I think it was a lovely performance, charming voice, and the instrumental accompaniment was especially beautiful! For those criticizing her accent, I would at least give credit for the effort instead of just plain shaming her for her pronounciation. Sure, there is room for improvement, generally speaking, but singing in a language that's not your native is challenging both musically and linguistically, saying this from personal experience.
It’s an experience listening to this song back to back with Sinead O’Connor’s rendition… and the first version of a song always sticks. But it seems churlish to grumble about the accent of a singer who is singing about the experience of immigration.
For anyone who doesn't understand the meaning of this song, it tells the story of an Irish immigrant who came to the United States in the midst of the American Civil War expecting a better life, but was forced into the Union Army to fight the Confederacy. The Irish Brigade m.ua-cam.com/video/ijAwhSwAoWM/v-deo.html Irish fought on both sides, North and South, many would be killing eachother on the battlefields of Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee. One of which was at Fredericksburg, a frontal assault on a Confederate position proved deadly as many fell. One of which both Irish brigades met eachother and were forced to fire on their own countrymen, as the United States had to also fire on their own countrymen. A civil war within a Civil war, hence why they mention the U.S Civil war as a fight between Brothers vs Brothers..
If you want to get technical and count the ulster Northern Irish immigrants and the southern Irish republican immigrants fighting each other in the American Civil War on behest of the csa and union then it was a Civil War inside a Civil War inside a Civil war.
The movie Gods and Generals goes pretty hard on the Lost Cause stuff but the battle scenes are great, especially Fredericksburg. Along the infamous Sunken Road at the foot of Marye's Heights, Union Irish Brigade troops clashed with a regiment of mostly Irish Confederate troops under the command of Brig. Gen. Cobb(who was killed in the battle.) The Confederate troops weren't part of an official Irish unit though. The Union troops who assaulted the fortified Confederate position along the Sunken Road were absolutely slaughtered as Union General Burnside ordered seven different waves of troops to attack the Sunken Road. It cost the Union 8,000 men. The Irish Brigade lost almost 600 of its 1600 men at Fredericksburg alone.
Meh, ... I wonder why ther are 2 thumbs down for such song like this. This song is just like a song from heaven ... just sit back and enjoy the song ...
Right?! I was wondering that about one of my own videos today. I don't generally give my videos thumbs up (or down...) but must've clicked by accident, because the thumbs down was my own rating! Hopefully that's the case for this video too--that it was an accident--because this is golden... they do lovely work!
Lovely job... so enjoyed this! I don't think I've heard you guys before, but am definitely looking forward to hearing more from you. Just subscribed to your channel, too!
Filake 808 Its an actual song from the American Civil War from people suggesting people shouldn't move to the US. 1860s Americans could have been offended I don't know, but now its history. We shouldn't be offended by history like that.
If you don't know the history behind it...following a number of issues in Ireland, many decided to emigrate to the newly founded US. Arriving on the East coast ports and harbours a lot of the Irish men were immediately enlisted into both Militaries fighting the American Civil War. I believe most were enlisted in to Lincoln's Yankee side. This song relates to that history and the fact that those enlisted were fighting a war they neither understood, nor wished to be a part of. I only recently learned however, that the same happened to many German men but I'm not familiar with the history behind why so many German people were available to enlist in the US and haven't read about it yet. Hope this helps.
@@hansforsberg1871 Why would she want to do that? The song is perfectly performed. It's about the music and the situation of the Irish back then. Both perfectly delivered. Your complaint is irrelevant. You fail to deliver your version of the song. A slight accent doesn't diminish the quality of the song. But not being able to sing or play an instrument completely does so. Your comment is both arrogant and immature.
Does she even have a clue what she is singing like I don’t care how you sing girl if you got no clue what your saying it really isn’t all that great I hope they taught her what she is saying
Well, where's your version? Do grow up, learn a thing or two about behaviour, and then you may come back. Then read your own comment, blush, and apologize to the singer who is actually very good.
Beautiful song but nuts to the Irish. They didn't fight very well, were used as cannon fodder and the majority of them joined of their own free will for 3 meals a day and a few dollars. The Union only initiated the draft in late 1863. Oliver Cromwell knew how to deal with the Irish.
Payton Scott half the words are unintelligible, it’s like you might as well make your own words up. Gotta put the truth where it’s due, use native language instead of butchering someone else’s
You clearly show that you don't speak ANY foreign language. You probably never even tried. Which says a lot about your education. Also, your mommy apparently failed to give you a proper spanking or slap you on the cheek for being rude to other people. If you can't understand the singer then you need to wash your ears. Your comment is arrogant and immature.
so what shes got a slight accent!!! this is just BEAUTIFULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The battle of Fredericksburg
This is just beautiful, and historically accurate too.
Put tears in my eyes. Thank you for sharing your gifts.
Cada vez que la escucho me gusta más. Hermosa canción, triste historia y genial y colorida interpretación. Jamón de Jabugo for me too!

GREAT!
Superb performance and Sinead O’Connor did the same thing also. Irish singers and music are excellent.👍
This one is French... can't you hear the accent? 😂
Beautiful performance!
The accent only makes better storytelling, because it's the song of an immigrant. Love it
Muy bonito :)
La cantante es una ARTISTAZA.
El montaje es espectacular, muy acorde a los protagonistas, enhorabuena
Beautifully done
¡Aúpa la Eclectic Celtic Band! ¡Preciosas canciones!
The best singing rendition of this song I have heard
Mary Black is best.

@@MommaRed1862 lol at Lincoln’s imperial conquest, stonewall
que triste la situación para los emigrantes en todos los tiempos :(
Sad because now more than ever we need more hard fighting Irish families and men. God save Ireland 🇮🇪 God save America and those Irish now American.
fui
Ugh yt this is not what i wanted but thx anyway
The accent is charming, and the instrumental accompanying is beautiful. Nevertheless, IMO this performance does no justice to the sorrowful text.
I'm Nigerian and I love this song. She didn't do justice to it as she did not put her soul into it.
Is this Spanish or Hungarian
Derreck Jones clearly an Irish song, but the group is not Irish almost sound Hungarian
Spanish.
Hey I got a question... am I suppose to take this song as an insult? #GodBlessAmerica

Alex Wells yea it helped... I love Irish people and respect their culture. Thank you.
It is an old irish anti-war song. If this offends you, then maybe you should feel insulted #PinkUnicornBlessWorld
If you had to ask this, then you should read a book. Or two.... Or as many as you can get a grip on!
You probably voted for trump ...
No,no...

Wtf is this?
Learn the Irish accent! Is it that hard?
