@MortdogTFT please consider adding more comp augments in set 10 it gets stale when u just get general augments every game. Loving 'That's Jazz' augment
I really wish more teams would listen to fresh blood like this, I hope that new guy goes places and keeps making good decisions. Don't get me wrong some newbies have a crackpipe shoved so far up their ass you can see the smoke coming out of their ears but it's more common for old veterans to dismiss any new idea from a newbie as bad. Amazing to see a veteran like Mort actually listen and consider it.
"crackpipe shoved so far up their ass you can see the smoke coming out of their ears" -- man this is hilarius, quote of the day. The interns i see being hired in my team are like that often times
Honestly, Kudos to Mort for even listening and putting in the time to try his suggestion out. Not a lot of people in higher management would even consider it and see it as an insult. God! I love TFT Devs so much!
I'm glad they cultivated a workplace where the new designers can feel heard. This example goes so far for developing a culture where new ideas are welcomed, and innovation is a top priority.
This does tend to happen when the lead designer actually plays the game and understands it. Compare that to League designers who don't ever touch the game, and the difference is night and day.
I really like that you have more options with headliner every shop and one every four shops while you already have one. So much better than randomly getting one every so often
Honestly even with seeing a new headliner every 4, it's still one of the most frustrating parts of RNG in the game for me. I can play around unit luck, item luck, etc. but if I just never get a good headliner I'm kind of SoL.
This dev made the entire set more flexible balanced and just easier and more fun to play. Probably saved from a lot of issues because of it as well, like certain builds seeing little play and thus not having accurate data to balance correctly. The game actually feels balanced by gold value right now. 3 cost 3 stars at the top with full legendaries with 2 and 1 cost rerolls being around the same strength as 4 cost builds if highrolled. Thank you mort and the dev team for a great set.
Honestly I'm more concerned with the part where it seemed like many people were on board with just bringing back Chosen the way it worked in set 4. It was such a problematic mechanic that caused so many frustrations over the course of set 4 that it blows my mind that they thought it would be fine to just bring it back as is.
When I heard that Set 10 would bring back the Chosen mechanic, I was outright ready to skip the whole set. I genuinely hated that mechanic to where I skipped the entirety of Set 4 over it. But when they said the mechanic was improved upon to be less chancey and more skillful, I thought "Okay, I'll try it out and give it another shot." And now, while I am still not the biggest fan of the headliner mechanic, I still think it is in fact heavily improved upon and was now actually playable for me.
Word. Pretty much skipped set 4 cause pivoting felt really rng dependent and that killed the fun for me. I still don’t enjoy the +1 trait mechanic but apart from that it’s definetely better now.
This is why in any development environment it’s super important to not belittle people for their ideas regardless of seniority. If someone really believes in their idea, hearing them out and walking through the thought process so everyone can reach a reflected conclusion is the only way to go about it if you care about your product
Yeah honestly, I started 8.5 so this is my first ever "chosen". I heard a lot of bad things about em before but this one has been insanely great so yea props to that designer, good ass idea. Don't be afraid to grow and be challenged of old thoughts and ideas. this shit is amazing
It's really good as the game progress to be presented with options to rotate into a different comp depending on the headliners. And it feels like it's very skillful to recognize when you should grab a headliner 4cost or 5cost and adapt your entire team around it. and when you should NOT fall for the bait.
Thank god for that guy. I hated the chosen mechanic because I would always get an early game chosen and try to stick with it, because I was too afraid of selling it to roll down for another one and not hitting anything. I wound up just forcing Jinx reroll comps every single game, and I didn't enjoy playing that set at all despite enjoying the aesthetics. This set, however, the ability to just see the Headliners in shop, means I can stick with my early game headliner until I find something worth pivoting to and that's not only really fun, it teaches me how to be a better player because it forces me to think about transitioning and pivoting, too things i've always been bad at and got around by one tricking specific comps before.
Really great input! It adds a ton load of flexibility, skill based plays and better decision making. Pivoting to a similar but stronger headliner is now possible. It saved me from having a Dazzler Nami Headliner to a Dazzler TF Headliner 3 star at 10 HP. The rolldown was hectic but since a lot of players already rolled down for their 4 stars, I hit mine. haha.
Good on the team and good on mort for listening to the person and good on that dev for sticking their ground, but it shows a pretty glaring lapse in everyone else for thinking they could just reship set four with its known faults like that
I loved the chosen mechanic before but the change immediately stuck out as a great one. I’d almost forgotten that it was random when you didn’t have one too; that change + the every four rolls change are both really positively impactful to the overall good feeling of the mechanic. The one costs need to be tuned wayy down though, reroll chosen comps were aids
set 10 was great but you should have an toggle that not show more headliner on shop cause sometime i want to hit 3 stars with some unit but the headliner keep showing up make me have less chance to hit that
Mort, so glad you haven't lost touch with your objective side and heard him. It actually is better now, Chosen mechanic wasn't bad during set 4 but now it requires more skill.
They definitely need to make it where buying a headliner turns the same champion you already own into the headliner too. It's annoying to be forced to sell a 2-star copy of something that has your items on it just to put it on the same unit.
Still not a great meachanic imo. I donz understand why the headliner has to be 2starred. I think adding a headliner with double traits is great, but making them 2 starred just makes some highrolls higher and some lowrolls lower, and it introduced the chapionpoolsize problems we experienced
It’s a very nice change, and I agree it makes things more skillful. Now I have to take into account when to buy, when to hold, when to sell and high roll for the higher cost headliner/chosen. Thank you for this change
It's honestly sad to see that they didn't want to try and make it more new player friendly. It makes a lot of sense for returning players as well, so idk what the thought process was
assuming that the rule to always have a headliner in shop if you didn't already have one was in place (it may not have been!), I can see the thought process of having the "pivot" headliner be a wasted shop slot, or too easy to fall for bait, etc. essentially they weren't arguing over "we want it to be more or less new player friendly", they were deciding over which solution was actually the simpler or more new player friendly option
It’s still the worst but ok :D, because some “headliners” are more poweful than others. For example Nami Headliner is shit af giving only 15 AP but Yasuo Headliner is op af giving 200 HP and 15% Omnivamp. Another example: Ahri Headliner is so bad giving only 15 AP but Blitzcrank Headliner is so good because it improves its ult. Headliner system is good overall but it needs to be balanced asap. Everyone is playing the same headliners because they are OP af. Being able to see headliner in every 4 shop reroll even you have a headliner is a good idea, otherwise you’ll have to either stuck with that Headliner or risk it, sell it and find another one which is not very reliable. Also, where tf augment champions? I really need TF’s Pandora Boxes rn :d
Honestly it’s the only reason I’m playing the game now LOL hated how stupid it felt before I could never get into the game. Loving it now this season is dope
Honestly, pivoting gets easier as you get more familiar with the set. It really helps knowing what the units do, the traits and the items. The more comps you try out, the more you start understanding the synergies. Even if you commit to one comp the whole game, try to go for a different comp every game. That might help you.
Watch a guide to master a comp and all it's variant and pivot, then when you get bored of it learn a new one, and by the end of midset you'll be able to play anything and loose less time learning a new comp. I suggest you watch GM Blue as he's beginner friendly in his guides.
Love how the devs for TFT actually play the game while for the devs for the actual game (league of legends) all jerk off in office and argue about how one should type out "karthus has ult" so ridiculous
If that would have been the case i wouldnt be playing since i hated the fact that u had to sell your chosen to find a new one, so happy he thought of this :D
I agree it is a cool mehanic and it made set better, wish I could play it more, but in the small time I played I found a headliner that i liked for the early game, and then every 4 shops I get shop space wasted with a headliner I dont like for my team and I could get a 4 cost unit that fits my team,or a 2 star in that situation it is not that great. But keep it up guys you are amazing
considering chosen was the most hated mechanic in tft history, im glad they listened, because oh boy if they shipped chosen exactly how it was, a lot of people woulda been mad
hey something that work dosen t mean its good, and clearly every player said that the mecanics of "choosen" was so bad in set 4, so my question is how the hell did most of the dev think " yeah its good leave it like it was before " thanks to that dev to be really good at what he does because the set 10 would have been so bad if the mecanics was still the same
because chosen was a fan favorite mechanic and easily top 2 they have ever done despite the issues, top 1 if you removed "augments in set 6" because they became evergreen. Just bringing it back with minimal improvements would've been fine. Btw at the end of set 4 it was widely considered balanced after they nerfed the fuck out of chosen chances and bonuses
Blows my mind hearing that the Dev team liked Chosen the way it was. It took to much brain thinky for me the fear of losing my chosen unit and then not getting a new good one prevented me from really giving that set a try.
This dev saved many hairlines! Old Chosen mechanic was stinky. Felt like you had to commit or make a huge sometimes unnecessary risk to sell and pivot out of your chosen unit. I’m thankful I can grab an early headliner and not worry about missing out on other upgraded headliners.
Gonna be honest dude. I don’t like the current set. It got rid of legends which was one of my favorite things. I loved being able to go TF and only think about the actual comp and it allowed me to focus on pivoting instead of itemization. And I have to relearn everything. I get that tft has new sets and it’s supposed to be new but having to literally relearn everything from comps to champions to itemization is just a lot. I got to plat last set and I believe i could’ve gotten to diamond but in this set I’m getting beat by silver players because I have no idea what tf is happening and I work too many hours too many hours to dedicate to it. Unfortunately I think this is where my tft career ends..
I disagree on this one. I hate seeing headliners when I already have one on my board. Especially when it's a unit I'm looking for to upgrade to 2 or 3 star and now I can't take it because it's a headliner. I vastly prefer having to sell your headliner to look for a new one
It's worth noting that I also just don't like the chosen/headliner mechanic at all and I prefer the game entirely without it, so maybe I'm somehow biased here
Im probably in the minority among players but since i started tft with set 4, thats my favorite set and would have been fine with chosen brought back as is.
I dislike the headliner thing... It's so incredibly hard to match it up with a team... AND you need to get the right trait buffed, on the right champion, at the right time in the game whilst getting the right champions around it with the right items.... And pivoting is HARD AF... Because you need to RNG a headliner that suits your team. Or COMPLETELY sell you team and start from scratch... Yeah usually that's suicide... Especially later into the game... Too many variables... Too hard to build around...
hell yeah, for me chosen mechanic was bad, like to much rng, you could just not hit something that you build your board around, in late game, or need to switch whole strategy due to one champion just not show up in shop for half of a game. still there is issue that you dont hit something after hundreds of gold reroled but its still much better then before
set 10 would suck if that was the case as I was not a fan of the chosen mechanic. Pivots we're a pain in the ass and you felt LOCKED in to your build. This set has alot more flexibility, just needs a wee bit more balancing...(superfans 👀)
my first reaction to set 10 was that they finally hired a high iq designer. my first reaction to set 9 was that no one over there could even tie their own shoes.
If Riot really wants to save Set 10 they should've done it like in Set 9 Soul Brawl mode where the headliner status comes from a selector item. Sure it may seem easy but they can easily add a condition where it costs gold every time you select a new headliner.
headliners and entirity of set10 is dogshit everyone is playing 1/2 cost chosens and game ends around lvl8max you cant get to the fun part to make my sad miserable depresing and boring life happy at least for 10 sec
Okay, 2 months later, chosen mechanic is still bad, its not healthy for the game, its just pire fcking rng. Just had a game with wandering trainer having pentakill spat on it, openet with hedge fund, rolled 100 gold on lvl 8, hit nothing, went eif. Good shit. Hate hate hate chosen..coming from gm/chall player
Can confirm. Liv OP

@MortdogTFT please consider adding more comp augments in set 10 it gets stale when u just get general augments every game. Loving 'That's Jazz' augment

im glad that is the case, chosen was a really feels bad man when low rolled
@@its.zeeeelAdding more comp based augments actually makes it more stale, since they can't effectively pivot from one comp to another.
The new designer deserves a kiss.

people like this are gems. every crew or group of people always need someone like this, with a different point of view and not a yes man.
@@JanDarkyyits rare case scenario because seniors are too closeminded to even think about it.

Mort just casually showing why he's best boss
Kudos to the dev for not backing off at the first no, and kudos to the senior dev to sit down and consider the idea seriously.

If Riot really wants to save Set 10 they should've done it like in Set 9 Soul Brawl mode where the headliner status comes from a selector item. Sure it may seem easy but they can easily add a condition where it costs gold every time you select a new headliner.
Yeah, that designer must feel good about it ;p

Everytime choosen is in tft, i dont play the set. As simple as it is.
headliners and entirity of set10 is dogshit everyone is playing 1/2 cost chosens and game ends around lvl8max you cant get to the fun part to make my sad miserable depresing and boring life happy at least for 10 sec
Set 10 only good to music, set 9 so far better from portal, augment, and comps
Hated chosen back then hate it now ..
Every Game 3 Star 4 cost .
Literally worst Set in My opinion …

Okay, 2 months later, chosen mechanic is still bad, its not healthy for the game, its just pire fcking rng. Just had a game with wandering trainer having pentakill spat on it, openet with hedge fund, rolled 100 gold on lvl 8, hit nothing, went eif. Good shit. Hate hate hate chosen..coming from gm/chall player
set 9.5 was way better
