I ran in this and finished about 30th just behind Ray Maule from Coventry Godiva in a time of 30:25
That is incredible strength 💪 in depth,,,30:25 would win many,, MANY races today,,,. THE 80,s really was BOMBASTIC,,, especially in men and women middle distance running ,,,,a year later and Steve Jones was the world record holder for the MARATHON,!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@@simonedwards5564 No matter where you raced in the UK during the early 1980s it was always competitive. Gateshead, Salford, Birmingham, Leeds or London always had some ball tearing events.
There are some names there, Steve Jones a legend, Alastair Hutton, and Reitzy, another legend.
Wasn't Colin Reitz a hurdler/steeplechaser or similar .....he ran my clubs 5 mile race back in the late 90's and ran a then course record around 24 mins I think ( broken next year by Rob Denmark in 23 mins ) . I do remember the name in the entry sheet and thinking what a name to get at a minor club road race . Many though who don't know running or athletics would never remember him

Colin Reitz - World Championship 3000m Steeplechase Bronze in 1983. 5th in LA 1984.
