced to use a GTX 860M. But bless Nvidia, they still support even my GPU with drivers. Hear me AMD/Intel? Good video.
