Whenever these conversations about England strikers come up, Michael Owen never gets mentioned. If, he hadn’t had his injuries he’d have registered well over 50 goals. People have short memories.
Also, when they talk about past England performances at tournaments, 1998 World Cup never gets mentioned. We played just as well in that game against Argentina when Becks was sent off and Owen scored that wonder goal than we did against Holland in Euro 96, we just didn’t get the result.
That's an odd arguement though. Could say the same thing about Jamie Vardy, if and buts.

England will never win anything with Mason Mount constantly starting. He offers absolutely nothing going forwrd. He's far too lightweight to make any sort of impact up top.
Agree with you entirely...Mount's an honest pro but limited as an attacking threat, but unfortunately he's another one of Gareth's favourites. Bowen or Bellingham moved further forward would be a better option.

The system is different at city which suits Foden more, going forward thou Foden should play more.
Bowen is better than Saka. Which automatically means Saka is ahead of him in the pecking order. It's not hard to see why Southgate has won nothing.

I think England would do well if they could impose themselves on strong opponents. They largely win with counter attacks and they rarely hold it and create

Set up for too defensive for the players on offer. England could batter teams if they started games on the front foot with lots of high press and tempo. Grelish,Saka,Kane and sterling in a front line is very scary to come up against if you know they’ll be constantly coming at you for 90 minutes
England should be playing free flowing football given the talent they have on offer

I’d be 3 at the back with 1 holding midfielder to protect them 2 creatIve midfielders and 4 very attacking minded players in a loose diamond you could dominate the midfield be quick in transition as well as protect your back line when not in possession too.

Either Grealish or James Madison should be starting for England, and they both should be in the squad. But Southgate prefers less talented players like Mount and Saka who work harder, and he likes their personalities more than maverick players. Southgate has his favourites and plays them no matter what. How Harry Maguire is in the squad nevermind starting is baffling. Southgate is holding England back. England are heading for a poor world cup, Southgate had ridden his luck so far with lucky draws.

You can certainly see why mount snd Saka start as their seasons have been levels above grealish but equally in an England shirt Grealish is the definite better player.
Why? Neither have been pulling up trees this season. Neither have demonstrated that they can come on and change a game at international level level. Why carry players who may at some point do something when you could have consistent players that put in effort at all times.

i dont think its necessarily a problem of playing too defensive. jose and conte play defensive but they know how to make their team win. southgate wants to play like jose or conte but has no idea what he is doing. looked more like a spurs game under nuno. yesterday when grealish and bowen changed the game it had nothing to do with tactics. it was them just doing what they know how to do. nothing to do with southgate.

Thay had two CH's with a combined age of 780 and never turned them around once because we were so negative. Southgate killed English football ! It was quite dead between 2010 -2016 and what he did was actually to kill it even more. Before these periods England got eliminated in quarter final of major tournaments but played beautiful football with Shearer and co and before that Lineker and Co. Now he keeps attacking players on the bench until 70th minute and then bring them in to equalize at their best. And guess what still don’t win ! Semifinal and a final no trophy is coming home EVER!
