Knight Rider had several clones including Street Hawk (which featured a Motorcycle instead of a car), Airwolf and Blue Thunder (which both featured a helicopter), and Viper.
I loved the Simpsons take on this concept, where the vehicle was a boat, and every episode of the fictitious show always had a convenient waterway, (canal, river, etc.), in which the vehicle could pursue the baddies.
Knightmare (80s/90s kids tv) Awesome graphics for it's time. Manta, Neverwhere, Ultraviolet, Babylon 5. I'll no doubt think of more but thanks for including The Highwayman 🙂
Battlestar Galactica was a parody of the Mormon church ( Larson was a member) It's quite a religious undertones . Mind you Lorne Greene was brilliantly wooden .
I came to mention The Last Train. Fantastic show that was at one time up on youtube in it's entirety. I think at least some of the eps have gone AWOL now though. And yeah Hyperdrive is awesome. Binged the whole thing on DVD as recently as last week. Kevin Eldon is very good in it. As are the others. But Kevin steals the scenes I reckon.
I'm really loving this series. Can you do (I have a list): The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Ulysses 31, Crime Traveller, Galaxy High School, Monkey (if that counts as sci-fi), The Strangerers, Street Hawk, Bernard's Watch, Space Cadets, the C4 panel show about Sci-Fi with Greg Proops, Bill Bailey and Craig Charles. I'm not sure that this count but it could at least be an honourable mention.
Dark Angel: which I never got around to watching at the time and did wish I had. Ran for two years early in the 2000's. Created by James Cameron. Breakout role for Jessica Alba. One of a group of genetically enhanced people who escaped from a lab as kids. She now works as a messenger in a dystopian setting.
While I haven't seen it in years, I remember liking Dark Angel at the time. It was cancelled when there was lower viewing numbers and Fox had ordered Firefly and didn't want to pay for two shows so dropped Dark Angel. The 2000s for me was a time when I'd start to find new sci-fi and similar shows that I really liked, only for them to get cancelled before a conclusion like Dark Angel as well as Odyssey 5, Jake 2.0, Star Trek: Enterprise (Especially given the planned ideas for what might have been in the 5th season), Tru Calling, The 4400, Stargate Universe, Terra Nova and The Librarians (although how the last episode of The Librarians concluded was perfect for an ending I think)
Loved "Dark Skies" !! On at the same sort of time as "Now and again" which had a great theme tune, " Gimme a sign" !! I remember watching an episode of "Tarrent on TV" I think, where he showed programs from around the world, on it he had a sci fi program from the states centered around a man in an electrified suit of lights a bit like " Electro" in " Runningman". I expect a crime fighter of some sort, no real idea what it was, would love to know if anyone remembers it, a bit of a long shot I know but its bugged me for years !!! Love these videos !!
Ultraman is awesome. Still going today. The new series, Ultraman Blazar, started this past weekend. It's on UA-cam as well, officially, with a choice of dub or subtitles. Also @ 2:10 - yes that is Godzilla. "Jirass" was made from two old Godzilla suits (The studio that makes Ultraman was founded by the guy responsible for the special effects in the classic Godzilla films of the 50s and 60s). Even better is that the man inside that suit is the same guy who played Godzilla at the time.
@@andrewtaylor940 of course. That was Toho's attempt at making a superhero show like Ultraman There's also the ChouSeiShin series, which is Toho's take on a Super Sentai/Power Rangers style of show. Been meaning to check out both for years.
Knight Rider is one of my favourites. A few more I can think of: Animorphs, Earth: Final Conflict , The Tribe (1999 Series), Big Bad Beetleborgs, Astro Boy, TimeCop TV series and Legend (Sci-fi Western with one series in 1995. Starred Richard Dean Anderson and John De Lancie),
Lexx a very silly Sci fi show about a giant space bug and an undead assassin that looked like he should be in the cure. I think it was Canadian but I saw it on channel 5
The open sequence of the 6 Million Dollar Man is the crash of a NASA manned lifting body the M2-F2 of 10th May 1967. The pilot, Bruce Peterson, survived the crash but later lost an eye due to infection during his recovery.
Never seen Ultraman which looks an absolute hoot, particularly as from a distance it looks like he's sporting a pair of orange shorts 😊 Always nice to hear the beautiful voice of Frances Matthews as Captain Scarlet as well. Thanks for uploading!
Actually, there are SEVERAL Ultraman series, starting with the one mentioned, and more recently an anime in 2019 involving Shin Hyata's son Shinjiro. Apparently when Shin merged with the original Ultraman, their DNA merged and was passed on to Shinjiro.
Saw an episode of Knight Rider the other week. Holds up quite well. Enjoyed it then, and, same now. Was there a program called Auto Man at some point? 80s somewhere i think.
I have a suggestion: Gargoyles. I don't know if you got it in England, and it's really more of a fantasy show, but it's about some of the last surviving living gargoyles, ancient creatures who turn to stone in the day and come alive at night to protect humanity from different types of enemies, including one of their own
Robotech (1985) Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995) "Dark Skies' (had it been allowed to continue) would've had a new decade for each season, ending in the 1980s were Ronald Regan and George H W Bush would both be "hive."
Nitpicking I know, but SPECTRUM was commanded by Colonel White of course, not Captain Scarlet. Quite enjoyed New Captain Scralet as well. Ultraman - like other tokusatsu franchises - is still going strong today - new series out this year in fact. I don't know if it counts, but I absolutley loved Galaxy Rangers back in the day... theme song was a real banger too. Looking back on it, now, some of the themes in that were not really for kids but you could get away with things way easier back then. And if you haven't already covered them, Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future was a guilty pleasure of mine and of course the G1 Transformers cartoon was - is - the GOAT. Gotta keep sniffing the member berries :)
Galaxy Rangers theme song = yet another amazing theme by Shuki Levy. Look him up. It will blow your mind just how many of your beloved childhood TV themes he wrote. He’s one of the owners of Power Rangers. MASK, Pole Position, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, HeMan, X-Men, etc
Galactica 1980...possibly the worst sequel ever? Horrendous! Such a pity because the original was so good. Went to see the movie in 1978 for my 7th birthday.
Captain Scarlet in my book Andersons second best series, Thunderbirds, arguably the best (dont talk about The Secret Service). the original Battlestar Galactica i watched routinely, good effects and sets but storylines i found weak. Watched 6 Million Dollar Man and Knight Rider. Saw some of Survivors, but didnt sink in, couldnt have been that entgralled. But Good grief what on Earth was that Japanese thing! I recall a US show about investigators trying to expose government UFO coverups, it woukd have been in the 90s.
I don't remember The Changes but it would have been worth it just for the spectacle of a bunch of grannies smashing up innocent bicycles in the street.
Can I please suggest some TV shows The Fantastic Journey, Project UFO,Quatermass, Kolchak The night stalker,Planet of the apes, Invasion Earth The war of the world's,Karaoke/Cold Lazarus.
I watched Battlestar Galactica almost religiously when first broadcast. I thought it was a great series. The follow-up Galactica 1980, not so much. The premise was good, in that they eventually managed to find the 13th Human colony on Earth, but it soon turned into nothing more than another generic goodies verses baddies, run-of-the-mill US series with mediocre special effects and poor storylines. The Six Million Dollar man was probably one of the first series I remember watching over any period of time. It was _the_ series to watch, back in the mid 70's. The idea of having superhuman strength and running in slow motion whilst going, 'nan, nan, nan, nan, nah...' was the theme of many a schoolyard playtime. Lexx and Farscape are a couple of late 90's-early 2000's sci-fi type shows worth mentioning. I assume you must have done manimal, by now? Truly awful mid 80's show that didn't last very long at all.
Galactica 1980 - You forgot to mention that this show was terrible. It had exactly one good episode, and that was the one where Dirk Benedict returned. And even that one had lower production values than the original because unlike the original series, it was blatantly obvious that the Cylon costumes were mostly made of black spandex. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons - I never saw this (it was never on TV while I was growing up), but I know it's another Gerry Anderson show. The Highwayman - This was very short-lived with only 10 episodes. It starred Sam J. Jones from the 80s Flash Gordon movie and Jane Badler from V.
Eric close should've been bigger than he was. You should add Now and Again, he was in that and Denis Haysbert as a bit of a bastard tbf. Also, Survivors is still going in audio form and Gabrielle Drake is still on it.
Space Precinct, loved that show back in the 90s!
Even though most people hated Galactica 1980, I loved those motorcycles..
Shows like Ultraman and Captain Scarlet were syndicated on US television in the 70s. I remember watching them after school.
Knight Rider had several clones including Street Hawk (which featured a Motorcycle instead of a car), Airwolf and Blue Thunder (which both featured a helicopter), and Viper.
However Blue Thunder was a movie long before Knight Rider.
@@MrShowbiz48 The movie came out in 1983. Knight Rider premiered in 1982
how are they clones??????? all different vehicles, only 1 talks and can control itself....... what a dumb comment...

Ultraviolet was awesome, I have the box set
Didn’t they do a film about Ultraviolet too?
